Stoichiometry Made Easy: Stoichiometry Tutorial Part 1

  • This is a whiteboard animation tutorial of how to solve simple Stoichiometry problems. Stoichiometry ('stoichion' means element, 'metron' means measure) is a method of converting from amounts of one chemical in a chemical reaction to amounts of another chemical in the same chemical reaction. Stoichiometry is a lot like determining the amounts of ingredients needed in cooking. This is my first tutorial in the series.

    Sorry, but when you start just throwing numbers in front of your NH2 (or NH3) and your 3H2.... it looks like you're just pulling numbers out of your butt. Is there some logic you're following?

    • @ketzbook
      @ketzbook  7 лет назад +194

      Yes, there is some logic...it's called balancing chemical reactions/equations. This video is not intended to teach balancing, so you should look up a separate video on that. Balancing is a more basic chemistry skill that must be learned prior to stoichiometry. However, this video does explain how this reaction is balanced. You need the number of each element to be the same on both sides of the equation. The number of an element can be calculated by multiplying the coefficient (big number in front) by the subscript. Only coefficients can be changed when balancing.
      The 2 in front of NH3 is put there because there are two nitrogen atoms on the left in N2, so you need two nitrogen atoms on the right in 2NH3. That now means you have six (2 x 3) hydrogen atoms on the right, so you also need to put a 3 in front of H2 to get six hydrogen atoms on both sides.

      Try the following simulation to help yourself learn how to balance a reaction.:

      Holaa Jesus is coming back soon! I’m telling you, only 1 name gives life: JESUS! 2 or 3 years ago i was depressed and suicidal and one day when on tiktok I encountered the love of JESUS. The Unconditional saving love of Jesus. You see, we are all sinners, the Bible says it, in “Rom 8;28: For all have sinned amd fallen short of the glory of God” we have all at some point in our life turned away from God, but god does not want us to be separate from him. You, God is holy and a righteous person who lives in heaven and made all and most imporgantly cares for all.("1Peter: Cast all your cares upon Him, for He (God) cares for you" have strayed form Him into the devils trap of temptation to sin, which we will all one day be judged for . I beg you, please turn away from sin, becaue it will send your soul to hell. So , you see the result of sin is death and eternal separation form the goodness of God, which is a terrible matter, because this leaves us with the fire and wrath of hellfire. Thats why Jesus died. The only son of the living God ,Jesus Christ loved you enough to give His life for you, so that instead of dying, you would be saved and obtain a place in Heaven, not by your good works, but by the works of christ himself. (Jn 3 :16 For God so loved the worñd tjat He gave His One and Only begotten Son, tnat whomsoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life") . This is applicable only if you repent of your sins!, which i beg you to do.

    ID: 00404 Chemistry is like cooking because there is a constant ratio that was being followed. When we needed to find out how much of one element was needed in the equation, we referred back to the grilled cheese problem and used the same idea. Along with this, the balanced equation acted as a recipe that allowed us to figure our the required amount of element.

  • @kirashort1895
    @kirashort1895 7 лет назад

    In chemistry, various chemical reactions are able to tell people the ratio of elements needed in order to make a specific reaction occur. Cooking is highly similar to this because recipes also require certain ratios of ingredients to prepare a final dish.

    An interesting thing about stoichiometry is not all compounds are stoichiometric. Oxides and sulfides of most metals are non-stochiometric. To a rough.approximation they seen to be stiochiometric. However they don't obey the law of definite proportions exactly. Oddly these compounds were where the idea of stoichiometry came from.
    For instance ferrous sulfide is supposed to be FeS. It is more like Fe.95S to FeS.95. The early chemists did not have equipment accurate enough to notice these differences.i

    chemistry is like cooking because the ratio of the recipe mimics the reaction and its balanced equations. when you're trying to solve a reaction you measure out the element of the recipe like you would the reactants in the balanced equation, 00418

    Chemical reaction is like a recipe because the reactants are like the ingredients, and the products is like finished meal. Also in a recipe you need a certain amount of ingredients to make a certain meal, just like how a chemical reaction needs a certain amount of reactants to make a certain product.
