Thanks for watching. Someone's been in here and they made a really terrible mistake.
Good video mate .. you did well to spot the carb defect.. and now running like a champ..
I appreciate that Mick! Thank you for your time.
I have a Stihl FS80R that I picked up for $69 and I put a $20 aftermarket carburetor on it and it runs perfectly!
It’s a 1995 and other than the fact it’s faded it’s pretty darn good! I love them old stihls
wow very nice !
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE yup sure is!
Absolutely buddy! I was gonna say those old stihl's are absolute beasts!
It's all about how you treat it. If you take care of it, a store brand will last years. If you don't, a top of the line trimmer won't last 2 years
yes you are absolutely correct!
ehh, go see how landscapers treat their equipment lol - although they tend to literally break parts off before anything goes on it.
@M. TTT. I don't buy commercial equipment because I have seen them throw out around. A 2 year old commercial weedeater is usually in the same shape as a 15+ year old private weedeater.
The newer kombi or multi-head tools are so nice to have rather than a whole bunch of engines. The Milwaukee powerhead system looks pretty nice for homeowners.
you're right about that. If I was going to go Stihl, chances are good the Kombi is what I would pick.
That was a unusual place to be leaking. Good job 👍
I know right, I was really confused for a minute as I watched it leak there.
I love seeing a video with my favorite engine from the Stihl pro series 2 stroke!
This engine is probably in the top 5 best all time 2 stroke engines ever made! Great power, great power to weight ratio, throttle response is spot on. If you can find one of these trimmers, for gosh sakes just pick it up! I promise youll love it! :)
I have an FS85 that i have been using for probably 8-9 years now, and it rips thru anything i throw at it.
I also have one of those engines in a Kombi shaft that i built lol! I took the kombi shaft from my km130r and out the fs80 engine on it, wnd my gos what an incredible, versatile tool!
To answer ur question IHG, no i wouldnt use a piece of equipment if it was leaking fuel. Way too dangerous. However, it it was vital to finish ex. Rains a coming in the next 5 mins. If make an executive decision to use it haha!
Great video my man!
yes these engine are really good in my opinion and yes leaks need to be addressed with urgency Thank you Jacob Feather
@Nukemann64 what are your top 5 2 strokes
@@ENGINERESCUE86 1. Stihl pro series engine, 2. Husqvarna engine x-torq, 3. Echo x series 4. Lawn boy gold series engine, 5. Square homelite engines.
The homelite one gets the 5th spot bc it means so much to me, as it was the first trimmer I used , and they're pretty darn good too for being a half crank engine. :)
@@Nukemann64 I'm glad the f series 2 stroke made this list. I'd be disappointed if it didn't. Nice picks
Good call on the new carb, amigo. This trimmer starts and runs well. :)
it certainly got rid of the leak at least. Thank you Shoe Slideshows.
The metal plate is for deflecting heat away from the carb mainly but also for a solid mount. These are built really well unlike the new models. I’m not a fan of the 4-mix engine but it sounds cool.
thank you Andy Becker.
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE hey mate do you have a carb for husqvarna 125b blower and a carb for husqvarna 235r trimmer
also i love your vids im a big fan
for the blower yes, not the trimmer
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE how much for the carb mate ??
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE how much for carb mate
I don't mind oil leaks too much because between eyeballing and checking levels I'll find them pretty quick but I don't want a gas leak. I'm allergic to burning to death. Good fix and that had to be the wrong carb. Happy weekend!
you and me both!, thank you Lewie McNeely and happy weekend to you too!
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE Son-in-law has a birthday and the while tribe will be coming here. A wild time will be had by all I bet!
Nice work on that sthil edger
thank you
Great repair and video. 👍🙏👍🙏
thank you RayFpv.
Great video!! What detergent do you to clean it? Thank you 😊
thanks, I'm using a degreaser from Harbor Freight, it's the only one they carry
No if it's leakin Gas I will not use it father-in-law wants to give me a newer steel weed wacker. He wants to go to battery Thank you for the video
interesting, I guess he just doesn't want to mess with gas issues anymore?
On some carbs the primer bulb is on top of a double check valve. I've got a really old Stihl blower that has a check valve that has failed. No leaks, just doesn't prevent one directional flow. I'm planning on putting a inline check valve since the carb got discontinued. (No aftermarket clones either). Thoughts?
yes you are correct, I've had one of those check valves fail. Luckily I had a spare one, from a different carb and just swapped it. As far as using an inline valve it should work.
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE update, got a clone carb that was kinda close besides the throttle linkage. Pulled the throttle linkage off the old carb (brass bar, plate and all!) And slid it into the clone. Started first pull, and actually had all the tuning screws that Stihl seems to forget on theirs. Revived a vintage blower without having to Frankenstein it too bad.🤙
nice work!
what are you using to clean your machines? Is it just soap and water or some sort of degreaser?
it's a degreaser I get from Harbor Freight
Great job as always, Me.. i personally try to service the original carb first until i absolutely have to order a aftermarket one. Theres nothing wrong with a good aftermarket one i just like to have OEM. That was strange it had a casting defect. Youd think with the pice of OEM catbs they would alway be perfect. Just my opinion i guess. One quick question❓ will you do a vidoe on you sentinal lawn tractors please?? I restored one to near factory condition and dont see a a whole lot of videos about them. Keep up the awesome content
thank you Gary Allen, and not yet. The Sentinel was the one were I had fuel leak into the engine, and I kind of ruined the engine, so the next video on it will be about taking the engine off and the frame and opening it up to see the damages.
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE oh ok, that definitely a video I'm gonna be looking to watch. That sucks that happened to you. It happend to me when I first got mine an a whole tank of Regular True-fuel leaked into mine. Thankfully I seen it happened because I had just filled it up and was like... We're in gods earth sid all mine expensive fuel go lol. I didn't start and changed the oil and fuel mix and it was good to go. Sorry for my long story 🤣🤣
I appreciate the story too!
what would be a possibly reason that the engine wouldn't start even after putting some fuel in the carbs throat? I have good compression and spark.
it will start sometimes after putting fuel in the carbs throat but only after like 3 attempts and 50 pulls.
for a trimmer like this one, if the engine is flooded with fuel, adding more won't help it to start and keep it from even trying to start
I would also recommend using a compression tester to find out for sure, especially if its on the borderline
Oh okay thank you I'll try that 👍😀
Nice fix. It would have been nice to say whether the blade nut was left-hand or right-hand thread, since the blade was well-worn.
thanks, and yes you make a good point.
@MazichMusic it's right hand thread
What brand of 2 stroke oil were you using? 8:43
I think it's BlackMax Synthetic
I go thru a few gallons of 2 stroke gas a year using leaf blowers to dry cars after a wash. Really good strong touchless drying method.
yes I've heard that works great!
what blower do you use?
@@M.TTT. Cheapest Troy-Bilt 2 stroke leaf blower they offer. Great blower. I use a product called Formula 4 Spray Wax that makes the paint very hydrophobic as a post wash in a foam cannon and then leaf blower it dry with absolute ease.
@KLX boy ah not bad. Then a battery one may actually end up being more powerful than that blower, or even a backpack blower. But if it works, it don't need replaced
@@M.TTT. It all came down to cost. Getting a more powerful Ego ultra high CFM blower just to dry cars was just outta the question but a $100 blower when I already own use 2 stroke gas..... okay you have my attention. The blower costs more than my gas pressure washer. Forget it.
Gday .
I always figured the plate was a heat shield.
Ive seen some with upto 4 plates on them.🤷♂️
it might be both then, heat shield and support, I like the way you think Tim Asling!
Inside house garage I had to order a new carburetor for for my Stihl fs90r it cost me $63 dollars but I went to my local Stihl dealer and got it
that works, and you made a great choice!
What cleaner are you using?
for this vide I don't recall but I would recommend using the degreaser from Harbor Freight
I have a Ryobi 2-cycle weed eater and I am at loss with it... It will start but only on starting fluid. I have replaced the fuel lines which were worn, replaced the fuel filter, replaced the carburetor, and had fresh fuel/oil mix in it. I don't know what could be wrong... Any ideas? Is it even worth fixing?
as long as it's complete and in decent shape, yes it's worth saving. Have you tried to adjust the carb?
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE no idk how to
For my two stroke gasoline, I just dump it into my car at the end of the season. Makes me mix fresh gas next season, and whatever remainder 2stroke oil is left in the gallon container is negligible to a full 13 gallon tank on my car.
yes that works great too!
it's probably good for your injectors actually, similar to Lucas additive.
Hey bro ,what's up? That was very strange and interesting to see where the leak was coming from. I guess that the owner had their edger stored engine down and that might be the reason why the fuel cover looks discolored. I personally would address all issues to my equipment ASAP but I'll never use one that has a fuel leak or one that is shocking me also.
I know right, it was strange, and yes fixing a leak is always the best way, thank you Ramadin Sookhoo.
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE you're welcome bro. If I had to choose between a fuel leak and getting shocked, I'll rather take the shock. A little shock good to keep the heart working properly bro😅
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE do you think that the person who serviced the edger was probably servicing more than one carburetor and probably got the carburetors mixed up?
yes it would
ah that's a good possibly.
Hey I have a question if you dont mind, I have a stihl weed eater and when I press the trigger it does nothing but it runs fine, what would you think the problem may be?
not a lot of information so let me ask just to help clarify what's going on. So you're saying the engine runs, and when you squeeze the trigger, the engine still revs up, but the trimmer head doesn't spin? If so, you either have broken clutch, or inner drive shaft issues
@INSIDE HOUSE GARAGE Yeah the engine run but when I press the trigger it doesn't Rev up at all
@INSIDE HOUSE GARAGE When I hold the the throttle trigger down it bogs down and dies after 8 seconds or so
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE Can you get back to me when you get the chance?
oh I see, I think I get what you're saying. Have you check if the spark arrestor screen Is clogged?
guy that's a first ,from zama
I know right
I have a stihl fs80 that runs perfect but the rpms will randomly drop when idleing then go back to normal again do you know what could cause this?
could be a an air leak, but without knowing more about it, I'd only be guessing
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE its strange that it drops then idles as normal again ill check for an air like thank you for answering
ok
@INSIDEHOUSEGARGE hey mate do you have a carb for husqvarna 125b blower and a carb for husqvarna 235r trimmer
also i love your vids im a big fan
yes I happen to have a new one for the blower , but not the trimmer.
thanks I appreciate it.
I would not use the machine with a leaky carb. Like you said in your previous videos, carbs are relativity cheap. I would of replaced the carb with the right one.
thank you William Snow you're absolutely right about that!
No i wouldnt. I would have ran to my parts bin or stihl dealer to grab a used base and replace it on the "og" carb. My dealer would have given me that part for free. Great repair!
you have a great relationship with your dealer, nice! Thank you Ethan Miller
I really don't want to end up in the ER with burns, so I would fix a fuel leak immediately.
you and me both
Bet that carburetor had an interesting story behind it...one we will never know for sure. What a triple whammy, though; the wrong carb installed, the carb having a manufacturing flaw, and still not being able to use their edger.
That is an active leak with it not running! No way I'd use it, so I can see the owner not using it. You did the customer good on this repair. 🐺🔧
thank you Jonathan Sherwood!
for me not a chance and i,d repair the leak unless i want a fire hazard on the property i would use my tools on and of course if i ever owned one of these well same thing basically etc.
you are absolutely right about that, thank you Patrick Stapleton.
Yes I would use with the leak. I only have a small yard. But, I would look into fixing it after I got out of the burn ward
