Mike, regarding t&g pine do yourself a favor start downstairs to make a easy transition between floors
One of the reasons I watch your channel is to pick up tips with tractor and grading work. Just by watching. The great camera angles help too.
Keep it up Mike!
Good evening from Upstate South Carolina. Mike, Mike, Mike. Use the adaptive cruise control. Have a great day.
That stuff is a breeze to put up but man if it's not a pain to stock upstairs. All the diffrent lengths make you restack it as you carry it. Still the way to go!
I'm glad you enjoyed your trip to my neck of the woods and trilled to know some Michigan made and grown red pine T&G will adorn the cabin walls. You may have to invest in a molder/shaper for that developing blue stain pine in the wood yard. Looking forward to the work at the cabin.
Mike, I'm 71yr old and still learn every day. Always keep your mind and eyes open. Regards from Australia
71 here too. I always said, if you can't learn something new every day, might as well start digging the hole!
@@bluegrallis I'm 83, and agree; Cheers!
A tools check list is handy to use for out-of-town work trips. I enjoy your channel.
Mike I was just watching your video and realized I didn’t see any fire extinguisher around at the wood yard. Maybe you have some just not seen or maybe you just haven’t thought about it. Couldn’t hurt to be prepared.
Congrats on the 34 yrs together it'll be 48 for us 52 total dated for 4 yrs, love you guys
I sorta figured the rough sanded would get changed. Its gonna look great and less work to do. I like it.
Mike your video yesterday was very informative . It is like hardwood flooring. I figured you were going to use it in the cabin. I like the fact that it is interlocking on the ends. I wish you would do what you said you were going to do a few years ago. You told everyone that you would show how you make the Firestarter. I live in N.E.WASHINGTON I am disabled. That is something that I could do and sell in much smaller bags to all of the camp grounds around me to help me get by. You could send me a private message or video.
Hey Mike, as someone who has installed wood siding for 16 years, do not start the T&G upstairs. Start at the bottom and go up. Otherwise you will have a difficult time at the stairwell where downstairs meets upstairs.
I agree
Always bottom and up
Bottom up Mike
@morgansunleashed tell him Melissa
@@RamblinRoadies I agree! Mike, start at the bottom & work your way up. If you don't want to do all the bottom area, at least do all the walls where the staircase is located, which would then allow you to keep the alignment of the panelling going to the upstairs.
I put up the same stuff in my Man cave garage… pre finished and end matched. The difference is I went with 8” wide. The stuff looks great and goes up quick. I live in West Michigan and have 21 acres of mainly Red pine. I think it was planted as part of the CCC project that Roosevelt started in 1933 they are planted in rows and look pretty cool.
Hi Mike and family, for 9 years I worked in a furniture factory, (I'm a qualified cabinmaker), plus, 12 years as a maintenace carpenter, then 13 years in charge of the maintenace workshop and 22 people covering 6 different trakes, so, I'm well aware of the need to ensure when you go somewhere to do some work, you need to make sure you have the tools you need with you. You are a practical person like me, so I was told this tip by an old-time carpenter, and it works. Make a list with the heading of what you are going to do, then, while doing the task in your head, write down the steps of what you are going to do and what tools/items you will need to carry out those steps from the start to the finish. Yes, like a check list or as they would call it now-a-days, a flowchart. Then, come the time to get things ready, you just work through the list of things making sure they're in/on your vehicle. If by chance you missed adding a tool/item, then just add it to the list for next time. Oh, 😂😂😂I get accused of driving to slow as well, but that is usually by people, like Mellssa, who are a lead foot. (Insert racing car emoyi). Keep safe and well.
Mike...
You're absolutely amazing ! Have you stopped lately and thought about all the "irons" you have in the fire ? I realize that no one has the attention to detail that you have... but you have a concrete floor to pour in the pavilion, an addition to the pavilion to shelter equipment, a floor to pour, and a kiln to build, a cabin, bath house, and connecting hallway to finish, a pond to clean out, and you've talked about another larger wood shed plus a barn out in the clearing !!! You're just amazing !!! Take care Mike... stay healthy !!!
how to eat an elephant? one bite at a time he loves this stuff it will be fine
You have to realize It's all content for his channel. He needs to mix it up so it don't get boring. I'm pretty much invested in this channel & have respect this family.
lol I like the way Melissa was giving it to you but you’re driving. That funny. Take care u two😂😂
Good morning. I'm from southwest Michigan, we call that the northern lower, have a good day.
Mike...
I live about 30 Miles north of Comins , when you go around to different stores, restaurants Etc, you can see they have assorted brands of t&g pine interiors,,
the minute you walk in you can immediately pick out The Woodworkers Shop's product. Its that much better looking IMO.. we have put it in 2 of our home rooms and love it
you picked the right stuff
My second post. I was reading the comments and saw one you should follow. Start your paneling down stairs. Otherwise, you’re run into trouble on the stairwell as mentioned. Terry&ThePirates South Florida
Mike, I really want a mini-skid, love that thing!
Also, I have been to Cabelas in Dundee and have crossed that bridge in Toledo many times. I gotta say as an Ohio resident ( I may catch some guff) northern Michigan is beautiful country. I have spent many vacation days and dollars from Ludington to Empire and Alpena to the Mackinac Bridge. Thanks for this follow up to the lumber milling video, Loved it!!
Hi Mike & Melissa. Marriage is a learning process. You think you know " everything." Until you " don't" know everything about your spouse. My best friend enjoys the Plain Party Mix at Tractor Suppy stores. Usually one of his " Christmas present" too. I wondered that was the " major change of the cabin." I saw the tongue & groove. I wondered you would go the decision. I thought. It will be a lot time sanding each finished boards. I was ok w/ it. I did a lot of wood projects that took time. It was worth the effort. Thanks Mike & Melissa. Say Hi to Eva, Hunter, Levi, Tyler, & Hannah. Have a good Thrusday the 5th everyone. 🥰🙂😉👍❤️💜🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🌲
Great decision on lumber. 50 yrs for us. Melissa's feedback 👍👍👍
Hello! 😊 Regarding the, "squeak"; get an inspection mirror and a strong light and look carefully behind the front idler where it passes close to the track frame. There is probably a small piece of crushed stone trapped in there. This happens a lot on my mini-excavator and is aggravating. To get it out try one of those pick up tools with the retractable claws on the end or try to break it up with a pin punch and hammer.
Hello back!
@@johnsadler8637 Hi John! ⛳
in NZ we talk about cubic metres of timber when we are talking bulk lots. So packs of timber are say 2.5 cubic metres and its almost always radiata pine
That little story at the beginning of this video was great. 🙂
I just love the banter between the two of you. It always puts a smile on my face. You remind me of my parents a lot. They were married for 65 years.
I always look forward to your videos. 👍
Every day is a school day, that's why we watch outdoors with the Morgan's. Gratitude from the North East England.
Listen and learn and always ask questions of why and how, it is very beneficial for life skills. You are a blessed man.
Hello Morgan’s. Mike you are absolutely right. That operation was not like any other sawmill operation I’ve ever seen! Just like you said, it was absolutely the most organized operation I’ve ever seen! The layout was amazing! Thank you for sharing that video. Very informative, and showed the American working man! Loved it, thanks again. God bless you and your family! Stay safe! Bye.
I have used at least 10 of those bundles on my own projects, the best tongue and groove on the market. The finish is perfect!
Make a list of things to take and add to it as you think of other things that you need to take to the cabin.
Mike You do excellent carpentry work! You are always conscience of what you are doing and you work toward excellence! I’m almost as good as you! I learned carpentry from my grandfather but I’m not a carpenter! Because they work circles around me. I’m slow but I try to build stuff right and where it will last a long time! Great video Mike! God bless you and your family! 🙏🙏🙏❤️
Thanks Mike !! Loved the video!! Thanks for taking the time to record so We All Can Enjoy!
Keep Smiling On!!
😅👍👊❤️
Fall feeling in the air
Here in Scotland we call stained wood like that Spalted and its very popular among wood turners and furniture makers.
Congrats, my wife and I celebrated 42 years this August I afraid that it's becoming a rare thing anymore
47 years here. still Wonderful!!!!
43 years for us Aug 1, and i'm predictable also! LOL
41 years here this year. My late unlce passed this spring at 96. They were married 69 years!
Congrats, 43 years for us July 11th. I outkicked my coverage.
@@randalldavis5063 54 years with my spouse, went by fast
Loved your tour of the Mill in Michigan. North of the bridge is referred to as the UP or Upper Michigan. So you were in Central Michigan. I used to live in Sarnia , Ontario, just opposite of Michigan in the Canadian side.
Loved your tour and learned a bunch about 100 inch Pine! 🇨🇦
Michiganders refer to it as the Northern Lower as in the north part of the Lower Peninsula. You were at the north end of the St. Clair River. I fish for Walleye at the south end of the river.
North of Saginaw and South of the Mackinac Bridge is considered Northern Michigan. North of the bridge is the Upper Peninsula. East of the center line of the lower part and south of Saginaw river is he**
Good morning Mike & Melissa! And don't worry, Melissa, you are in very good company. My wife, and I am pretty sure most of them, would say the same thing about 85% of what we do. Looking forward to that blue stained red pine, Mike!
MIKE, just a reminder for the trip to the cabin.
Throw some #10 envelopes in the glove box to make your list of tools and stuff you'll need! ( Oh, and a #2 pencil also!!!)
You came to Michigan a little early. Sheetz locations are opening up over the next few months. The first location outside of Metro Airport (just west of Detroit) just opened last week. There is supposed to be one within 10 miles of me by the end of the year.
I love when my wife predicts and tells me to lol, 32 years for us, it is fun!
Mike it’s great watching you and Melissa interact. My wife and I have been married almost 38 years, she’s my best friend and life is a lot of fun with her.
I love blue stain pine, absolutely beautiful after you poly finish it! I have a friend that has a hunting camp with a beautiful cabin in comins on 270 acres! I remember going up there 30 years ago building his pond, they owned the excavating company I worked for! Beautiful area up there
HA … YEP …I GUESSED A CHANGE FOR THE CABIN … CONGRATS!
The beautiful I-280 bridge over the Maumee River in Toledo, you can see the Sun Oil refinery in the background. There was a major construction accident there when that bridge was being built.
Mike the only long wood we haul in Michigan is generally telephone poles.😊
Thats pretty interesting about the red pine and how they measure their timber!. Congrats on 34 years of marriage!.
Although they are allowed to carry much more weight, their roads were in terrible condition the last time I was in Michigan. I used to work for Accuride, maker of those large truck rims. A lot of them went to Michigan. I really enjoy your tour videos. Thank you for taking us along.
Great stuff. 57 yoa and I love watching others to learn more! Thanks Mike!
Hi guys, my wife and I have celebrated our 49th this year. It can be a challenge but for me it has been worth it. Wouldn’t change a thing.
57 years married and at my cabin about 100 miles south of yours. Installing six new windows and only going home tomorrow because the wife has a doctor’s appointment Wednesday. Life is good as long as you have your health and stay busy.
Mike, make your marriage happier when traveling and use that Free Option on the vehicles called a cruise control, yes you can use it when towing. I have nearly 250,000 miles on my 93 F-350. Steady speed of the cruise will improve your mileage and keep the road steady....Cannot wait to see the cabin with new t&g!!!
CRUISE CONTROL!!!! Not affected by music or podcasts. You’re welcome.
But it is affected by a slow car in front of you, and will slow itself down to maintain a preset distance. So, if you're focused on a podcast it's easy to not even realize it's happening.
@@python3574except the truck has adaptive cruise control
I’d let her drive. All bases covered.
He may have adaptive cruise control and if you don't disable it you automatically will slow to the speed of the vehicle in front of you. I'm not a fan of it, but I guess it doesn't bother other people as bad as it dose me.
@@python3574 I'm sure his newer vehicles have adaptive.
My wife and I are on 39 years, oh yea we know each other well
Melissa is a hoot. We shop like yall. She goes her way and I go off by myself and she gets so aggravated when i tell her im in the truck whenever shes finished shopping. Share some trail cam pics when you check them. I checked mine Friday and I have a few nice bucks. Hopefully daughter Shelby can can get one down. Season opens this Saturday. Good luck and stay safe everybody
Congratulations on the 34 years of marriage, that is great! Wishing you two another 34 years.
GOOOOOOD
MORNING & HAPPY LABOR DAY EVERYONE!!!….Mike & Melissa y’all are a hoot! Glad you get along better with Mikes driving than my fiancé likes mine…NOT!!!
Mike, nice tease on the indoor siding . Betcha it’s RED “blue stained” Pine!! 😂😂😂
Thanks for the video
Have a day
HELLOOOO HUNTER 😊
Hiya Jack! Hope your Labor Day is … labor-free!
@@johnsadler8637 lol 😂
Figure the odds… but after the project of the day is done… there will be a celebration of sorts 👍🏻😁
Good morning Mike and Melissa, Love your conversations together ❤.
Can't wait to see the start at mini cabin. Happy labor day everyone.
You are going to have to build a shop at the cabin, and stock it with tools so you have them at both locations. Another great video series 😀
morning mike. make a check list and print up several copies, scatter them about and when the inspiration hits, jot it down on a nearby list while still fresh in your mind. once a week update all copies til you get a complete check list of what you need for the job.
Mike, when are you doing the breezeway between the cabin and the shower room. I don't think I missed you doing that. Wouldn't you want that done before you put the T&G on the first floor walls so you don't have to cut through it?
AWESOME!
Tis a smart man who allows himself to learn every day! Seeing how other people solve the problems in their lives/work/hobbies is the best part of using RUclips.
Just make sure you start at the bottom so that you have the tongue to nail into. 35 years a journeyman cabinetmaker starting from the top would be tough to match up to coming down the stairs.
Here in the south it's yellow pine and after it's cut it's sold by the ton.
Good Morning Morgan Family 🌞- Have a Wonderful and Blessed Day 🤠
I love your open minded approach to life in general. New people offer new ideas and sometimes better ways of doing things. You are an inspiration. Keep it up. Greetings from SE South Dakota!
Greetings OWTM, from Colorado Springs. Doing the Plains crossing today, destination Western Ozarks farm. Probably arriving late!
Blue stained pine results from 'ips' bark beetle infestations, which usually kills the infected trees, and thus complicates the milling of the lumber. In earlier times it was always sold as down-graded lumber.
Wow that Cabela’s in Dundee is very close to my house
Blue stain pine is a result of a fungus that develops on freshly cut pine. Blue stain pine has been a thing here in Oregon for decades and was at first thought to be caused by pine beetles, we have an infestation across the central & eastern part of our states pine forests. The dead standing beetle infested pine is naturally blue and with the addition of the beetle bore holes and runs it’s a fantastic looking finish for rustic look as you scan sand it smooth and it retains the rustic look. As a result of it’s abundance it’s relatively cheap..
Time is the one thing we cannot make more of. The red pine you have is nice stuff, but the time you'll save with the prefinished as well as the finished ends should really help
I have heard you say many things about red pine, and I've always scratched my head about it. Being from NW Montana that all we have for the most part. I live by different strokes for different fokes. Life goes on. It's good to see your horizons are expanding. 👍✨️
Happy Labor Day from Castalia, Ohio!!
Good morning Mike and Melissa. Living in southeast Michigan and going what we call up north. I was in the same area of Michigan on Wednesday baiting for the bear season in 2 weeks. We have passed by the sawmill in the past and I said I have to check it out. I will be going there now that I have seen your video. Can’t wait!
We consider anything above the Bay City area as Up North.

That's Amazing Mike You were at Cabela's in Dundee Mi. just down the road from me, Glad you had a good & knowledgeable time in MI. The tongue and groove will look great in your cabin and save many hours of time.👍👍
Mike, can hardly wait to see the interior of the cabin with the tongue and groove 😮😊❤
Dundee Michigan!!!, I never thought you guys will ever drive by the neighbourhood. please come back again..👍😊
Hey Mike - proud Michigander here! "Northern Michigan" refers to the northern lower peninsula. "Upper Michigan" is the Upper Peninsula (Da U.P. eh?), Nice vids!
Good move on the prefinished wood Mike. You would have spent weeks on finishing all of the bevels and get a final product that looks like what you bought. I've got a cabin up in northern Garrett County. Your place is not far from there. I've been going down there since the fifties. Love it down there.
That's the first Cabela's I ever went to, and I've been there many times since. I might have been there for their grand opening. Too bad I live in Indiana and cannot buy everything I want being out of state.
When we built our home all of the t&g pine was prefinished. The only way to go!!!!!!!
Drove by that Cabelas this morning at 6:30 am on the way back to NC
Did I miss the second video on the wood working shop?
You are a lucky man, Mike Morgan!
Mike and Melissa Glad you enjoyed Michigan. Northern is correct. Used some of their products and sure is nice stuff.
Always fun to drive together. When I'm driving on the Autobahn (no speed limit), my wife's quiet and hold's on to the handles so her knuckles becomes white.
Yeah, in the past Red Pine wasn't considered for much. The government planted a bunch, from what I understand, and you would see stands of Red Pine here and there that no one ever touched. I mentioned previously, back when you first showed us the cabin, that when we were kids, we had a stand of Red Pine in our area that we called the school forest, because it was all these rows of trees in straight lines. It's good that they have developed some uses for it, otherwise when it grows all close together and in rows like that nothing much grows underneath.
I’m always learning from you and your family (videos) we r kinda in the same situation down here in STX, on our 40/160 acres
Good morning, Morgan's! Thanks for the video. Quite a few of your car ride/shopping scenarios are the same for us, too. Have a great day!!
Good Morning Mike and Melissa, I can relate to your comment about my wife knowing me better than I do. We have been, like you two, been married for 35 plus years and like you two said, the wife knows the husband better than the husband. I totally agree. Take care and Happy Labor Day! Tell Hunter to have a Great Day Also!
Mike, be careful with the squeak. My neighbor had the same machine and that’s how her problems started. Just an occasional squeak that became progressively worse
i thought i already posted this so if it shows up twice sorry..
you will love the end matched T/G which is prefinished. as a retired builder in northern michigan we have done 10-12 homes with this product. just use your cordless nailer with 18ga. 2" brads and you will have a great install with hidden fasteners. you may have a few exposed fasteners in trim areas but those can be easily filled. if it's beneficial I could e mail you several pics of past jobs. just let me know via e mail if needed. but I'm betting you already have this install figured out.
Congratulations Mike and Melissa on your anniversary. My wife Linda and I celebrated our 50th anniversary this past June. Now to the subject of the day, good video today. Saw the one yesterday for your trip to northern Michigan.
Mike, remember when giving location in Michigan, it's the only state you can use your hand as a map. lol.
