  • A lot of folks always ask me, Brian if you were going to buy a hedge trimmer, leaf blower, string trimmer, or hedge trimmer, which one would you buy? We've used almost everything over the last 15 years, and for me personally, these are the best hand tools for our 2021 lawn care setup and beyond.
I'm not overly "brand loyal" as much as I'm concerned about finding the right tool for the job. That could come from Redmax, ECHO, STIHL or anyone else! The bottom line, everyone makes great products, and you can't REALLY go wrong. The point of this video is to help share some suggestions that if it was "my money" (which it often is), what would I pick TODAY.
You guys know my favorite go to trimmer, backpack blower, edger and hedge trimmer, but what about for you? Love to hear what you guys use as your go to hand tools down in the comments below!

Me and my dad run a lawn care business. We have all echo hand tools (trimmer, edger, blower) I am 15 years old and my dad bought them when I was born so they are about 15-16 years old. We have never had any problems until last season when the edger started acting up, we decided to wait until it dies before be get a new one. It lasted all last season and got us through the beginning of this season. Last week when I was mowing my yard it decided it didn’t want to work anymore. We have a 2620 waiting at the shop to pick up Monday😂. We bought a carb kit to hopefully keep the old one running as a backup. My point is echo last forever. Our trimmer and blower still run beautifully to this day.

I feel the echo short shaft hedge trimmer is more balanced, I can run it longer with less fatigue. But still need the typical vertical shaft hedge trimmer for tight places. 8010 blower is great, recently picked up a 910 maryuama, still in the box. Weed eaters I carry 4 echos, a 3020t with .105" line, 2620t with
095" line, a srm 225 with .095" line and for everyday trimming a srm 225 with .080" line. All have the gorilla bar on them. Each weed eater has a specific purpose. I will be upgrading the two small ones for the newer 2320, less slober from the exhaust.

Brian, I'm like you. Except I run the Redmax EBZ7500RH backpack blower and the Echo SRM-2620 as well. Both are about 4/5 years old and the 2620 has definitely been ridden hard and put up wet. Still runs like a champ. I agree about the durability of Echo's 2 stroke engines. I've owned several Echo trimmers in years past and never have had an issue out of any one. Rock-solid durability all around. As for hedge trimmers, I would go with Echo as well. In fact, last year I ended up purchasing their SHC-225 shafted hedge trimmer. Oh boy, I tell you what the shaft is a game changer for me. My old Mantis hedge trimmer made trimming bushes a total chore. I was fighting it more than making it work for me. The SHC-225's added length makes it easy to trim and shape. Great balance! Again, powered by an Echo made 2 stroke engine. Nothing else needs to be said!

Redmax has made some stout blowers for at least 20 years, they really take a beating. Judging by all the BR600 short blocks, BR800 mufflers, fans and short blocks, PB8010 and PB9010 short blocks Ive done Im positive the Redmax EBZ8550/Husqvarna 580BTS blowers are the best built on the market right now. Shindaiwa were great also but the last one was the EB802. After that its just a red Echo, and their C4 engines were terrible. For what its worth Im running an EBZ7100 thats older than dirt I got all busted up after a landscaper beat it to death for ages. I patched it up and it still runs great and has plenty of power for my job.

My very 1st good weedeater was echo srm225 lasted me maybe 10 seasons. Tru champ! I started with troy built weedeaters because they were cheap after they didn't last me a season I went with the echo srm 225, light weight easy to maneuver I could weedeat all day! Bought a stihl fs91r for the thick over grown yards or establishing new edges that thing is a beast! I rolled like that for a few seasons. Untill old faithful srm225 went ou. Went and purchased the srm-2620T(toryqe) has different gearing in head to produce more torque. I thinknits a bluff doesn't cut any as good as the srm 225 did imo. But I dig it! Went to home depot and purchased another srm225 the trigger on the 2620 was just too stiff and tiring. The 225 gets hot and stops working I'm like wtf. Went and replaced it same one and same issue. Took it back and got a Stihl fs56 I love the trigger on it. Comes with speed head but it's a little weird getting used to the head shape. That's in my current setup.

I am a homeowner, but I do 2 yards. This stuff just lasts forever. I picked up an Echo 2100-SB which is now their PAS system with an edger and trimmer in 2001. In 2004, I picked up a stihl BG85 blower. in 2011, I picked up a Stihl Kombi 130 with the trimmer, edger and Hedge Trimmer. In 2019 I picked up the Shindaiwa 262 (echo 2620). They all still last. My family borrows the Echo- SB for a couple of seasons at a time. I use good gas and good oil, maintain them. But they are never in the shop. The Shindaiwa 262 is my favorite trimmer. The Stihl 130 is too much power for a weekly trimmer. I know the entry level Echo trimmers aren't as good as what I have, but take care of your stuff and it will work for a long time.

My 4 blowers are steal br800× and the br800c side start model and I also im still rocking the br600. But by far the most powerful one is hands down my. New echo bp9010 that and the br800x are my 2 goto blowers. For trimmers I youse my steal 131r with I've had for almost 5 years, and last year I picked up a steal 240r wich is an absolute beast. Great for running the 170 string when I trim around retention pounds and overgrown properties. For line trimming and edging I love yousing my steal 100rx extremely light. Then I have a little steal 40c curved staff for just quick light duty trimming. For hedge trimmers I got the heavy duty 24" attachment for the 131r with the articulating attachment. I also have the steal ht56 hedge trimmer I want the ht 82 wich will cut really heavy duty stuff. But yeah thats what I run for power hand tools in landscaping.

Shindaiwa T235 for trimming and M262 for edging, pole saw, etc. Husqvarna 535L for overgrown trimming (it’s a beast). Husqvarna 350BT blower. Husqvarna 122HD60 hedge trimmers. Stihl MS310 and MS170 chainsaws. Obviously not brand loyal. Just use what works best for me that dealers (I want to deal with) carry. Except the shindaiwa T235, I would drive across the country for that trimmer lol, seriously I would!

Redmax bcz306 trimmers are the way to go. I like the redmax heads, but some people prefer the speed feed heads so you can always put that on. The redmax trimmers are built well and last forever. They also have way more power than my echo trimmers. Only knock is they are slow to start and warm up. Echo wins there.

I was about to get away from echo trimmers until they came out with the 2620t, hands down I love the fact that it's very powerful and light!! I also use a red max blower but it's the 6500, not big but it still gets the job done.

Just a homeowner here, but I’m an Echo guy. Price is right and both Home Depot and my local dealer stock everything I need to keep up and running. Favorite tool is the PAS system due to the pole saw and brush cutter attachments which are clutch for my wooded lot. I also like my Echo Bearcat chipper a great deal. The only other brand I’m considering is Stihl only for the BR800, but only if I don’t buy a PB-9010 first.

Yeah I had the Darwin's grip 4years & never installed them. I think it's been 3yrs on my Redmax bcz260ts. I will get carried away with it and do a more wider trimming area. Yeap I just lost that grip 2 weeks ago. Gorilla tape is on it until I remember when I'm Walmart to get a bicycle grip. Redmax/Husqvarna blowers gets the job done. I got 10yrs & 8yrs old. Most powerful when bought haven't been in the shop never doing 70 yards Solo. 2017 Redmax bcz260ts is a beast for me. My 2020 Echo pas 2620 isn't bad, just heavier

I run craftsman 140 cc push edgers. Like $400 and will go through anything. Who cares if you have to throw it away after 3 years if you make your money back in the first month. Makes the first edge of the year pretty damn easy with having a push mower engine attached to it. You can also angle the blade for edging beds. I’d look into it. It’s worth it.

Brian I can guarantee you someone swiped it. Our stuff is under lock and key because people are mad sketchy nowadays and will steal anything.. It sucks I've lost a blower when I was working on my own same situation someone picked it up and took off probably a quick way to get some money for bad things. Always in permanent marker or some kind of way to mark your equipment that way if it's ever stolen they cannot sell it again find a way to devalue your equipment whether it's putting your name on it you know but doing it in a way they can't just erase it and sell it that's the best tip I have for anyone in the business

I like my stihl br800x, very lightweight and plenty of power. I just picked up a stihl km131r and I really like that too. I am only doing 12-15 houses a week, if I was doing more, I’d be looking into something lighter probably. I like having the detachable unit to swap from trimming to edging from one unit. For hedge trimming and pole saw I use a Milwaukee Quik Lok setup, it’s much lighter and the battery lasts a few hours of hedge trimming. I’ve got several batteries from other Milwaukee tools and could trim hedges all day. I like the ease of maintenance, lack of hassle and upkeep of gas with the hedge trimmer being battery, I don’t use it weekly so it’s a bonus for me. I like the hedge trimmer being on a pole too, the option for an extension for better reach without a ladder.

For blowing grass the 770t is a great blower, the 8010t has been great for leaves but doesn’t idle well to be honest(when it’s hot especially). 2620T is the best weed wacker, don’t have red max where I am. Stay away from stihl unless it’s a 200T(all of the 4 mix doesn’t hold up too well). Had the 91r and 94r both had issues.

You should try a dewalt 20v hedge trimmer, reason i tried it is because of weight, easily half of the lightest gas one i could find. With a 5amp batt runs easily and hour probly more like 1.5. On a cemetary we do there are 30 8ft bushes and im 6.5 so i still have to stretch but that's why i wanted the lightest thing. Still cuts 1/2 inch sticks no problem. When we trim in the fall i take 2 batteries and that lasts all day. No 2 stroke smell, really quiet, light. I believe it has to be the best till a brushless one comes out. Not sure if Milwaukee makes one but I'm sure that would be good too. Sorry for this being lengthy, i just think they're that great
