Welcome to my new channel! This video was originally posted on my old channel on 2021-10-24. Don’t be mad about the title, OK? 😂 Obviously FF3 is technically NOT the last RPG made by Square or the last RPG in the Final Fantasy series. I still stand by my analysis, though! As usual, I had to cut *so much stuff* from my initial draft to keep the video length manageable. The original version would’ve been 3 hours long and would’ve taken me months to edit lol. I worked really hard on this one, and I’m really happy with how it came out, though I’m always looking to do better and better with each video. If you have any questions or comments, let me know! And thanks for supporting me. 😍
With the Pixel Remaster breathing new life in this game, i dont get how this channel hasnt gotten much bigger. These videos are well produced and on par with other FF retrospectives I've seen. Keep up the good work, i hope your big break comes soon.
What a great video to watch after just beating the pixel remaster of FF3. I learned a lot about the original game from your video and appreciate the depth of your analysis.
I think he would have been a lot more memorable for sure! If I were to rewrite FFIII, I’d focus on the aspect of Xande seeing mortality as a curse and not a gift. I think there’s some very interesting ideas to explore there. To me, there’s a theme of sacrifice running like a thread through the story-with the villain being the one person who is so obsessed with the fear of death, he’s willing to destroy the world to avoid dying!
@@AltercateTV I was watching an LP for 3, and someone brought up that Dogu and Unei have monstrous forms, but Xande did not. I reckon Xande wasn't given mortality, but given humanity.
They’re quite different from each other! The PSP game is the 3D version, which rebalances the job system (mostly for the better), adds a bunch of story, and gives the heroes personalities. The PR is a very faithful remaster of the original game, but with a bunch of quality of life improvements. I have a review of the Pixel Remaster as well as a comparison video that compares the different versions on my “Spoiler Free Reviews and Recommendations” playlist if you’re interested :)
@@doublezeta2025 they're necessary to ME, the opening movie which showed them all with personalities, arguing and saving each other, that brought about a desire for TTRPGs and roleplay BEFORE I even knew it was a thing. Going back to what inspired the original final fantasy! That's what made it memorable, I've seen that opening movie countless times, the game sticks with me solely because of the extras! My healers in FF have always been called refia based on that chick even even in ff14! What an amazing thing they did expanding on the original game! And now it's gone... It's solely gameplay now... I want those side conversations they had... Hell why even okay ff3 when I can play bravely default for that experience with characters I care about and want to see???
The 3d version is really clunky, I don't recommend it. The pixel remaster is a lot more polished. The personality stuff in the 3d version is very minimal and doesn't add much
While FFI was heavily inspired by DND, FFIII - to me - plays exactly like a DND campaign: every story beat, the jobs, the inventory struggles, the spell system - everything
I don't think the game telking you what to do is a very valid criticism. You gotta think of the era it was made. Plenty of NES games give you zero information on what to do and would hang players up at the time forver. Castelvania 2 is a prime example. Within the constraints of the system I think they did an excellent job making accessible to progress.

That's very nice of you to say! I'll keep doing my thing :)
Currently binge watching your videos, thanks for putting all this work into them!
Thank you so much, that’s very kind of you to say :)

Glad you liked it! :)
Now, am I gonna play this next? or FFV?
You ever think Xande would have been a classic villain if he was better fleshed out?
I think he would have been a lot more memorable for sure! If I were to rewrite FFIII, I’d focus on the aspect of Xande seeing mortality as a curse and not a gift.

@@AltercateTV It's an interesting thought. Kinda makes me wish they kept this one for the snes era.

@@olympusgolemoflight7198 I think that interpretation makes sense! And nothing is more human than fear of death 😂
I thought of getting FF3 either pxel remaster or PSP version. Which is best?

3d gave each character personalities and names... I can't believe they didn't keep that

lol yeah it’s a pretty fair representation, isn’t it
"Aren't you alittle young for full contact?". "Aren't you alittle old for

🤣
thumbnail who?
Cloud of Darkness, the game's villain. The art used for the thumbnail comes from Dissidia Final Fantasy NT.

It was definitely par for the course for many games of the time 😂
