aww haha I had two cockatiels one of them died for some reason and one my mom gave it away to my cousin for some reason too :( im now trying to convince my parents to buy me one again.
Lol sounds like something my bird would do
I dont have a bird but i wish LOL
You’re a huge help, thank you so much. I had a budgie last summer, and he passed away. Like you said, don’t trust chain pet stores! They lied about my parakeets age and we lost him early. I’ve been doing tons of research, and again, you’ve been helping me so much. Cockatiels are beautiful birds and I’m working in getting one. Love you, again, thank you for all the help! I’ll tell y’all if I get one!
happy I could help!
Soda Pets you’re the best! Again, thank you so so so much! Saved me so much time! ❤️
I hope you love your bird if you get one
Amelia UvU Thank you!

It suits you✨

Some useful info in this! Cockatiels are so much more than just an easy pet and require so much consideration. Even made a vid on the topic myself due to how many end up abandoned or rescued.
Also loving the anime stuff in the background! I'm not as keen as I used to be (bit old now!) but still love watching it and listening to creative vocaloid tracks.
Yes
I have a cockatiel and I love him so much. I've done a lot of research before I got him but I'm constantly terrified of doing everything wrong
I love TØP as well
I have four budgies two are tame but I’m just here to tell you it takes A-LOT of frickin time to tame them for me about... one year and three months i know cockatiels are a different parrot but getting a hand-raised one would make a BIG difference.
I'm still struggling to tame my tiel and I've had her just over 1 year
Sarah Brodie I recommend just standing beside the bird and feeding her treats or honestly just watch RUclips beside it clicker training works great as well!.
@@little_birds3318 I can sometimes get her to take millet from me (as long as my budgies aren't out because they love to harass her), but she is a very jumpy bird. The slightest sound or movement freaks her out.
Budgies and Cockatail are every diffrent in that matter. Even a hand raised budgie takes a lot of effort and time while Cockatails are easier and way calmer etc.. Can't compare the both..
Yep I have 1 tamed budgie and the rest ain't because the one that is tamed is young compared to the other ones and let's me grab it full without trying to escape and goes on my shoulder and finger but the rest are older and don't let me even touch them
when i was like 11, my parents got me a cockatiel from a pet store. i had to fight them to the point where i was almost in tears, just to get him a bigger cage. it wasnt nearly big enough for him, but it was better than what they were considering. i figured i'd just let him roam free most of the time, but they didnt even let me do that (an hour or two every day was the max they allowed). they also refused to get pellets or anything except birdseed mix. they let me feed him like one tiny veggie a week. he also didnt have any toys. and he had those smooth plastic perches.
i didnt do the research i should have imo, but they also made it very hard for me to implement the things i did know. he died a couple months later bc a cat got into his cage.
i still feel guilty about treating him that way. i lowkey resent my parents for it too. they mentioned getting a dog later, and i talked them out of it. im gonna do my best to make sure they dont own any more pets until they're willing to give the animals what they need. and im going to do as much research as i can and im going to do my best to give any future animals i have the best life possible
(i want snakes when i grow up!! my dream snake is a black tailed cribo. they're so pretty and cool and smart, i love them.)
i feel so bad for you. i had a similar experience, except my mom let me take home a wild turtle. it turned out to be a snapping turtle (just her shell was over a foot long she was massive) and my parents didn't even get me a cage for her, i kept her in the bathtub until my grandma gave me her old fish tank that was like 20 gallons i think. i was like 8 so i didn't have any money and i couldn't even feed myself let alone an animal. i used to take her for walks in the yard and she'd never bite me. eventually my dad released her in a local pond and she probably died but i hope she's alive and happy. just know it wasn't your fault and there was nothing you could've done, i'm sure that cockatiel was happy while he was alive and he felt your love for him. he's in bird heaven now flying free with all the other birds, so don't worry. i know how hard it is to lose pets, especially when you're a kid.
I have one, his name is Charlie in a pair with a quacker parrot named Bella.
Charlie is about 14 or 13 years old and Bella is 12 or 10 years old (I don’t real,y know their ages)

My mum went to Greece to visit her parents last year (we're in Australia) and my tiel got so depressed as she's his mate. We had to ring mum when he refused to eat and he'd perk right back up after hearing her voice. When the whole family went to Greece 6 years ago, our landlords/friends went to feed him and spend time with him every day. He got so depressed without his flock our landlords thought he wouldn't make it. As soon as he heard us at the door when we got home, he just started screaming and instantly perked up when he saw us. So yeah. Birbs get depressed xD
awe
I have one, and he’s literally a 2 year old. He throws temper tantrums, tries to eat EVERYTHING, and poops wherever he wants- but he can be the sweetest thing when he sings. He’s bonded to me, which is nice, but he also tends to bite and fly at my family. I’m trying to work on that, but it’s still hard.
Basically, birds are adorable, and are very sweet. Keep in mind that if you get a cockatiel, you’re adopting a new member of the family. 💕🌸 Every bird is different, and Soda’s bird seems to be much more laid back than mine.
Thanks for making this video. It was very informative, and I believe it will help a lot if people.
Ownt, he's a very cute, i have one too, and his name is "Zé"
I'm from Brazil and i Love you Channel, have a Nice day, and thanks, success for you!
Now how do I convince my mom to let me get one
Angellina Owens you have to do A LOT of
research on them and then say to your parents “I have wanted a cockatiel and I have been doing a lot of research on them so is it ok if I can have one”
I know a couple facts about birds in general, considering I have 3.
1. They can't eat garlic, chocolate, sodium, salt, butter, the strings in celery, avocado.
2. Some birds are very picky, some like vegetables over fruit and some like fruit over vegetables. You have to kind of experiment.
3. Be careful, they bite hard sometimes! You need to bond with them over time and gain their trust.
4. They need lots of love
5. They need a more spacy cage for them to roam around in. You shall also get a perch, so when your bird is out, it can go use the bathroom on the perch.
6. You will have to clean their cage and perch about once a week.
That's all I can really think of as of now, I hope this helped✨💜
Vante yes my cockatiel is picky I will try to give strawberries and bananas and he won’t eat them I am trying to add different things to his food
@@aien4738 Maybe try some pasta...
It can't be buttered though, just plain.

This helped a lot! I don't think I'm getting any type of bird any time soon but this definitely helped and encouraged me to do research! I adore birds and I think cockatiels are the perfect bird for me. ^^
I don't know why but this video makes me feel safe 🥰
I used to think the same about getting another bird, but the best thing I ever did was to get a second bird. I still have a very close bond with both and they are 100% happier. Nothing beats being with their own kind! Like when you go out they always have a buddy!
OMG I REMEMBER WHEN I USED TO WATCH YOUR MLP VIDEOS WHEN I WAS LIKE 8 💀😭
My cockatiel is the same, the minute I uncover her she goes nuts! But she was very shy and skiddish the first month. But now she is more clingy than my last relationship. Difference is, I actually enjoy it
Well said - about being prepared to care for them their whole life!! So important as birds live long lives and need enrichment and your company. Good message!
Lee S agreed!😊 They definitely need a lot of attention.
you sure this is the same account that posted MLP videos...
Lol, you have so many animals! I didn't know you have that much.
I can't get one because my townhomes don't allow them. (Or any birds/exotic pets)
I loved what you did, and I love what you’re doing now.
My taco is black grey, hand raised and reared. The cutest little birdy ever, he loves to watch out the window, fly around and on our heads, he has a bit of Sass but loves to sleep next to us leaning on our faces, he loves to be hugged and falls asleep, loves to be scratched. fucking cute.
Omg that sounds so cute :)
it is now time to rise brotherin
Love your room, and your videos, not sure why they have just now started showing up for me on my recommended list.
Avian rescues are really the best place to start. It will give you a really good idea of the mess and noise level parrots have. You don't get that from a pet store at all, they keep those animals behind sound proof glass!! A lot of people are thrown off by that, but they had already impulse bought one, so now it is in an avian rescue -.-
I did get my budgies from a chain pet store. No regrets. They were completely wild, I knew they would be (I live in the middle of nowhere, so was my only option). I managed to tame and train them. Parrots are really not for people with very little patience.
Now I am working with a rescue cockatiel (we found each other by complete accident), for the past 8 months. He came to me with serious behavioral issues, as well as health issues. So much miss information out there about parrots, it is sad. His previous owner only went off the really bad information the pet store gave him.
Pretty sure my boy wouldn't do well with another. From what he has already been through in life (he was 6 years old when I got him), I don't want to add that level of stress to it. He is still in the process of learning to be a cockatiel again as it is. Maybe down the road I might give it a go. Otherwise he has 4 little annoying budgie friends as well as me.
Budgies are spazzy, cockatiels are chill!
Wish people did put in a lot more time and research before getting any pet. I took 6 months of online research before deciding to get my budgies (just weeding out all the outdated info alone took forever). I bought everything they would need a month before I went to pick any out from the store. Talked to the pet store employee, you can tell right off the bat they are there to just sell you items. There are a ton of dangerous items on the market targeted at parrots as well.
I love cockatiels, been wanting to get one for so long. Most adorable bird
You should get a Cockatiel!!🦜😊

I have a cockatiel and her name is Cleo, I got them parent raised at 9 weeks and she's been bonding quickly. Got her a few weeks ago and I love her so much. Obv not fully tame yet, but they're most of the time calm with me and getting on my shoulder. My brother got their sister/brother and both cockatiels are bonding to us well. At first Cleo was flying everywhere every time I opened her cage, but now she's a lot more calm. Originally she wouldn't come near me, but I used millet to lure her to my finger, and after a few times she no longer needs millet, and is fine with just hanging out. :D These days I try to give her scritches when she's not calm, or if she's noisy and then she calms down. Whenever I do leave my room she chirps a bunch, and it is so cute I c a n n o t resist, so I come back and hang out for another hour. I love Cleo so much.

I've been watching a ton of your videos recently and I really love Yuki! My cockatiel of 20 years recently died, and he makes me so nostalgic for Max. He used to mimcik toothbrush sounds and western show opening tunes!
i’m super exited to get one!! i already have 3 budgies and i’ve been doing a lot of tiel research! i have an okay sized cage setup but since i have all summer and might not go back to school because of corona i’m going to have the bird out of his cage pretty much all day unless it’s night or i’m not home :) i’m planning on buying a bigger cage when i go back to school tho!
So cool to find another fellow tiel lover and RUclipsr! Loving your content right now! 😊💙🦜

I’ll never regret anything more than getting a bird from an (American) chain petstore. We saw a poor little cockatiel getting picked at by the other birds in his cage and decided to “rescue” him from that awful place. Loved that bird for 4 years and then he died very suddenly because of a brain tumor... the vet said he sees it pretty often with birds from those stores. I haven’t even THOUGHT about getting another bird for years because the whole situation was so awful, but seeing your videos with Yuki has made that little bird shaped hole in my heart feel empty again. Maybe when my living situation is solid I’ll think about rescuing one 🥺
I love you’re voice🥺
Aw thank you!
Soda Pets you’re welcome :D
The clipping of wings is against everything I stand for. My couple of cockatiels aren't clipped and the zebbies I have had since 1998 aren't either :)
“It will take very long to tame them.” This doesnt always apply,as it usually does but my budgie wAs parent raised and he was tamed in 2/3 days. But its very rare.
I have a cockatiel currently and he’s almost three years old! I love him so much and I’m so glad I have him in my life
I cannot express how happy I am to have found your channel, because you have so much common sense and knowledge about some of the most mistreated creatures and the most common pets. You cheer me up (and Yuki too) when I need something to go to on a rough day. I could potentially be getting a cockatiel sometime this year, which will be awesome since I've become such a bird brain over the course of the last year, and I really love cockatiels and would be so happy to be able to get one. Thank you for being here and please keep doing these videos, they are all very helpful and fun to watch.
My family and I adopted a cockatiel with a trauma cause his wings was broken and nobody wanted of him cause he was noisy ect but now he living his best life with us With a lot of love ❤️😊
Don't know if someone mentioned this to you, but that green perch you have in the background, I believe it's a concrete perch (correct me if I'm wrong) that it's not good for your parrot's feet. I used to have one for my parrot, until my avian vet told me that I shouldn't use such perches because it does damage to their feet, and it also collects bacteria that can be hard to get rid of.
You need other perch, actually. This type of perch is good, because actually they need it, but not too much either.
I want to explain more, especially since I study for pet care, but I don't know enough English for this.
And you actually have to change them frequently.
@@cookie856 I know that it helps trim their nails, but the cons outweight the pro. For me, simply I do not trust that type of perch near my bird's feet. I have plenty of other perches, made from different types of wood and different lengths, diameters, sturdiness and I consider them to be the safest choice.
@@alice1998wonder Well, I didn't know you had wood perchs, little climb rock, that help them trim their nails too.
But if somebody doesn't have those and only have plastic perch, it's an option to avoid stress out the bird by doing it yourself.
But the best and the safer for the bird well being is to be the closest to this natural habitat, especially non-domesticate one. (Technichly, Cockatiels aren't. They haven't any other use than «pet» for now)
Why am I watching this video when I’ve had my cockatiel for two years
I had two budgies, both of them came from a pet store (I live in Norway so the pet stores here are not as bad as the ones in America) but I will never support any pet stores anymore. I got one first, and had him alone for about a year and then got another one. The first one I got was really affectionate, while the other was more reserved. However, they both helped each other, since Ludo was more affectionate he helped Polly become tame quicker than if he wasn't there. While Polly helped Ludo become more independent, which I liked because then he wasn't as lonely and sad while I was at school. They were free for most parts of the day, flying around and singing. I miss them both because I had to rehome them due to me not being able to give them all the attention I felt like they needed. I gave them to a nice lady with lots of experience with budgies! I actually got some advice from her when I first got them, and she is really nice. They have also formed a pack with two other budgies, and it's so nice to see them play around and socialize with other birds. Sorry for this long comment, but thank you for reading!
Over 60 million years of evolution and natural selection, and nature turns dinosaurs (avian raptors) into these kawaii creatures. I can't... >w
P.s like Soda said, birds get depressed if you're away and aren't giving them a lot of attention, especially if solo. They're highly monogamous, and when solo, they actually think of you as their mate and wont bond very well with other people. (I grew up with budgies).
Where are you from also I haven’t seen your account in so long I used to watch your mlp vids imma have to catch up 🥺
her accent is definitely from New Zealand but other than that idk

My cockatiel, Jojo, was half hand raised by her breeder, and half by me. Since I fed her she had that bond with me from the first week. My sweet little baby!
I’m in America I got my budgie from petco he’s so cute and nice to me 😂 but he’s fine I’ve had him for 2 years and I love him
You are such a beautiful person and soul, never change.
I think my cockatiel is mostly bird raised because he really like biting my fingers but he has had human interaction with his previous owner because after 2-3 days he was stepping up and sitting with me
It's like in picture books when pirates have parrots on their shoulder- its so CUTE-
if i had a cockatiel i would listen to music with it so it squawks my favorite songs!
I feel so bad when I see all those animals in pet shops and I want them so they will have better life.
I focus the most on 2 cute cockatiels
I've had my cockatiel for 5 years
My cockatiel would scream when I left the house and the second the car pulled up he'd scream till I let him out. They are toddlers! They never grow up! Be prepared for being a parent to a 20 yo child
Another problem with wing clipping is that you are taking away their main excersize route. Birds in captivity need a way to burn off all the calories they are eating. If they don't excersize, they can become obese, and even develop a fatty disease.
I am against wing clipping unless your bird is flying away from you and won't let you take it, or something similar, where it is necessary.
Totally agree, i forgot to add that point.
Lol song clipping, my autocorrect is out of control.
I also agree

I have a female cockatiel and really wish I had been more patient and waited until I had found a breeder with a handtame one. I got mine from a petshop and she is impossible to tame (I think she is about 3 years old now). She's like a look at a safe distance and never touch kind of bird.

I have a gray and white cockatiel I rescued. It took a long time but he now a big old baby loves his humans. I knew he was special the moment I saw him, I knew I never give up on him regradless of how long it took. Went from a rescued bird with lots of problems to a big old spoiled loveable bird. He is my big piece of my heart now. Have 8 feather babies all together. 3 cocktails, 4 parakeets, 1 lovebird. Love them all.
i just realized i have the same drawing tablet as you.
great video, i wanna squish those birb cheeks.
My brother owns a cockatiel.
He NEVER plays with it or spends time with it. He barely feeds it and changes it's water (I've changed it before and it had GREEN SLUDGE in it, I'm not even joking). I swear he only got her because she's exotic and he just wants her as some ornament. It's terrible.
Edit: Also for anyone that reads this, please don't do what he does. His bird is so depressed she barely sings. When we first go her she was singing and bobbing her head and giving kissies. Now she doesn't and lashes at anyone that gets near her. That poor bird, I wanna get rid of her but my brother might hurt my dog.
Any update on the situation?
please spend time with her and take care of her!!!
Update?
When i was young i had a cockatiel and he wasn't afraid of anything so when my mom put him at a vacation pet kindergarten thingy it used to sit on the back of a huge rottweiler. 😅 Fortunately it was a gentle rottweiler and not a grumpy one. 😮
Once it tried to introduce itself to a dachs and the dog started licking it's mouth. I'm sure it would have eaten it if it had the chance, but i quickly saw how that could turn messy and removed the dog. Best not to take any chances with dogs or cats, especially if you don't know and trust them well.
my dyslexic ass read the title as "you SHOULD get a cockatiel" like a threat dfsdfghdfgh
I have learned through no fewer than 3 tragedies that as a kid I was not ready for cockatiel care, I hope nobody else makes the same mistakes I did.
Maintain very high air quality with filtration, not ionizers, no teflon cookware or fragrance stuff.
No standing water, even if its for a leak in the roof.
Keep wings clipped or harnessed if your bird is not trained to fly free.

My 'tiel is named Toast, and has started target training. It really is unfair how cute they are. He's the best!
I adopted a cockatiel five days ago and he immediately got attached to me, whenever I leave him alone or leave him with my mom he just starts to shout until I come, he is a month old and loves to sit on my shoulder
@Charles Fournier Phaneuf then what do you want me to tell, you sound too stupid to me
@Charles Fournier Phaneuf yeah, of course I know that, did I say I didn't know, just because I said I "bought" her does not mean I don't care about her
@Charles Fournier Phaneuf just stop fighting with me and go do something useful
I really want a cockatiel they are so cute! I have two lovebirds right now so I know what it’s like, so I’m trying to convince my parents to get one🤞
Just be aware that love birds don't usually get along with different bird species so will likely be very aggressive towards a cockatiel, even to the point of killing them
Ok thanks for the advice. Maybe (if I get one) I will try keeping them in separate cages and have them out at different times, maybe that’ll work
Fun story I got a rescue 3 weeks ago and he is warming up to me. he does well with the lovebirds
I've wanted a bird for years! I just turned 18 and once I move out I plan on getting one. I have this very good store in the city I've gone to multiple times before. They are hand-raised and they're a small business. Some birds are tamed enough to where strangers can hold some birds with no problems! I am an artist and do part time at a retail job. I never go outside and usually just sit around and watch videos or draw. I have a Yorkie who's very timid around other animals. Of course I'd train him to be good around the new bird and never leave them alone together. I don't mind noises at all since my dog cries all the time. Thank you for this video! It's very helpful and calming
I am 13 and I spend all my free time researching birds and fish. I love cockatiels and I want to get one. I would give him a lot of attention and out of the cage time but my parents are divorced and I have one week at my mothers and the next week at my dads. I visit mid week but for the rest of the week he wouldn’t get a lot of attention. He would be well taken care of when I’m not there and he wouldn’t be alone but I don’t know if I should have one because of that. What do you think
When your on the phone do you tell them the squarking is children in your basement
i recommend buying roudybush pellets! a lot of birds that hate pellets actually enjoy eating roudybush:)

Birds also love pasta. I’ll give my cockatiel some noodles like say whenever we’re having spaghetti, fettuccine, etc. I’ll take a noodle for him and place it in a small bowl so he can eat with me and isn’t trying to steal my food
I was mainly just looking at Yuki being an adorbable birb lol

I will be getting plenty ( Not too much ) toys, I'll probably get a transport bag for him too, a stick in there and some food.
I will search up tips of how much food I need to feed him, how often he should be out, what toys I need to get him, etc.
I hope I will be a good owner, you too, if you plan on getting one!

I really want a bird, I have spent so much time researching lots of different types and all the important information but I am not allowed because my parents don’t like birds and I am so sad
Good thing I watched your video before getting one. Their super cute but now thinking it through I’m probably not a good human to have one of those cute little birds :/ sad but true. I have allergies & I do go out a LOT & travel.
I'd like to get a cockatiel! Though I'm worried about my schedule, I work on call so I'm not entirely sure how much attention I can give my bird. Often my shifts are around 8-11 hours a day, 3-5 days a week. I live with my mom, she could also give it attention but I highly doubt she would. I don't want to neglect my bird, but I'd also like to have a strong bond with it... I'm a beginner so I was thinking hand raised. Should I give it a friend right from the get go? That way it's used to the bird as well?
