  • Today I will show you how to decoupage fabric onto clear glass plates for a very simple and cute Holiday cookie plate for my friends and family. I will be using dishwasher safe Mod Podge and it takes 28 days to cure. After the cure time these will be dishwasher safe on the top rack. These treat plates are very fast to make and very easy. Kids will love this project. The only downside is the drying time! I hope you give these a try and thanks for watching!

Hi! He’s absolutely correct on the curing time. There is NO sticky feel if they cure properly. I made these in October last year for Christmas, and they were perfect. Everyone loved them. I added a care instruction note taped to the back of the plate. I advised ‘a quick hand wash and complete air dry’, because my dishwasher is a beast I trust to get ‘everything ‘ off!!

I made plates for my halloween dinner last year. i made 25 plates with different halloween themed fabrics. everyone wanted to know where I bought the plates and when I told them I made all of them, they immediately wanted me to make them a set. New business? LOL! Anyway, I love this craft because you can make your plates match any tablescape theme. I do bake my plates to cure them. Much better and way faster than air curing. Great instruction video by the way!!

Excellent video! I made over 100 for Christmas gifts last year. I used a dremel to clean up the edges of the plates. (fine grit). I also used a Mod Podge stiff bristle brush to smooth the fabric down for the first coat which keeps the glue off your hands. If you find that some of the Mod Podge has dried on to the front of the plate, rubbing alcohol softens the glue and makes it easier to scrape off the dried on glue.

Love this vid. I did watch another one it was ok and I got the just of it. I have a couple of tips.
I used a lazy Susan with a can on it, it made getting the edges a lot easier. I dried mine over my heat vents. I used the regular mod podge so when I was done I used a clear sealent just for extra protection in case the back got slightly wet. I hope that helps anyway. I also cut the excess material away so it was easier to work with.
    Thank you!!

I just tried making a couple plates. One was a light plaid & the other a black background with white dots. It appears that dark fabric shows Mod Podge brush strokes through the glass side of the plate. They are less visible with lighter fabric. The plates have been drying for 24 hours. Are the brush strokes showing with the darker fabric a common issue or am I doing something wrong?

    • @ScrappyPatch

You can take a hair dryer or heat gun to the back and lightly go over it to get rid of them. Or just let them sit longer. They should go away.
