    Few things… when the honeymoon is over, I’d love to borrow it. Beautiful piece. That bracelet very reminiscent of the prior version Seastar. Butterfly clasp eliminates that micro-adjust option. The fixed bezel is a disappointment since I was assuming it was an inner rotating bezel. Beautiful watch though and looks well finished. The size is on the money for me.

    in my humble opinion, a gmt watch needs to have a date function on it.

    • @stuartcole4845
      @stuartcole4845 2 года назад +2

      Absolutely they require a date. I’ve never understood people complaining about a date on a GMT, especially if you cross the international date line.

      Isn't a GMT about MORE information being available at a glance? It seems to be counter intuitive to add a second time zone but then remove the date function from the watch. I agree that the execution of the date window could've been better. It's done the same way as on the 43mm version of the DS Action diver. I just think it doesn't quite work. They could've left off the lume pip at 3:00 on this one, as it doesn't have the ISO 6425 rating like the 43mm diver.

    The Rolex Explore II has fixed bezel and date ... and no one seems to complain about it. The bracelet on this particular model is as good as the one on Explorer II.

    I have the Pepsi version, swapped the heavy metal bracelet for a genuine navy-blue Certina NATO strap. Absolutely love my GMT.
    What you refer to as the "weird PVD-coated brown and green versions" are competing in the tactical watch category (Luminox, Traser, etc.) aimed at security and military users where the flash of stainless steel in light is something they want to avoid. The PVD Certinas are a classier Swiss alternative.

    Both Certina and Mido have so much potential. If only Swatch Group would give them a chance to shine more! I'm sure there are some young gun designer working for Certina (Swatch) that would love to have a free rein to create more. If Swatch broke loose and sold a few of their watch brands in the Group I'm certain they would do better. Of course they wouldn't have Daddy to bail them out if things went South.

    I got the Mido Ocean Star GMT and it doesn’t wear larger, in fact wears a little bit smaller. I really like this Certina, I’m a huge fan of the channel!

    I just bought the Certina DS Super ph500M from an AD in Dubai. It's 43mm but wears like a 41.5-42. It wears bigger on the nato but sinks into the wrist on a two piece. Im glad It has 20mm lug width and not the odd 21mm.

    Makes sense to set a standard, simple, size range across so many brands.
    You get used to something and then you like what you like and can mix between those brands w/o fuss.
    For majority user appeal, while keeping buying heat, it is a much better strategy.

    I agree with you both about the size and the inner bezel. It should have at least 2 sizes for options, 40mm and 43mm. The inner bezel should be rotatable, and maybe add the lume at 24hr number would be better.

    I love most of Certina watches. Love this one too. The only bummer is the low beat Powermatic 80. I prefer the smooth sweeping high beat movement over long hour power reserve.

    • @KabobHope
      @KabobHope 2 года назад +2

      I just got a Certina DS-4 with the hibeat 4 hz movement and it is as buttery smooth as I have seen short of a precisionist or Spring drive. I really like it and like you would take it over the extra hours of power reserve.

      @jimipane2013 2 года назад

      @@KabobHope Wow... You're the lucky one! I have been eyeing for the Certina DS4 small seconds for quite sometimes now. It's a must-have watch. 40mm case, textured dial, lumed hands and indices, great finishing, ETA 2824 high beat, 100m wr, priced at less than $350, just an unbeatable deal.

  • @rickj8859
    @rickj8859 6 месяцев назад

    The 21 mm lug width is well established throughout the watch industry. There are quite a few watch makes, incl. Jaeger Le Coultre, Longines etc. that make watches with that lug width. I get aligator leather straps in 21 mm from Italy and Germany for the same price as 20 mm width.
    The case size is 43 mm ... not that much different from 42 mm of Rolex Explorer 2. Personally, I think that 41 mm universal case size "for all watches" watches would be ideal, so that they can serve dual purpose as the sports watch and dress watch. And as well, there are women, who like to wear men's sports watches ... and Rolex knows that. That's why Daytona and Submariners were 40 mm and are now 41 mm dia.

    If Swatch can do AR like this for Certina why can't they do it for Hamilton?

  •  2 года назад +2

    Love Hi-Beat watches, but I'm also ok with 3Hz as well - love that Powermatic 80, and since I live in Brazil, I prefer something that I expect to have less maintenance. The fixed bezel reminds me of the Rolex Explorer, which I think is ok for the price point. Overall, I think it's a great piece, specially as a Traveler's GMT (adopting WatchChris's terminology here :-P), and given the chance, would definitely lay my hands on one of these.

    Well, the Swatch Group has a great "welcome" for everyone, with these five brands for the new aficionados: Mido, Hamilton, Certina, Tissot, Rado...
    Wow!, that is unbeatable!
    Saludos!!

    So what’s the diff between this and Mido Ocean Star? One seems twice as much as the other other.Def like the Mido better, looks, movement, Dial, bracelet-but costs twice as much, at least on gray market, otherwise about same price, so . . . have the Mido. Wears true to a little smaller to size, I would say.

    • @WatchChris

      Movement wise no difference. The mido has a rotating bezel the Certina doesn't... Basically that is the differences

    I always thought the powermaric was for 2824 types so maybe they did the old 2836GMT mod trick.
    Personally I can't stand the powermaric 80, I like the silicone hair spring, great.
    But you can't adjust the beat error at all needs to go back to the factory, you can only change the speed with the 2 screws on the balance so I doubt that will do anything to help adjust the poise, so instead of using the microajist screw at home you have to take it to a watchmaker.
    The worst thing is been changed from 21600 to 28,800.
    I understand 80 hours and a lower beat rate some may prefer but they should at least give the option.
