It's been nearly 20 years since I was there and visited the surrounding pubs which the servicemen used when unable to go further afield. The local said that at the end of the war a lot of stuff was dumped in the nearby water course.
King's Cliffe airfield is owned by Martin George of Whitworths milling. He's worth hundreds of millions. It's been rented out to a local farmer who has a lifetime rental contract for the last 50 years. In the 80's they were negotiating to pay the farmer out of his contract so they could develop the buildings and build a village up there. Unfortunately, the deal fell through as Martin George saw farming was going through a hard time and he thought the farmer would go bankrupt and he would get the land back for nothing. Fortunately for the farmer he held on and greed didn't prevail.
Great video , living in Stamford we are surrounded by old RAF bases . Theres another near Finshade on the forestry commision land ., complete with old buildings .

@@BigMrFirebird-ne1wt shame about the stuff being dumped in the water course but apart from that must have been a hive of activity back in the day
I think these disused places should be better managed, they are part of our history after all.
I totally agree, such a shame to see them crumbling away

@@-GTP316 That's a very interesting story and yes thankfully greedy didn't prevail.
Thanks for sharing 👍
The two open top structures at the end of the video are simple blast protection shelters in case of bombing.
Yes that makes sense, thanks very much for letting me know 👍
@@trevorsmith1995 I think they might have had earth banked up round them oiginally.

Will have a look, thanks for the info
Would that be former RAF Colyweston?
could it be a air raid shelter in first bit?
Apparently someone has said the structure's at the end of the video are blast shelters
