Martin recently told me over lunch that he offered the first 17’ telescoping whip to the market. Reflect on what that simple act did for subsequent innovation in portable operation. I too will miss MFJ Enterprises. But I’ll also be happy that my good friend will no longer receive the slurs about his company, his name, and his ethnicity from sad hams. Martin grew up in Hollandale Misandrist has only visited China once, to take an elderly aunt to see family before she passed. Thanks for the great feedback Frank. No reason for humans to not be humane. In the Land of Fla, you can also use your sailboat as a remote repeater. And second story townhouses give you a great place to set a half square, where you feed it from the corner of a second story window. The Trash Can trick works well for tuners and junction points as you explained. A garden hose easily fits a snake antenna, and an "Orange Cord" doesn't always have to be used for power. After all, an "orange Cord" is SUPPOSED to be outside. All the Best! 73 DE W8LV Bill
I liked MFJ product lineup. They had quite an assortment of ham related products. Why people didn’t care for them is that some of their products had quality control issues.
I bought the MFJ 225 VNA/antenna analyzer, and have used it many years, including at work. While it is limited to 170 MHz, it did everything I needed it to do! But they also had newer equipment that also rivaled the 'professional' guys, but the cost was lower than the 'professional' grade equipment.
Some HOAs have relaxed their "no antenna" rules, especially in light of the FCC's OTARD Rule which prohibits unreasonable restrictions on antenna installations. This rule ensures that homeowners can install antennas for TV, satellite, and certain fixed wireless services without unreasonable delays or costs. Ham radio is, after all, an emergency service.
As much MFJ equipment I have purchased new and used over the years, I am surprised they quit the business! And I have never understood the bad feelings some people held for the products. ANYONE can buy a dud, and it doesn't take much to correct the problem. In my case, I have bought two old SWR bridges, and in each case, the battery holders were corroded by someone not pulling the dead cells out, and keeping their equipment up to snuff. But I am so glad I do not have to worry about an HOA, even though I live next to one, if they try to bother me, I get out my firearms and start having target practice. My neighbor likes to use tannerite targets, it wakes up the HOA Karens quickly, but they can't say BOO about it!
@@HOAHamRadio Sadly, I believe people will be missing the MFJ equipment sooner than later! And it was MFJ who was able to bring new technology to the ham market at reasonable cost. The used market may dry up quickly now, and the cost of it will only go up!
@@HOAHamRadio no, I am not talking about the computer software behind you. I thought the collapsed whip ABOVE your head was a whip+tuner, but see now that it is probably just a whip + ground stake mount. Thanks anyway.
As I was putting the bucket in the trashcan and that AC fan was buzzing in my ear, I was thinking, "hmmmm, how much stray RF am I gonna pick up from that?" Surprisingly, my noise floor was not different from what it usually is....I was surprised.
As a Bavarian it's quite hard to understand these HOA-regulations. How many cars I'm allowed to on my driveway, how high the lawn has to be mowed and when, what kind of christmas decoration I use or the whole antenna topic... Maybe it's not the country of the free... 🤔

I think my trash can it’s going to surgery!!!! I love that! I hope I don’t grab the wrong trash can next go around!!
I thought the same thing; mine look different enough that unless I'm sleep walking, I should grab the correct one.

@@Krispin291 Ah, thanks for that. I'll keep the vids coming; I have more ideas than I have time.
4:15 I love the nosey neighbor in the background "just letting the dog out" while totally not checking in on what you are doing...
Happens all the time in the HOA : )
HOA = Karen village

Hmmmm...orange extension cord; now you've got me thinking of what I can do with that!

They certainly had a lot of offerings; I'm sure some of them missed the mark. We are gonna miss them.

LOL on the tannerite, sounds fun. Glad to see another who was a fan of MFJ. Thanks for the view and comment.

Great video, not in a HOA here, but love the ideas
You get it, ideas; just trying to help people think and realize they have options.
Do you have a review on your channel of the antenna-tuner that appears directly above your head in this video ? Thank you for your content !
I think you must be talking about the computer software that is behind me; no, I do not have a video on this yet, but I do intend to in the future.

My pleasure as always.
Any interference from A/C unit?

For sure, this is a concept foreign to anyone outside the USA. Thanks for the view and comment.
