TROP TRIVIA TIME: The reason why Tropicana Field was already 8 years old for the Rays first season is because it was originally built to attract an existing MLB team to move to Florida. The San Francisco Giants were in talks of moving, and so were the Chicago White Sox. My dad even had a Florida White Sox shirt when it looked like the deal was done. Those deals all fell through and eventually the MLB gave an expansion team to Miami instead, so they were the Florida Marlins due to being the only team in Florida. Jerry Reinsdorf successfully got his governor friend to pull some last-minute shady dealings that gave him $150 mil for the stadium. Crazy enough the ballpark got really bad reviews after it opened so the state pumped more and more money over the years to do a series of renovations and 30 years later and they still owe $200 million!
In the late 90s when the Minnesota Twins were first pushing for a new stadium, they had a retractable roof design, that looked like a warehouse, that they wanted built down by the Mississippi river. That's amazing that you've been to every MLB stadium. There's nothing I want more than to see that view of the Bay from Oracle. Unfortunately, as an Ohioan, I am very far away from the west coast. However, Great American Ballpark is pretty decent.
I understand that one of the first baseball stadia to use artificial grass was the Astros, and that it was named Astroturf for that reason. Some time after it was used on some other fields players started having issues with knees and ankles which was attributed to the harder surface (the grass was underlaid). Some players at the time had contract clauses specifying no artificial grass. Persons who might remember the old Parry Field in Perth Western Australia might recall the issues there with artificial turf. As with Yankee Stadium, when the replacement Comiskey Park was constructed some of the long standing fans were invited to help with bringing over some of the old infield to the new Park. The scoreboard thet lights up was copied over to the new Park. One of the "fascinating" fields I once visited was Candlestick Park SF which had dual configurations, Giants and 49ers. At the time I was there Giants had signed Barry Bonds and they were building an additional section in leftfield for his "admirers".
Global Life Field is a beautiful ballpark. I'm so lucky to work at this ballpark. I miss the old ballpark too. I sure don't miss the heat. Especially around the summer time. So I love that roof.
I actually remember going to Target Field back when I was in Orchestra in 5th grade, haven’t actually seen a game there before, but I do know that NDSU Football played at Target Field, next time they play there will be at U.S. Bank Stadium, although I still get to enjoy baseball in the Fargo-Moorhead area and we’ve got independent baseball (aka Minor League Baseball) so if Major League Baseball doesn’t get to happen, I highly suggest checking out independent baseball because last time I checked, they’re still playing this year
Oh finally, I have found a compatriot. I despise naming rights and go out of my way to NOT buy their products/services whenever possible. This goes for not only baseball joints (I stopped caring about the Mets after the 1994 strike, so it's not like I'll be paying to see a game at the joint in Queens), but also title names (see college bowl games and their johns' names). Why do I feel this way, you all might be asking? Well, to me, it's like Groucho said (or is at least thought to have said) and I am paraphrasing the thought: do I really want to buy something because a company felt the best way to convince me theirs is the best was to spend $400,000,000 over 20 years to desecrate a stadium with their name? And, yes, my friends and family already think I'm meshuga.
The Cleveland Indians were named that after Louis Sockalexis who was a Native American player who was a star on the team. Everyone saying it was a racist or non-appropriate name doesn't understand it was to honor a player of the team.
Depending on the lockout we will see these from afar! Stll nice job! as things go The Tampa Bay Rays will be leaving Tropicana Field by 2027 for either a new stadium in The Ybor city area of Tampa or somewhere else.

Rogers Centre (known by its former name as the Skydome) was just featured in the new Pixar movie Turning Red, although it must be said that the stadium didn't fare so well in that one.
Rogers Centre is a baseball only stadium now due to the Argos moving down the Gardner Expressway to BMO Field at the Canadian National Exposition. The other factor it the dirt infield having been built in place. Due to that, the lower bowl seats no longer move to change the interior setup
It's forever heartbreaking to see the Oakland Coliseum after the Raiders ruined it. The original Coliseum was a great place to watch a game, the outfield was well designed and offered views of the coastal hills to the East. 😢
Being an Orioles fan, I love Camden Yards of course. But Oracle Park looks more beautiful than all of the them imo. It would be at the top of my list of stadiums to see.
One thing to add for Roger's Center: The stadium has a confirmed renovation taking place that will cost $330 million to possibly convert entirely to a baseball-specific stadium. So pretty much a college football stadium: renovate instead of renew.
I don't know why but im fascinated by stadiums i love to learn about the history of each stadium and what makes them unique and learning about how say an NFL stadium does things compared to an MLB or a Football stadium in Europe...even things like PBR im fascinated how they set up and keep the bulls before and during the show or lay the soil for the bull riding but then hours later it will be hardwood floor and holding an NBA game ..I cant get enough of that stuff and I don't know why
The Rays need a new stadium that's actually in Tampa. The Trop was outdated opening day 1998. They've made it semi tolerable but it's not enough. The one good thing about it is that it's inside (and that you can pet sting rays in the outfield). But it's in a terrible location and it feels like you're watching a game in a ware house.
The A's are reportedly close to getting approval for a new stadium closer to Downtown Oakland which may open within the next 5-6 years... hopefully (keep in mind opening a new venue anywhere in California almost requires an act of Congress).
I do need to ask because I'm genuinely concerned for the A's here - do you think the organization is willing to wait 5-6 years for a new stadium in Oakland given the way the current situation is?
The only time I ever went to see a baseball game (I'm belgian) was the Brewers vs the Pirates in American Family Field (back then miller park). The brewers didn't score any points until the last inning during which they scored two home runs in a row. Bernie Brewer did not have the time to go back up his slide on time
This is going to sound corny and mostly stupid, but I have to say this. To say my life is difficult right now would be like saying there was a small fire aboard the Hindenberg. I never thought my life would be this tough (especially at 52 years of age). My reason for pointing this out is that, there are a plethora of RUclipsrs that I subscribe to. There are however, only THREE of those RUclipsrs, whose videos actually LITERALLY positively affect my day. Yours is one of those channels, my friend. I guess it is my love of sports, combined with your knowledge of the stadiums you cover (and their home regions), as well as your sense of humor all combined. So thank you for the great job you do, and for all of the work you put into these videos.
White Sox stadium was the last stadium built in the bland concrete box. Camden Yards opened the next year and transformed ballpark design. Also, the White Sox could have built a stadium in an old rail yard in the South Loop with a fire of the Chicago skyline..but they would have had to pay for most of it. Instead Resindorf had the state pay for it
Great video! Sadly though, you didn’t talk much about T-Mobile Park other than it’s roof and that it looks out to another stadium. T-Mobile is one of the better venues to go with the old-style feel (bricks, metal structures) mixed with modern day flare. It’s a top 5 stadium to watch a ball game at.
It may have been a joke but, just to make clear, the Cleveland Browns do not refer to any type of race. They were named for head coach and innovator Paul Brown , one of the great coaches of the post-WW2 era. Sometimes an elf or "Brownie" was used as a logo long ago but otherwise no human form has been used to represent the team.
Shea Stadium was awesome btw…atmospheric, classic and loud! Also held legendary concerts of the Beatles and The Clash..Citi field is far too commercialised
On a clear day you could see the old Yankee Stadium across the river from the Polo Grounds with an unaided eye and did not have to climb all the way to the top row of seats.

Not to be a party pooper, but 2001 was the start of the 21st century. So, pnc park would get the honors as the first ball park to open in the 21st century (ahead of american family field, formally miller park). Rachel Carson was a marine biologist, author and environmentalist. That's why she had the bridge named after her.

I cannot believe Kaffman Stadium is 50 years old. Man, I'm old, I did the math(not to hard), I was 14 when the place opened. The Senators had moved to Texas already, so I was now a Yankees fan. I remember the Royals/Yankees games from back them. Brett with the pine tar home rum. Chambliss hitting a walk off HR to win the series for NY. My family and I were driving cross country on vacation to Colorado and saw Kaffman from our car as we drove out West. If I remember correctly it was to our left and we were seeing it from the outfield in towards home plate. I'm now a Nats fan since baseball has returned to our nation's capitol. 🇺🇸
@@johnmaster3748 Thanks John for the update. Kaffman seems to be a beautiful ballpark, maybe one day I'll be able to stop by and see a game. Unfortunately, I've already miss Tiger Stadium, Cominsky Park, and Shea. I have been to Fenway, old Yankee Stadium, and Memorial Stadium where the Orioles once played.
@Wide World of Stadiums narrator, when Guaranteed Rate Stadium first opened, it was name Comiskey Park II (1991-2003). Then the name changed to US Cellular Field (2003-2016) before settling on its current name
Just goes to show, there's hardly any such thing as a boring MLB stadium. Even the ones that hardly have any character are quite interesting, if only for their lack of character. For example, Rogers Stadium (formerly the Toronto SkyDome) not only held MLB and Toronto Argonaut CFL games, they also hosted the NBA's Raptors as their first venue. And for a while, Tropicana Field was the home venue of the Tampa Bay Lightning - the current Stanley Cup champions. As in ice hockey. And right about now, I could go for a curry burrito.
I think the white Sox ballpark is very underrated. they've done such a nice job with remodeling over the years. it was so plain and dull when it first opened.
Some other items: Globe Life Park: Neighboring AT&T Stadium is also known as "Jerryworld." Guaranteed Rate Field is sometimes known as "Guaranteed Rake Field." More often it's called "Comiskey," because it was opened as New Comiskey Park in 1991. Minute Maid Park originally was called Enron Field. Point and laugh, everybody. And has the best trash cans in the league. Nationals Park's outfield wall's odd contours are a nod to Griffith Park, which was the home of the original Washington Nationals - later the Senators, which moved to Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN in 1961 to become the Twins. Oakland Coliseum: Mount Davis is the worst, except for the stadium's sewage leaks. Oracle Park: Everybody's bucket-list park, until sea level rise wipes it off the map. Oriole Park at Camden Yards: Can anybody say anything new about this lovely place? PNC Park: A beautiful park, with a great view... shame about the team. Progressive Field: JACOBS FIELD, DAMMIT. The Guardians went from "The Mistake by the Lake" to "The Jake." Rogers Center: Everyone calls this Skydome. The Blue Jays really want to replace Skydome with a modern stadium. Target Field: Almost all of Target Field's lights are mounted in the cantilevered canopy. Those that aren't are mounted in a light bar attached to the Twins logo in center field, which rhythmically dims the first and last letter after every victory for the home team to form the words "TWINS WIN." Gate 34 is also directly across the street from Target Center, home of the NBA's Timberwolves and WNBA's Lynx. Tropicana Field: How do you make a dome worse than the Metrodome? Also, the Trop shares another characteristic with a Twins home venue: Like the "Old Met" (Metropolitan Stadium, built 1955, the Twins moved in in 1961), it was built in an area with no Major League Baseball teams for the specific purpose of attracting Major League Baseball to the area. Truist Park: Is sometimes sarcastically called "Lester Maddox Park" after Governor Lester Maddox, an ardent segregationist. Its name sounds like a made-up word from a dystopian YA novel. Wrigley Field: Wrigley was completely rebuilt between 2014 and 2019. Yankee(tm) Stadium(tm): A shopping mall shaped like a ballpark.
On the note to the outfield fences at Nationals Park: Griffeth Stadium had about four, right angles in the outfield wall that a ball might hit off it causing a bad bounce or causing a playing to run smack into the wall. On July 5, 1924, the New York Yankees were in town against the Senators and that's exactly what happened to Babe Ruth. He was chasing down a fly ball and ran full force into one of those right angle walls and was knocked out.
Apparently this person didn't do their research on Atlanta's move. The main reason why they made the move was because the city of Atlanta never lived up to it's word after the Olympics on making the area around Turner Field better. It got worse. Traffic, crime, and just the area itself was a bad spot for a stadium. Plus the Braves didn't own Turner Field. The move was very much needed although I do miss Turner Field some. Truist and the area around it is awesome though

Well done! Did you get food poisoning at Globe Life Field or something?
Nah. It's more like a bitterness towards the team for leaving Globe Life Park. I loved that place, 107-degree weather and all!
I don’t know if it’s supposed to be a jab at the rays current situation regarding the trop or a typo but I like the TBD by the trop. That’s really what the situation is right now. 😂
That's amazing that you've been to every MLB stadium. There's nothing I want more than to see that view of the Bay from Oracle. Unfortunately, as an Ohioan, I am very far away from the west coast.
However, Great American Ballpark is pretty decent.
Wow Kaufman as your number 2? That just surprises me…
Great video! Enjoyed it very much. Maybe you can also cover the LMB (Liga Mexicana Biesbol) Mexican baseball league.
The new ballpark in Arlington are very good!
Thank you, I enjoyed viewing that 😀
Thanks for watching!
What a wonderful video. I am obsessed with stadium architecture. I appreciate all the details and humor. Love it!
Global Life Field is a beautiful ballpark. I'm so lucky to work at this ballpark. I miss the old ballpark too. I sure don't miss the heat. Especially around the summer time. So I love that roof.
Thank you so much for doing this
I love the chill vibe of your videos. However is this the video of stadiums or bridges !!!???
Nothings better than PNC Park.
I actually remember going to Target Field back when I was in Orchestra in 5th grade, haven’t actually seen a game there before, but I do know that NDSU Football played at Target Field, next time they play there will be at U.S. Bank Stadium, although I still get to enjoy baseball in the Fargo-Moorhead area and we’ve got independent baseball (aka Minor League Baseball) so if Major League Baseball doesn’t get to happen, I highly suggest checking out independent baseball because last time I checked, they’re still playing this year
Hope to see the lockout end, really missing my beloved Blue Jays. Great vid as always mate.
Go the Jays!
im sorry but this dude killed this video
Most fertile growing stadium area in the world !!! Fantastico , amazing 🇮🇹
u missed a perfect "white brick" joke about Miami LOL. great video as always
Ballparks/stadiums without corporate sponsors are the best in my opinion.
A really good video. I want to see all these stadiums.
The Cleveland Indians were named that after Louis Sockalexis who was a Native American player who was a star on the team. Everyone saying it was a racist or non-appropriate name doesn't understand it was to honor a player of the team.
And then he added on about the browns changing the name lol. Wasn’t that the last name of the owner?
@@killbill0 Yes, Paul Brown
Depending on the lockout we will see these from afar! Stll nice job! as things go The Tampa Bay Rays will be leaving Tropicana Field by 2027 for either a new stadium in The Ybor city area of Tampa or somewhere else.
Would they move cities or keen to stay in Florida?
@@archstanton6102 The City of Tampa is negotiating for a stadium being built in Ybor city with a sharing of the costs with the owner! BUT remember the Rays wanted to Split their season home games with Montreal, which was voyed down by the MLB Owners! IF things fall through with Tampa, they might still move there. They are still in the early stages of negotiations right now. St. Petersburg has already started plans for the Topicana Field site.
@@dennisud Thanks. Am slowly trying to visit all the grounds so will save that till later.
Done 12 so far.
@@archstanton6102 A friend of mine has only 8 more to go and has already hit Tropicana Field. Good luck hopefully aafter they agree on their contract.
@@dennisudMet a guy at Mets game last year who only had the new Rangers stadium to visit. Was one to seeing over 1000 MLB games.
Thanks for the advice.
That background music.

Can you do something on African stadiums?
Thanks! I've been meaning to make a video on African stadiums. I'm sure I will soon.
Rogers Centre (known by its former name as the Skydome) was just featured in the new Pixar movie Turning Red, although it must be said that the stadium didn't fare so well in that one.
As someone that was born and raised in Toronto, it will ALWAYS be Skydome.
Rogers Centre is a baseball only stadium now due to the Argos moving down the Gardner Expressway to BMO Field at the Canadian National Exposition. The other factor it the dirt infield having been built in place. Due to that, the lower bowl seats no longer move to change the interior setup
Pnc Park is the most beautiful stadium to watch the most beautiful game
Another great video. thank you
Thanks for watching!
It's forever heartbreaking to see the Oakland Coliseum after the Raiders ruined it. The original Coliseum was a great place to watch a game, the outfield was well designed and offered views of the coastal hills to the East. 😢
These are some of my favourite videos. Do major league rugby...?
Fantastic - keep up the good work
Being an Orioles fan, I love Camden Yards of course. But Oracle Park looks more beautiful than all of the them imo. It would be at the top of my list of stadiums to see.
One thing to add for Roger's Center:
The stadium has a confirmed renovation taking place that will cost $330 million to possibly convert entirely to a baseball-specific stadium. So pretty much a college football stadium: renovate instead of renew.
I don't know why but im fascinated by stadiums i love to learn about the history of each stadium and what makes them unique and learning about how say an NFL stadium does things compared to an MLB or a Football stadium in Europe...even things like PBR im fascinated how they set up and keep the bulls before and during the show or lay the soil for the bull riding but then hours later it will be hardwood floor and holding an NBA game ..I cant get enough of that stuff and I don't know why
great video keep it up bro. excellent
The Cleveland Browns are named after their original coach Paul Brown.
and the mascot is a dog
Was going to remark the same thing. I really hope the creator was trying to make a joke.
Please tell me you knew he was joking…
I'm surprised you didn't talk about the fountains in KC. That is the signature part of the stadium.
Hey this is kind of random but I really like your thumbnail designs!
A's old field 🙅♂️New Park 🙆♀️
I do need to ask because I'm genuinely concerned for the A's here - do you think the organization is willing to wait 5-6 years for a new stadium in Oakland given the way the current situation is?
We are not close but I do hope it happens
@@dfloriza We might be
Should've went with the classic name of Spiders.

Fenway is just absolutely beautiful imo! Giants fan here, btw (also, Field Of Dreams movie lover)!
Can you please do a video of MLS stadiums for this season? The MLS season starts this weekend.
Yeah, they should. Go D.C. United!
The only time I ever went to see a baseball game (I'm belgian) was the Brewers vs the Pirates in American Family Field (back then miller park). The brewers didn't score any points until the last inning during which they scored two home runs in a row. Bernie Brewer did not have the time to go back up his slide on time
This video is fantastic!
So thank you for the great job you do, and for all of the work you put into these videos.
small fire aboard the Hindenberg
or a small hole in the titanic
I am glad to hear you enjoy the videos. Thanks for watching!
To my memory, the Chicago White Sox' current stadium used to also be called 'Comiskey Park'... then the corporate sponsors naming rights took over.
Instead Resindorf had the state pay for it
I live in gage park so leave the white Sox where they are 😅
Nice to see my Seattle Mariner’s got the thumbnail for the video 😁
Great video! Sadly though, you didn’t talk much about T-Mobile Park other than it’s roof and that it looks out to another stadium. T-Mobile is one of the better venues to go with the old-style feel (bricks, metal structures) mixed with modern day flare. It’s a top 5 stadium to watch a ball game at.
Took a tour of T-Mobile a couple years ago. Amazing venue. And I was impressed with how quiet that roof is when I’m motion!
The Cleveland Browns are named after the team’s founder, Paul Brown.
Shea Stadium was awesome btw…atmospheric, classic and loud! Also held legendary concerts of the Beatles and The Clash..Citi field is far too commercialised
Toronto should send "thank you" cards to Tampa Bay and Oakland, because they're keeping the Canadian park from being the worst.
The atmosphere at the blue jays stadium can be electric, much more than Oakland or Tampa has ever seen
@@Tu_Padre31 By far the best place
You should thank the mentally challenged guy that left an even worse comment than this. Stops your Yankee comment from being the worst lmao 🤣
Wait until 2024 & Rogers Centre will be completely different
@@Tu_Padre31 have you not seen Tropicana sold out in the playoffs???
The Indians name is not racist I am Native American and was as proud of them as the fans of the FSU Seminoles
On a clear day you could see the old Yankee Stadium across the river from the Polo Grounds with an unaided eye and did not have to climb all the way to the top row of seats.
Hey Wide
I know it’s not related to Baseball but it’s your most recent vid and baseball celebrates its legends so in that spirit
Terribly sad news today with the passing of Shane Warne , a true sporting legend , quite upset . How about a compilation of the stadiums he graced

Oh and Rod Marsh rest in peace too mate you were also one of our favourites
A sad day for cricket. Warnie was one of my favourites to watch. Although I only got into cricket in the last couple of years of his career.
Wonder if Peta still has their concrete tile at Petco Park
Have you done a video about The Cape Cod League or Futures Collegiate Baseball League? If not, I think you should do it.
Video idea: spring training parks, since MLB's spring training starts soon
But when will spring training actually begin now with millionaires and billionaires arguing about money?
Petco Park in San Diego, Oracle Park in San Francisco, and PNC Park in Pittsburgh are to me the Top 3 ballparks in MLB.
The number of Royals (or former Royals) references in this video makes my heart happy...Hosmer showing up on the screen at Petco, Esky showing up on the board in Cleveland and the Royals fans at the Trop just make my KC heart happy. I know it was unintentional, but I love it all the same.
@@georgehunt6381 your memory did not fail you. the view westbound is exactly as you describe it.
I know all about the mlb, but haven’t seen all the stadiums, and found this video. You’re really funny and informational. Good channel/video

@Wide World of Stadiums narrator, when Guaranteed Rate Stadium first opened, it was name Comiskey Park II (1991-2003). Then the name changed to US Cellular Field (2003-2016) before settling on its current name
Nice museum compilation.

Some other items:
Globe Life Park: Neighboring AT&T Stadium is also known as "Jerryworld."
Guaranteed Rate Field is sometimes known as "Guaranteed Rake Field." More often it's called "Comiskey," because it was opened as New Comiskey Park in 1991.
The Guardians went from "The Mistake by the Lake" to "The Jake."
Rogers Center: Everyone calls this Skydome.
MLB 2022 …. Are those two things going together????
Apparently this person didn't do their research on Atlanta's move. The main reason why they made the move was because the city of Atlanta never lived up to it's word after the Olympics on making the area around Turner Field better. It got worse. Traffic, crime, and just the area itself was a bad spot for a stadium. Plus the Braves didn't own Turner Field. The move was very much needed although I do miss Turner Field some. Truist and the area around it is awesome though
