@@RobGcraft you can take a series of photographs with a good camera whose position you know (think camera with gps receiver on top) and use a 3D reconstruction algorithm. Then you need to import that into the game and probably tweak the quality a bit (removing extra polygons, using texture mapping to provide the depth of the objects without huge impact in resources, correcting artifacts, etc). I don't do the gaming bit so someone else might know better. But as far as acquiring the data goes, that is how you can do it. You can also use LiDAR as an alternative and build a mesh through that.

You have to render two screens so it's a performance destroyer, and the reputation of Kylotonn isn't exactly good in terms of optimisation (ask the console players lol) The amount of work needed may not worth it considering the number of people playing VR.

That's by far one of my favourite things I've ever experienced in VR. Going through the water splash in Dirt, and then frantically trying to use the paddle (my mapped wiper button) to get visibility back through the windscreen. It just feels real.

Just a heads up for anyone who wants a handbrake for cheap. You can take a ps4, ps3, or xbox controller and break it down and use the switches in a box, long brake arm connecting to the switch, and you have a handbrake ;) Great vid as always

Been driving wrc7 and now 8 for months now and you can really feel afraid driving some of the stages. It is brilliant. You can't feel that driving F1 2019.
I'm extraordinarily pleased that this game has long stages in it and multiple unique stages making up a rally. I remember watching vids for the original Dirt Rally demo game and was confused why everyone loved it. Codemasters basically split one long stage into multiple mini stages and called that a complete rally.
Here it's the same. Even at the beginning of this video you can see the shorter stages are various pieces of this long one plus reversed. Still, with that many locations it's not a surprise.

@@Tuulos They did need to design them of course. Only some bits and pieces within them are based on real places, most of the stage is designed manually with no real life template. Only stages where the layout matches the real life ones closely are the short spectator stages (superspecials).
I actually find the straight parts of the course to be the most challenging because the AI does them so fast but for me it's almost a 50/50 proposition between getting through it fast and ending up in a tree somewhere. The tighter courses where you need to show some restraint on the throttle are the most fun
So I’m fairly new to dirt rally 2.0 I downloaded it on PlayStation plus not 5 days ago and it has risen to the top of my list. Without question while I can respect and be amazed at some of the speed and ability people in this game, one of the things that has gotten my attention has been the wracks that you can have in this game! So far my record is 4 end over end roles and eight rollovers! And both happened within one minute of each other on the same leg of the race. What country was it you may ask, Spain! Love that run!
Wrc8 is the best rally game in a long ass time. Don't get me wrong, DR2.0 is good too, but it has a bunch of little issues that detract from it. And obviously, dlc...
You want a challenge Jimmer? Try either Monte Carlo's long stage or one in Mexico with weather variations and at night, those stages are absolutely brutal.
I know your not a controller driver, but as one, it would be great to see a comparison on wrc8 with the wheel versus the controller, what do you reckon? Some of us are sim fans with limited gadgets, so would be great to see you do a video on that. Top work dude, love that you are an actual rally fan!
Hello Jimmy, WRC 8 is just an awesome game, great stages and FFB!! You must have a good set up on the car to do a time like that and chat!! I play on PS4 Pro with the Thrustmaster/Sparco stuff, all I can say is, it plays great. Have you tried "Monti di Ala" reverse, Rally Sardegna, lovely stuff, set to dawn, sunny spells😂. Maybe you could upload a run, cheers, Daniel.
But creating a non-forgiving damage model should be easy... its rather that the designers want to make it easier for the gamer... but there are options to limit damage, so at least the hardest mode should be absolutely non forgiving.
@@pokefrosch617 and wrc 8 with realistic damage is the closest a rally game ever got to that. I think RBR was quite unforgiving too, but wrc8 is much more detailed.
Also, the times arent actually set by people playing the game, proving them actually possible. That always bugged me. World record on torsby is 3:02. First place in torsby is 3:00.
I understand how this could be challenge but I always play like this. I just need to hear my co-driver, feel the road under the tires and try my best to McRae the track.
For sure there is still only one rally sim out there, so there is no choice for real enthusiasts, but the stages & physics in WRC 8 look like good compromise for casual players - good job developers! Especially compared to Dirt Rally 2.0 with it's minimal overall progress from 1.0.

I was never a fan of official WRC game but just because of the environment design, I am playing this more often now.

It does affect handling when going though a puddle. You can easily lose it

Needs the RBR damage model where as soon as you even think about looking at a tree, you know you're about to hear "sounds like the gearbox is broken"
