Best version of this pass I've seen. The added detail of putting his head out of alignment is magic.

I've been working on my Tozi Pass for the last month or so. Just implemented the head/spinal dis-alignment detail from this video today. Worked incredibly well, thank you! I got some grunts of discomfort from my training partner...great sign of a good pressure pass. Thank you!

I been doing this pass forever, noone showed it to me nor did I know the name for it. It was just something that always has worked for me..

Tall grappler here. I do sao Paolo pass all the time. Standing out of closed guard if difficult to defend a sweep for me. I normally land in ashi but it's still a sweep for them in comp. This looks like a great one to add to my toolbox. Thanks sir!

A fantastic counter when they really fight your sao-paolo pass - I love the option to go either way with my head. Thank you!

This right here is the answer to my BJJ-based prayers. As someone that loves running a pressure game, it would always make me sad trying to break a CG by posturing up & using my knee against the tailbone or going downward dog to shake loose. This LITERALY allows me to stick to my guns & use my game as a solution. CG just became a LOT less bothersome.

It's nice seeing the more advanced stuff, rather than just white belt versions of things that don't work against higher belts. I'm scoping out your content and I'm totally stoked to put it all into practice

Nice- do you have any tips if the guy is super flexiable? I used to do this pass but stopped when I couldn't do it on lighter-inversion type players

  • @trussmonkey5910

Looks good, but you're in his guard with your right arm over hooked. That's just asking to get arm bared. Are you doing anything to prevent that?

Sickest version ever! I've been playing around with the tozi/sau paulo pass a bit lately and I feel like it's going to end up being my go to thing from closed guard. Any idea why most gyms don't show this regularly or spend a lot of time on it? I have a training partner that comes from a wrestling back ground and he makes people suffer with this style of pass and he's been helping me drill it. Here's another variation he does that also has an ankle lock option : ruclips.net/video/nYkCNEQ-3Q4/видео.html
Why spend so much time and energy fighting for posture and making it a battle? If they want to break you down, give them what they want, close the distance and smother them. I understand that getting posture is important when dealing with certain guard passes and grips. but why is the notion of being down on your opponent in closed guard so frowned upon in most schools?
Instead of the posture battle, the grip battles, the battle to open his legs and then the battle to pass whatever guard he sets up once you do open, this concept just seems so much more appealing. Any idea why we don't see it more? I know I must be missing something lol

John Smith short answer is, it is hard to make work at the beginning so most toss it ... with lots of practice and good reps it slays

They won't be able to resist. You're practically gifting them the triangle/armbar. They just don't realize it's to setup this nasty pass.
