Not sure what you mean, Austin reload is about 3x slower than Harugumo. Even Des Moines has faster reload. It's only fast during a few seconds with reload boost.

I don't get why people think CVs have unlimited planes. They regenerate a plane every 1-2 minutes for each squad, that's a best-case scenario of a plane every thirty seconds, or 40 planes by the end of the game.

Austin represents plans for CL-154 to 159. Basically an upscaled Oakland subclass variant of the Atlanta class; They were intended as a stop-gap measure to fill the CLAA role until the problems with Worcester's guns were sorted out. They were approved, but cancelled before they were named and were going to mount longer barrel, higher velocity, auto-loading 5" 54 calibre guns instead of the 5" 38 calibre found on the Atlanta and Oakland class cruisers. That's why the ballistic arcs are so flat compared to the other US 127mm guns. Austin's barrels are over 40% longer. Though the listed stats in-game show the initial muzzle velocity as nearly identical. 808 m/s on Austin compared to 792 m/s on Atlanta.

Also we can see very clear in the vid that those shells hit almost exclusively superstructure, cuz Flambass intentionally aimed for that part

I dont think, this thing is so unbelievable broken. I mean look at the facts, you have 2k less HP then a Smoly, while you actually eat citadels like Mino and nearly don't produce Ricos and all without smoke like the other 2 mentioned before. Yes it has an insanely firepower while you use the reload boost, but in normal mode with 7sec reload ... not so much. So all in all, this thing will be worthless for 90 - 95% of the players, cause they don't know how to handle this Ship. It just seems so OP in the hands of realy good players. But with todays playerbase you will see this thing normaly blow up faster then you can say Hans get the Flammwerfer.
This Ship actually has weaknesses not like Smolensk or Thunderer, you have to have much skill and game knowledge + good positioning and good dds to make this work
I think the bad angles is due to these 5 inch guns having a much higher shell velocity (with them being 54 calibers long iirc compared to the 38 caliber length of the Atlanta's guns)
Which "bad angles"? Firing angles are great, and the ballistics as well ... for shooting DD and the side armour of ships at medium range. Only st00pid boring plunging fire at med-long range does not work, but that is obviously not what this ship is about ...

"How is this balanced?" Well, it's not. It's an Atlanta with no radar for the most of the game, but then it can be 4 Atlantas every once in a while when you need it to be. Not sure if it's really that OP, because it's frail and situational.
thoughts: #1 WG has an interest in mouse production. If this boat won't kill your mouse (and the finger joints), nothing will #2 Moskva: 50K damage suffered in about 20 secs, no citadel #3 Thunderer: 40K damage suffered in 15 secs, again, no citadel. Just like 100 hits in 15 secs.
To those wondering why Austin ballistics seem to be balanced AF, lets compare it to a cousin -- Colbert. Both are 127mm smokeless AA cruisers, only one is inherently better then the other. Colbert -- 808m/s muzzle, 32.5kg shell, 0.3079 drag. Austin -- 808m/s, 31.75kg *0.21* drag So yeah, Austin has literally 1/2 drag value of Colbert, meaning shell retain speed much better and as such has shell travel time almost the same as Smolensk.
Well "this is balance" because you have managed to live long enough to utilize the reload booster and not suicided on 4th minute like your typical 48% Joe. The best damage output was reached on 2 broadsiding ships within 10 km, until then the damages was shit.

His Question at the end was basically answered at the same time he asked it. "How is this balanced?" while getting killed in the fourth salvo that actually really hit him. Not that that makes this a good ship design, but he was lucky as F he didn't get deleted by one of the first ap salvoes that were fired at him behind that first island. This will be one of those ships you can only play passively and hope that the enemy makes mistakes while you make none. Also, you will need a team that is good enough, because carrying in this will be almost impossible. (unless you can get early dds because they f..ed up.) Edit: Plus, this was a top tier battle.
@Flambass : What are that "bad angles" you are talking about? The only "angles" are the firing angles, and that means where the turrets can point the guns. What you mean is shell ballistics, and those are fine to shoot DDs at short to med range, and everything else that lets you target their side armour ... because SAP will happily pen the "magic" bow/stern armour, light cruiser armour, BBs upper belt armour, and arm through all of them ... so no overpens, just juicy penetration damage. Obviously, this ship is not an ATLANTA on steroids ... no med range HE spam to set them on fire ... and no shells shattering on the deck armour of the targets, because you won't hit deck armour.
You mentioned you couldn't get any targets to shoot at, well it is nice to see that even you have the same experience I have 90% of the matches I play. Every time I watch a video from the main youtubers, the enemy acts like their entire reason for being is to be shot by them and it is so frustrating to almost never have that happen when I play.
It's the fact the torpedoes have to clear the deck. Pointed that far forwards, the inboard tube can't really clear the torpedo that far forwards over the deck :P I don't mind the tubes having "not apex" clearance

When you opened up on that Moskva, you literally had your front guns reloaded the instant the rear ones fired. Proper "MG42, but it's a ship"-moment XD
10:11 67980 damage 13:05 189555 damage No torpedo hits, no citadels. In 2 minutes and 44 seconds he did 121575 damage that could effectively not be prevented. WG approved balance.
I believe at this point, all the tests are only conducted to see if there are bugs or glitches on the ship. Once it works 100%, they ditch the balance and slide it into the release queue.
"Unlimited number of charges for the "Main Battery Reload Booster" consumable and rather low survivability will form special "ragged" gameplay for the ship during the entire battle." DevBlog (11/30/20) The temptation to overextend and use that daka will be strong, especially as the gun angles and lack of radar make lobbing over islands from concealment untenable. It is balanced, just not in an orthodox way.
Now everyone will spend money to play the ship as soon as possible. Once the money stops coming in there will be a nerfand a year from now bigg nerf to reloder to make it useless. That's pretty much their business model.
It's not that bad to play against, the high velocity of the shells means you can't arc it over islands out of sight, in order to be melted like the moskva and Yamatos, you'd need to show broadside for the special AP, otherwise the damage drops off. Because you can't fire in safety, every second longer the engagement lasts, the more risky it is. With the light cruiser armor, you're a frontline glass cannon, once you start doing damage, people will focus fire your ship and melt you. You'd have to be really good at positioning, taking advantage of the enemy focusing on your team mates in order to use this ship to its full potential, even then, you'll spend more than most of the start hiding behind an island like Flambass did. While its guns have rapid fire and high velocity, ideal for killing destroyers, there's no radar which means you'd have to close in with hydro to force out DDs. Sounds like a fun cruiser with a high skill ceiling.
There was one of these on the other team the other day; I had heard about the Austin and wanted to see what it was like so I basically sacrificed my FdG to it. Yeah, it was not pleasant.
Good thing you can't just camp closely behind islands that well cause pushing into that with the reload booster active is a nightmare if you don't have a chance to hit it back.

Stern and bow are 25mm, sure, but everyone will probably agree with me that hitting those places is not easy at all (Petro have enormous 25mm bow, use that info however you want) and they are not consistent sources of dmg. Also we can see very clear in the vid that those shells hit almost exclusively superstructure, cuz Flambass intentionally aimed for that part

It's the ultimate feast or famine ship, Flambass got to feast this time but next game he'll be on Mountain Range or some other map with garbo island waifus and bow on enemies who'll blap him like the T10 Atlanta he is.

To be fair, he seems to laugh most about the DMG output (when you can apply it) rather than the ship as a whole. I think the amount of CD based gimmicks and insande damage output we see on the Austin will pop up far more in the future. They don't throw the frog in the boiling water.

Not to mention she is massive, lack radar and has torps that are more of a joke than anything.

I dont think, this thing is so unbelievable broken. I mean look at the facts, you have 2k less HP then a Smoly, while you actually eat citadels like Mino and nearly don't produce Ricos and all without smoke like the other 2 mentioned before.
Yes it has an insanely firepower while you use the reload boost, but in normal mode with 7sec reload ... not so much.
So all in all, this thing will be worthless for 90 - 95% of the players, cause they don't know how to handle this Ship. It just seems so OP in the hands of realy good players. But with todays playerbase you will see this thing normaly blow up faster then you can say Hans get the Flammwerfer.

I think the bad angles is due to these 5 inch guns having a much higher shell velocity (with them being 54 calibers long iirc compared to the 38 caliber length of the Atlanta's guns)

Well, it's not. It's an Atlanta with no radar for the most of the game, but then it can be 4 Atlantas every once in a while when you need it to be. Not sure if it's really that OP, because it's frail and situational.

To those wondering why Austin ballistics seem to be balanced AF, lets compare it to a cousin -- Colbert. Both are 127mm smokeless AA cruisers, only one is inherently better then the other.
Colbert -- 808m/s muzzle, 32.5kg shell, 0.3079 drag.
Austin -- 808m/s, 31.75kg *0.21* drag
So yeah, Austin has literally 1/2 drag value of Colbert, meaning shell retain speed much better and as such has shell travel time almost the same as Smolensk.

Well "this is balance" because you have managed to live long enough to utilize the reload booster and not suicided on 4th minute like your typical 48% Joe. The best damage output was reached on 2 broadsiding ships within 10 km, until then the damages was shit.

People whine about thundere because it is a HE spamming BB with insane firing range and good accuracy. In Austin, if you misposition yourself - you will die in a second. So stop judging ships after on video with a unicum player utilizing its strengths.

Looks like I picked a good month to stop sniffing WoWs glue.
His Question at the end was basically answered at the same time he asked it. "How is this balanced?" while getting killed in the fourth salvo that actually really hit him. Not that that makes this a good ship design, but he was lucky as F he didn't get deleted by one of the first ap salvoes that were fired at him behind that first island. This will be one of those ships you can only play passively and hope that the enemy makes mistakes while you make none. Also, you will need a team that is good enough, because carrying in this will be almost impossible. (unless you can get early dds because they f..ed up.)

@Flambass : What are that "bad angles" you are talking about? The only "angles" are the firing angles, and that means where the turrets can point the guns.
What you mean is shell ballistics, and those are fine to shoot DDs at short to med range, and everything else that lets you target their side armour ... because SAP will happily pen the "magic" bow/stern armour, light cruiser armour, BBs upper belt armour, and arm through all of them ... so no overpens, just juicy penetration damage.
Obviously, this ship is not an ATLANTA on steroids ... no med range HE spam to set them on fire ... and no shells shattering on the deck armour of the targets, because you won't hit deck armour.
This channel turned into such a nest of negativity lately.

You mentioned you couldn't get any targets to shoot at, well it is nice to see that even you have the same experience I have 90% of the matches I play. Every time I watch a video from the main youtubers, the enemy acts like their entire reason for being is to be shot by them and it is so frustrating to almost never have that happen when I play.

This is terrifying can confirm. Found myself head to head with one in a zao, melted within 15 seconds.
I believe at this point, all the tests are only conducted to see if there are bugs or glitches on the ship. Once it works 100%, they ditch the balance and slide it into the release queue.

The temptation to overextend and use that daka will be strong, especially as the gun angles and lack of radar make lobbing over islands from concealment untenable.
It is balanced, just not in an orthodox way.
Now everyone will spend money to play the ship as soon as possible. Once the money stops coming in there will be a nerfand a year from now bigg nerf to reloder to make it useless. That's pretty much their business model.
It's not that bad to play against, the high velocity of the shells means you can't arc it over islands out of sight, in order to be melted like the moskva and Yamatos, you'd need to show broadside for the special AP, otherwise the damage drops off. Because you can't fire in safety, every second longer the engagement lasts, the more risky it is. With the light cruiser armor, you're a frontline glass cannon, once you start doing damage, people will focus fire your ship and melt you. You'd have to be really good at positioning, taking advantage of the enemy focusing on your team mates in order to use this ship to its full potential, even then, you'll spend more than most of the start hiding behind an island like Flambass did. While its guns have rapid fire and high velocity, ideal for killing destroyers, there's no radar which means you'd have to close in with hydro to force out DDs. Sounds like a fun cruiser with a high skill ceiling.
