Frutiger aero needs to make a comeback.

PinkPantheress kinda brought back Frutiger Metro in her latest video, and there's some Frutiger Aero + Metro edits around RUclips and TikTok.
This style influenced so much of my childhood. The UI of computer I used as a kid, the home screen of my first phone, the look of ipods as well as the ads for it at the time, old toy designs… god just seeing it makes me feel happy and refreshed.

I know it's mostly known as a one hit wonder group/one guy, but Owl City's Ocean Eyes is THE Frutiger Aero album, every track is so good. I don't know if it was just the first print run of it, but the album didn't have a regular plastic jewel case, it was sheen cardboard with some plastic bits to it, eco modernism style. The initial DVD release of WALL-E had the same type of case, and I know it's just the style of the brand but I like to imagine the smooth cardboard case of the movie's recent Criterion Collection release is a callback to that DVD eco modernist case.
He isn’t a One Hit Wonder, he actually had quite a few big hits. But I agree, Ocean Eyes screams Frutiger Aero.
Oh my gosh, I LOVE Owl City! I always wondered why his music and Frutiger Aero goes so hand in hand.
Ocean Eyes is a serious contender for greatest Electronic album of all time in my opinion. To this day I’m still baffled how it (and most of Owl City’s other albums) only received middling review scores.

I'm glad to see Sonic and Mario on the thumbnail and video. Both franchises (specially main Sonic platform games) were sooo Frutiger Aero in the 2000's that I cannot help but be amazed! (I mean, the friggin Window XP background appears on a cutscene on Sonic 2006)
Another videogame that is iconic as Frugiter Aero is The Sims 2 and The Sims 3. Honestly, I won't be surprised if these games made grow a liking to this aesthetic!!!
somehow i feel like mario galaxy 2 was way more frugiter aero than 1 and the sonic riders games are weird zero gravity and the orginal both feel way more y2k than frugiter aero even tho they came out in the late 2000s rather than the early 2000s like most people say y2k was around for free riders tho defiantly feel frugiter aero
@@TheLetterS_Rebooted Same. Personally, Frutiger Aero and Y2K are mostly set in the 2006 to 2014, because tecnology was more modern than webcore (the Window XP) but not as it is now post 2017. That's why some older videogame models or renders might look more Y2K compared to now, examples: The Sims 2 artstyle, Sonic 2006 and Sonic Free Riders artstyle, Mario Wii Games (especially Mario Kart Wii in my opinion) Project Diva and The Sims 2 (even tho this came out in 2004).

I still have the Sims 2 CD roms for PC with some dlcs! Unfortunately, they don't work anymore on my PC, but I'm sure will work on older ones.

I always did prefer unique styles like these over boring old simplistic ones. People can say I’m blinded by nostalgia all they want but you gotta realize that not everyone will have the same tastes as you. I also understand why some people like simplistic designs more.
I personally love FA nostalgia aside, because of the nature, and animals (I also love bubbles) It also makes me feel optimistic about my future

The defunct cable channel, The Hub, (which I grew up with) had a fruitger aero aesthetic during it's first era from October 2010 to June 2011

Mainly the section about the wii. While the main menu aesthetic can generally be agreed to be frutiger aero, many of the games you listed lack any qualities that would really make them frutiger aero imo. Like the visual design of Nintendo games has not changed a lot since the days of Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros, and Mario Bros Wii, I don't really see what makes these wii games truly frutiger aero. Smash Bros in particular even goes for a fairly realistic artstyle compared to Nintendo typical more cartoony artstyle. Wii sports even uses fairly realistic artstyle outside of the menus and the Miis themselves
I'm also not certain why C418 is in the video, frutiger aero is a visual design aesthetic so his music while being nostalgic for late 2000s is not necessarily frutiger aero. I'm not necessarily certain what to call his music genre, vaporwave is the what it is closest to but even that doesn't feel right
Mostly though, it was a fairly well produced video. Just a few entries didn't fit imo. When I said 2000s nostalgia circle jerk it mainly was meant to apply to the discourse people were having in the comments where people just reminisce about their nostalgia and call it frutiger aero even when it has zero relation to the design language used in frutiger aero works
If you're looking for reccomedations for any entries in the next video, you should look into Electroplankton. It was a DSIWare game that I feel fits the aesthetic well

I'll be honest that little section was just me bragging about my Wii collection.
I think what most people think of "Frutiger Aero music," as is atmospheric which I think C418 does pretty well at.
Eh, I don't know how I feel about that, I just think it was a little rude from my perspective. I think some people need to focus of the design aesthetic rather just reminiscing on the past which I kinda helped fuel. You're all good now tho :) (if you don't mind can you tell me what you didn't think fit in the iceberg)
I've also been fascinated with Elctroplankton so I think that could be a good one to cover.

Want the top of the iceberg: The first season of Fortnite: Battle Royale unexpectedly contains Frutiger Areo. Some of people compare this style to Lazy Town in some form.
You want the very bottom of the iceberg, look at Genki Rockets: Tetsuya Mitzuguchi’s virtual musical band. Their songs, videos and even their own video game (Child of Eden) contains as much Frutiger Areo as you can taste.

when i was a little girl my mom used to take me to the thrift store to buy affordable toys. well one day i found this toy that I didn't know anything about with a little tiny code at the bottom (it was a funkey) i brought it home, booted up the old desktop she had, and joined funkey. that game was my shit as a kid from then on. it was my absolute favorite thing. thank you for reminding me

The graphic designer in me is screaming. It's not the fault of the video as the presentation was very good, but this "style" or "aesthetic" is so vague and encompasses multiple different styles that aside from being commonly used in the early 2000's era seem to have very little if anything in common. I'm not even convinced the people who coined the term know what they named the style after because the font shows up few times in these examples, and it also includes the design language that replaced Aero which would seemingly make it not fit this style at all aside from it being created roughly around the same decade.
I'm not trying to hate on the video and I hope you don't take this the wrong way. The editing is pretty decent and the pacing was good. I hope you continue to make videos and improve at doing so. I just can't say I enjoyed it for the subject matter.

frutiger aero is 2004-2013.
in 2011 a new aesthetic came out called frutiger metro which quickly killed frutiger aero by 2013.
and then frutiger metro was quickly killed by oversimplification by 2016.
although minecraft came out in 2009, it had nothing to do with frutiger aero (yes that includes the music even though the music is beautifully nostalgic)
windows vista is the first frutiger aero version of windows and it died with windows 7. (windows xp is not frutiger aero)
not everything followed frutiger aero's design during the frutiger aero era. it has a VERY specific look and it isn't just about not being simplistic. even the shading was extremely specific. there had to be a crisp shine to it and it HAD to be otherworldly and futuristic.
Metro and aero are on the same tier, metro never killed aero but oversimplification did kill both. Frutiger aero music has a sort of empty vibe which minecraft kinda does. XP was just on the iceberg so i had to cover it but I get what you're saying.

I love that style it's my one of my biggest nostalgia.

i still have a hard time to accept the frutiger aero as something on the lvls as 80s and 90s memphis design. when i think of the early, mid 00s, i think of dark menacing depressing suburbs and music. nu metal, emo, metalcore.
I can agree that frutiger aero is distinctive in the late 00s in electronic devices and the electronic medium as a graphic artstyle, but it was not visable in the physical world.
i still think its a fad aestethics compared to y2k and memphis design.
Wall-e was pretty fruitger aero, especially the ending. What stood out to me most was the contrast between Wall-E who looks kinda like a cute Caterpiller or some other classic construction equipment vs. Eve who looks like an iPhone or Macbook style robot (kinda like those iDogs or whatever they were called). Also Wall-E is obsessed with the film Sound of Music. This kinda represents a marriage of the 20th and 21st centuries which fits with the general theme of optimistic futurism of Fruitger Aero.

The future we were promised but never got. I get so angry at literally EVERYTHING these days since everything doenst have personality or pop. Its one of the main reasons why i believe that nintendo truly died with the 3ds along with the whole aesthetic of frutiger areo. Everything is too corporate and flavorless. If i could go back in time and make this the future of the planet, i would rip the universe apart to do so because theres less and lees hope for the future being interesting and ACTUALLY progrossive.

In all honesty I wouldn’t be surprised if the rising anger towards technology from older generations is the complete abandonment of humanism and fruitiger aero in UI design. They were able to master the dumb phones and windows XP/7, but since 2012 they have been unable to resonate with or feel welcome in learning the newer technologies.
I can relate entirely, even though I’m 24. There’s no excitement or feeling of refreshment when you look at iOS/MacOS/Windows/Consoles interface compared to 15 years ago. Tech went from being a tool designed to support your endeavours with a lovely interface to this minimalist slab of information that controls your life.

half of this stuff isn't even frutiger aero and is just 00's nostalgic stuff lol.
the office features more than just "a couple people", and they never used longhorn. longhorn was never a public windows release. also, the dunder mifflin website is definitely not frutiger aero, just really early Y2K-ish.
windows XP definitely doesn't use frutiger aero very heavily in its design, again being more Y2Kish. although some icons and Bliss are a bit more in line with what's seen in frutiger aero design.
idk how cyriak's work was counted as frutiger aero here. it has no features of the aesthetic. his work is almost always surrealist and abstract.
i also dont get why there has to be loud memes every few minutes, and idk why the guy didn't finish the script instead of trying to be meta and quirky with the "i was too tired to finish the script lol".

9:38 Geometry Dash player here, while I wouldn't exactly consider GD "Frutiger Aero" it does allow you to upload custom levels to the servers, and the custom levels I can think of that actually fit the aesthetic are Over The Horizon and aero blue vista

White/light cool color dominant color schemes and glossy design just looks good. Reminds me of some of the sets from Drake and Josh or iCarly
You seem to confuse skeumorphic design with frutiger aero a small amount at the beginning. Being realistic, detailed or including gradients doesnt necessarily mean frutiger aero. The images of company logos for example didnt feauture a single frutiger aero design really.
Windows XP has gradients and plenty of detail, but isnt really frutiger aero. Frutiger aero has a focus on natural patterns, glossiness / reflections, and the futuristic style of the mid 2000s - early 2010s, in a sense being a type of retro futurism. I think the crystal project / crystal remix icon set are probably the most typical frutiger aero designs ive seen.
Dells “aero” background that comes with many dell computers / laptops as the default wallpaper is also definitely frutiger aero with its glossy textures, but a bit abstract like vistas default. This wallpaper was originally made for windows 7, but at least still comes as the default on their inspiron line of laptops, which i found slightly nostalgic and actually looks really good with windows 11 and 10.

the game "Flower" on PS3 has heavy fruitger aero/metro vibes. the PS3 in general and many of the games on it (Playstation Home, Little Big Planet) were very fruitger aero/metro.
5:59 I disagree here. This is retro-futurism, probably inspired by the aesthetic of TRON from the 1980s. The big giveaway that this isn't even remotely frutiger aero is its lack of the frosted glass aesthetic of the windows aero theme and the exclusion of any natural elements (plants, water, clouds) that's included in the style. In fact, most of what's in this video isn't aesthetically frutiger aero other than sharing a glossy appearance. Some of what's displayed, like the games, did have music that's included in the frutiger aero sound-genre (that includes upbeat Y2K DnB, EDM, IDM, and jungle).
Eurovision 2005 had a very frutiger aero Intro. Also the intro before a country would begin their song was also very frutiger aero

As a fan of The Office and enjoyer of the frutiger aero aesthetic I don’t really see the relation aside from being released during the same time the aesthetic was popular. Only thing I can think of is how the iPod helped The Office really take off as a series since episodes were available on iTunes but other than that I can’t really see aspects of the aesthetic in the show itself
microsoft basically invented frutiger aero as it was the name for their desktop theme from xp to 7 and we have since associated other things to it
