I don’t care about whether this movie is bad or good. It was awesome in my childhood. I could watch it over and over again, especially because my mom looked exactly like Sonya in this movie. I loved everything about it - the music, the fight scenes and the fact that they had so many characters from MK in it and managed to include even original fatalities.

I think one of the reasons why people say it's bad is because of the inconsistencies with the source material, they got a lot of things about the characters wrong and inaccurate, not to mention certain characters died before we got to see them in action such as Rain for example.

Now if they want to complain about the fact that in the soundtrack "two telephone calls and an air raid" was completely different from the movie and they never released the right version. Wow. Took me close to 10 years to notice that the immolation was a homage to Sonya's fatality. This was also my favorite fight from annihilation, great song imo. Jax was badass, Sonya was sexy, Cyrax used to look Gnarly (now he looks a little cheesy but nostalgia still holds a place in my heart).

It was still going off the hype of the first MK movie and thought that by adding more characters and "effects" it would be able to top the first one. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. That being said, I remember when this movie first came out. I was a child, and I wasn't able to see it in theaters, but when it was released on video my mom ordered it on pay-per-view for me and i watched it. This movie, for how cheesy it is, is a blast from my past and I actually love it. This happens to also be my favorite scene in the movie.

Because this movie had the budget of a school play. Check out Rain's and Ermac's costumes in other fight scenes, that's what they look like: school play costumes. Even the CGI was so fucked up, the first time I saw Liu Kang transforming into a dragon, I thought that dragon was a stop-motion model! That's how bad it was!
Marketability? Doesn't matter: Cyrax and Smoke have the best outfits in the whole damn movie. With Jax's arms being a pretty nice second, in that regard.

Like I mean, EVERYBODY instantly thinks of Scorpion and Sub Zero when they hear "Mortal Kombat" but then also featuring a ton of these in the "second row" characters, so to say, like Cyrax, Smoke, Sindell etc. etc., that was something I appreciate this move for and it's one of its very few good qualities.
I like that they included the cyborg running noise in the fight. Whenever Cyrax runs or leaps at Jax, the noise he plays is what you get when you run in Mortal Kombat 3.
