Been meaning to make a comment on this, I did the same thing a while back with mine, only I wasn't as tidy when soldering. LOL Thanks for sharing or I wouldn't have discovered this simpler method!

I did this with the Tetris version. I only got Tetris and Q-Bert, but each had two versions. Tetris had an earlier version with fewer menu options, and the Q-Bert had a different opening sound effect. Little disappointing, but still cool.

I just completed this mod with the same Space Invaders game and wanted to share some tips for other people and my future self if and when I try this again.
    1. When I was done, the games would crash occasionally, making me think I made an error. It turned out to be low batts (1.3VDC each). 1.5V batts fixed it.
    2. Aside from the top two back panel screws, all the screws are the same size.
    3. Desolder the wires from the batt compartment. It makes things easier.
    4. The length of SCSI cable I used was 3-4”.
    5. The soldering iron temp was 450.
    6. I used both a chisel tip and a point tip.
    7. Removing the jumper is difficult. I added new solder to the jumper, then solder wicked it off and heated it while poking it with a sharp tool until it slid off.
    8. Reassembly is very difficult. The order of parts is: joystick and buttons piece, front screen frame, screen (screw this in first), circuit board (screw this next), speaker, switch, top light. Resolder batt case and click back into cabinet.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and tips!
I agree! The most difficult part for me was putting the pieces back together, other than that I think its very straight forward. I'm glad it worked for you too!

i so want to detach this from its case so its only the screen, placing it into a new case. Then, elongate the joystick cable(s) and play it with a sturdy controller. But i think TV Console Joysticks like Atari and Coleco use more power. Gah, it tempts me for ages.

I just looked inside a Pole Position tiny arcade. It has the same A,B,C,D pairs of pads, but no jumper between any of them. Does anyone think it’s possible that you could make the same mod shown in this video and the result would be that not touching the joystick when powering on would give you Pole Position, AND putting the joystick in different positions when powering on would give you different games? For a total of five games?

Could you please tell me what temp your soldering iron is for this?
