A villain so great, they constantly come up with bullshit just to bring him back.
You know the villain is great when they keep making bullshit ways to bring him back, and we LOVE it
I wish they kept him dead. Hes a joke now and giving him a new color shade aint changing that.

And the way they also come up with a way, legit sometimes, BS other times, for him to always be the strongest villain LOL
The true monarch that he is, he can't come back as like a third or fourth villain, he's always the main man. Freezer gold, freezer black. He's like the villain from a nightmare that no matter how many times you vanquish him we all know he will return

One thing I really appreciate about Frieza is the unapologetic racism. In Xenoverse 2 there's an Infinite History scenario where he goes off on a racist rant so bad that it actually took me a few minutes to stop laughing, his unapologetic evil is a sight and a half to behold.
Agreed, he's hilarious.
Racism is so fucking sick
That’s the most important part. The worst kinds of liars in this world are the ones who lie to themselves.
Self awareness & self acknowledgment is what separates us from other biological beings
Frieza black: puts on gold chain, and air force ones
Are there any personal reasons for why his racism is the most appealing to you?
As much as I love fallen heroes and tragic villains, sometimes the best villains are the ones who are just irredeemably and relentlessly evil
Agreed. While a tragic villain can definitely work, an unsympathetic villain can be equally as fun. The trick is to let them have an impact on the other characters and have their personality stand out. Freeza and almost all the dbz villains were perfect examples of this
Yeah frieza is just a massive piece of shit love it
This is Naruto's biggest problem lmao. EVERY. SINGLE. VILLAIN. Is the "fallen hero" archetype minus Orochimaru (who still gets redeemed anyway)
@@thegatorhator6822 I think Kaguya was never a fallen hero, A tragic one maybe but she was evil since the start, same with the rest of her Inter-dimensional Alien Race

Possibly the best cliffhanger in the DBZA series.
I dunno, I find the original Toonami dub absolutely chilling.

Frieza’s pure evil and memorable moments of his cruelty in the Namek saga was such a sight to behold when I first watched DBZ Kai in my childhood.
His torture of vegeta was so disturbing that I actually felt bad for vegeta, despite his murders of the Namekians earlier in the arc.
Freeza not Frieza.
Right, as I kid, I almost cried watching that. Felt so bad for him.
I remember when Goku went super saiyan for the first time, I couldn't believe anything could be so cool. It was probably the most epic thing that I had ever seen in my young life xD
Likely one of the greatest moments in all of anime. I was rewatching DBZ kai and Goku's transformation gave me chills still
The American voice actor makes it iconic to me, too. The Japanese one isn’t bad, but Sean give his voice more power.
That was my first episode of DBZ I watched when it first released on TV. You'd think that'd be a good intro to DBZ, but since I never saw other previous episodes, I didn't understand it.
I honestly think the Gynu Force genuinely loved Freeza.
what evidence is there to suggest that they didn't?
@@eclipsesoluna3453 I'm just saying that unlike the rest of his forces, they were not afraid of him and they were not hiding under him or even using him to gain more power. They genuinely believed in him.
I mean it makes sense, Frieza was probably their top employer. It was nice how they seemed to have an odd respect for each other, Frieza thought so highly of them that he couldn't believe someone had beaten them
Which is interesting since Ginyu's ability ultimately would have Freeza kill him on the spot if he knew about it. He played the lovable dancing fool well and Freeza was none the wiser.
@@CornBreadtm1 I men we see him use the ability in Super in Friezas training partner and Frieza recognizes him and isnt shook at all about his ability to change forms. Frieza knew all along about Ginyus ability but never considered it a threat to him that is how much trust there was between them.
Akira, Miura and Kazuki Takashi (creator of Yu-Gi-Oh!) can now be reunited in heaven. They brought so much influence on manga, shonen and anime genre. May they rest in peace. Thanks for everything and contributing to my childhood and making one of the most iconic series.
I already had great admiration for the limitless evil of Frieza…but knowing that he’s based on property speculators? Perfection. Infinite tier villainy.
1:54 his brother Cooler mentions in one of the movies how their parents "spoiled" freeza and implies Freeza was treated like the golden child. The movie isnt canon but still an interesting window into Freezas character.
The canon also implies that Frieza was spoiled given how he's never had to put any effort in anything. Although it's arguable how reliable Cooler is since he didn't seem to like Frieza much anyways
Actually if u watch the Japanese dub of the film, I don’t think Cooler ever mentions Frieza being spoiled by their father. Also the scene in Japanese actually has Cooler mention that Frieza must have been defeated by a Super Saiyan, if I remover correctly.
*remember
I'd love to see some sort of canon prequel/thing going into the history of Cold, Cooler and Frieza. That whole family is so mysterious and interesting.
Freeza needs his own backstory movie, now THAT would be interesting
The Reason Frieza is my Favorite Dragon Ball Villain is because he has no Tragic Backstory or Excuse for his Actions he is just Irredeemably and Purely Evil without even a Shred of Remorse for his Vile Actions.
Yeah that's why I have a love-hate relationship with his character. He's the most boring concept for a villain, but he's one of if not THE best version of it.
You’re acting like having a tragic backstory is a bad thing. Frieza is a great villain, but that doesn’t mean sympathetic villains are worse than him.
@@doodleboy565I’m just comparing him to Villains in Dragon Ball who are Sympathetic not that Sympathetic Villains are just bad concepts I just think Frieza embodies the Concept of a Ruthless and Cruel Tyrant better than anyone else.
I love me a tragic villain backstory but Frieza is the prime example of how fun it is to just have an evil ass villain who does it for the hell of it.
We need more characters like this
I was born on April 25th, 1988 always had a deep connection with this franchise. It all just hits different now thank you Akira
Frieza's confident and condescending personality-all while somehow remaining verbally polite towards his opponents (albiet often in a patronizing manner)- instantly made him my favorite villain in all of media. It's such a unique personality for a villain as ruthless and unstoppable as Frieza was.

@@blove88also Broly
Frieza is a kind of a villain that I absolutely love to see win and lose at the same time. It's fun to see Frieza utterly dominating his peers and enemies with sheer terror and charisma. But it's absolutely a BLAST when I see get his ass absolutely handed to him. It's quite a rare feeling for a villain that makes him the most unique villain of all times.
Honestly Frieza always give off the vibes of a spoiled brat that has never been humbled in his entire existence and all it took was a very angry monkey to put him in his place.🐱
To be fair though, Goku had a lot of help and couldn't have done it alone. Piccolo, Gohan, Krillin, Dende and even Vegeta to a degree all put in work.
I don't remember right now if it was an anime only thing or also happened in the manga, but at a certain point in the fight before the super saiyajin transformation Freeza said that except his dad, only Goku managed to hurt him
What's wild to me is he beats Goku in ss1 form too if he had done any kind of training in his life. OG ss Goku would've stood no chance against golden Frieza and I enjoy the idea that Goku honestly got lucky in that first battle with Frieza spending his life believing he is the all powerful. Obviously one doesn't happen without the other but still lol

That was more what Frieza and his Frieza force would do. Hence why the conqueror planets and sell them to other races.
Given that he has an imperial army and empire that invades and conquers worlds, I can’t help but wonder if he was also based of any dictator or warlord.

Great breakdown and I think Frieza is so well loved because of the many layers to his character. The way he runs his empire is not just a feudal system like Japan or Medieval Europe, but Frieza also runs the empire similar to say the Persian of Mongolia empires, because in those systems you didn't need to be born into it to join and raise up through the ranks in fact many of the most famous generals in those empires were foreigners of conquered peoples. It's also the various looks and transformations that Frieza goes through that always keeps you guessing what comes next. We also see how great of a manipulator he is, when he destroys planet Vegeta unless you were there you believed the story about it being hit by a massive meteor, in fact the story was so convincing that even the great King Kai, god of the Northern section of the galaxy believed it, for when he told Goku the story of the Sayians he told Goku the official version, only Vegeta thought it might be a lie but couldn't do anything about it. We also see how dark and sadistic Frieza is when fighting the Z-Fighters villains in the past and after Frieza did what they did out of a plan or necessity whether need the Dragon Balls for world dominance, take their time in a fight to test their own abilities, or destroy all because they are simple monsters. Frieza took his time first as a way to punish our heroes, then once they showed they could fight he only powered up enough to see what kind of challenge they could give him only to see out heros have strength so let's turn it up to see what happens next. At anytime given the depths of Frieza's power he could have ended the fight on Namek at anytime but didn't because then he'd be left on a planet with nothing to do but wait for King Cold's ship, Frieza was actually killing time, he was so powerful that planet killers like Goku, Piccolo, and Vegeta were just toys to pass the time.
I have always found it interesting how Frieza’s empire is made of multiple races and and is not dominated by the rule and superiority of one specific race like most empires in real life and in fiction (eg Palptine’s empire had a human dominant sentiment and rule)
I’ve also had a theory regarding Frieza ‘selling planets’ as I’ve always found it strange what Frieza could gain from selling planets to poor races that he couldn’t just take with his power. So my theory is that his empire would conquer a planet, give it to a race in need and in exchange, instead of giving him riches, they pledge loyalty and become a part of his empire. This is essentially his empire’s method of imperialism and how they recruit people for his armies.
I feel this would be consistent with how he is portrayed as he seems more like a Hegemonic warlord and Emperor rather than some crooked Buisnessman who sells things to earn a profit that he could just forcibly take.

While Frieza errantly kills soldiers without a care in the world, the Frieza Force apparently offers daycare services and maternity leave for expectant parents. I like to think someone out there was a pretty cool "mom" to him so he just understands the value of a good parent in life.
That "mom" comes in the form of Berri Blu, one of his most trusted advisors. It was probably a suggestion of hers in order to promote more loyalty through gratitude rather than loyalty through only fear; To encourage the idea that their boss was more than just a one-dimensional force of destruction.

Bro does not miss, absolutely incredible video and analysis of one of if not the greatest villain in all of fiction 👏
When Toriyama died, I saw a tweet that explained he modeled the villians after real estate speculators and this gives the writing in the show so much more relatable grounding to reality than other shows. Very good video, loved it.
I actually think the reason why Dragon Ball fans love Frieza is his role in the greater overarching story. He's essentially the villain responsible for the story. Without him, Goku likely wouldn't have been sent to Earth. Vegeta wouldn't be the character he is. Everything in early Dragon Ball from Goku's time on Earth, to the arrival of the saiyans, to venturing to Planet Namek was the perfect and natural set up for Goku to eventually confront Frieza.
He's also the last DBZ villain that actively sought after the Dragon Balls. After the Frieza saga, the spheres that the show is named after essentially become a background accessory they use at the end of every battle to revive people.
Freeza not Frieza.
@randysalsman6992 it's valid either way
It gives me so much joy knowing you are a huge fan of dragon ball, my favorite anime franchise. I’ve been following for a couple of years already, is good to know more about your persona.
I was thinking randomly today that it would be awesome to see a Frieza video... now here we are, you've made one - wow - thank you!
The Frieza Force has always been one of my favorite enemy factions in a series. Their reach and influence is so intensely felt throughout the series and the anime had a lot of filler that makes them feel so much more prominent than what the manga cannon shows us.
Agreed and some of my favorite designs even if I didn't care for the character I still love the armor and various alien designs from the Sayians, Appule's race, the blasters, scouters, there is so much to just look at and enjoy.
It’s a bit of a pity that we’ve never truly had much media on Frieza’s empire. Yes we see some scenes of it, mostly from the anime, but what was life like for the civilian side of Frieza’s empire. We see how Saiyans were treated, but how were other races under the empire’s occupation like. What were the living standards, type of economy and laws in place? And what was it like for those living in the empire when the Emperor was killed?
Hopefully we could see more media that expands on the lore of Frieza’s empire in the future similar to how there is lots of Star Wars media that covers life in Palpetine’s empire. It has lots of potential given how big it was, encompassing around 70% of the universe at its peak. That should make it significant larger than even Palpetine’s empire which only encompassed one galaxy.

Great video! Enjoyed every second.
Another aspect about Frieza I'd like to mention is the source of his kind of power or energy also reflects his character.
Examples: as powerful as he is he can't sense energy, at least when we first meet him, he needs technology when it comes to sensing or connecting to chi.
Which also further compliments Goku as his opposite
But also his ability to manipulate the physical world, where even in the tournament of power he is seen crushing Jiren with giant rocks from the arena.
Or when he is revived at least in the resurrection movie his minion swears they brought him back out of loyalty which is a virtue, but to Frieza it clear he dosnt understand virtue, or why anyone would act from such a place.
His first thought and respone is that no one else was capable of handling the empire he created thus they needed him back, because the idea that someone was capable of ruling the empire but would rather bring him back instead out of loyalty is purely inconceivable.
This further implies his pure disconnect from spirit, he has no feeling to the spirit he is purely physically and his energies extend to physical manipulation, but nothing spiritually
This further compliments the relationship with Goku cause Goku existence is the furthest thing Frieza is capable of understanding or comprehending.
Perhaps the most frightening person Frieza can imagine is Goku.
These where just some other areas of Frieza I was worth mentioning.
Thanks again for the great video.

When I first watched Frieza in DBZ as a kid, I was quite astonished by his unabashed ruthlessness and cunning persona. I knew that he was a character that I'd love to despise. Then, when I saw him in the Tournament of Power arc in DBS, I was first wondering what was Goku thinking, bringing him along with his team. Seeing them fight alongside each other was a sight to behold, but I knew he had his personal motivations and reasons for doing so, like a lot of humans do. Frieza is no doubt the immemse personification of evil that has ever been created, and the beloved Akira Toriyama did an impeccable job in creating him with every diabolical detail. Rest in absolute paradise to him, and as always, your videos give a genuinely wondrous and understandable look at the villains people love to despise, discuss healthily, and watch over and over again.

Frieza reminds me of Darth Sidious, but unlike Palpatine, Frieza learned some humility and evolved his character along the way. He saw the importance of training, meditation and even teamwork. He even has a grudging respect for Son Goku
I was about to say this. Palpatine and Frieza are without a doubt at the top of fictional villains.

I love how villains are made in DBZ. There final forms are always so normal in a strange way and that makes such an interesting thing.
I find Frieza to be the baddest villain in all Dragon ball simply due to the lack of fear he had throughout his initial arc. He was an unassailable wall of power until the protags could power up themselves but even that wasn't enough as Frieza would transform and hit a new plateau of power. Every time he was nearly bested on Namek he was either smug and transformed or got angry and beat the snot out of his victim. It wasn't until Goku turned super that Frieza even felt fear. Even demon king Piccolo felt fear early on in his arc when threatened with the Mafuba which lessened his intimidation. Nowadays they over-use Frieza so the charm has faded a little.
This post is sad but true...
Frieza is one of the greatest villains in anime and manga history, hell maybe in all of media. He’s completely unrepentant yet also very charming. Oozing with personality and reveling in every misdeed
Freeza not Frieza.
He's pretty much why i don't get hyped about most shounen antagonist when people say "oooh this guy is so cool because they see people as insects" when freiza is out here seeing everyone as that and causing mass extinctions without even thinking about it.
Plus how much damage he could take and still survive is metal
Yeah, Freiza definitely lived up to the hype, no one comes close.
@@commandervile394there’s Madara Uchiha
@@taycarroll1124 Sorry to say I ain't too familiar with him, but I imagine he had to have done lots of evil to be compared to Freiza.
@@commandervile394 madara has nothing in common with frieza madara wanted to end wars and bring peace in the universe..frieza was just a mass murderer capitalist with no goal
@@afrosamourai400 thus why he never lived up to Frieza's hype now that I think about it
I knew Chris Ayers and he was really the most amazing guy. He was really uplifting and fun, and he was a mentor to me, very encouraging and patient. Rest In Peace Chris.
It’s been 2 months since Toriyama passed, and I still get emotional when I hear other people talk about the impact he’s also had on their lives. His legacy is immeasurable. Great intro. 🤟🏽🍃
In reference to Toriyama’s comment about Freeza being partially inspired by “some queen he saw in a movie”. I believe there are some good contenders for who he pulled from. This is all sourced from a phenomenal post on Kanzenshuu by the user Kunzait.
First is the character Dongfang Bubai from “the Smiling Proud Wanderer”. Despite only appearing in a single chapter he is arguably the most famous character in the story and has been depicted many times in Wuxia/Martial arts films, which inspired Toriyama heavily. His androgynous appearance, signature finger beams and cruelty towards subordinates are all very Freeza-esque.
There’s also the character Wang Zhen from the Shaw Brothers film “Secret Service of the Imperial Court” which released in 1984, the same year Dragon Ball started. Freeza’s more psychopathic and spoiled brat tendencies alongside his signature laugh in the Japanese version are likely pulled from Zhen. They even meet similar ends with both being bisected.
Both characters are physically defined by strong feminine features such as lipstick and painted fingernails, with Bubai in particular often being played by a woman. This could be the reason why Toriyama remembers them as queens. It’s all speculation though.
Or maybe the Xenomorph Queen from Aliens.
I can't see Freiza ever being able to take on the Omni-King(s) directly... but I'd be a bit worried if he ever set his sights on Beerus.
he currently, could killl Beerus, and is probably half as strong as Whis, which is no small feat.
Based of what? Beerus has not shown any kind of worry or concern about anyone elses power. @@keithfilibeck2390
@@keithfilibeck2390no he can’t 😂😂😂!!..there’s was no confirmation that he is even in beerus level!!..tf are you talking about
@@keithfilibeck2390lol he’s no where near whis!!..none of what you said has even been hinted at in the manga!!..you clearly making shit up!!.Black freeza is stronger then Goku and Vegeta that’s all we know confirmed
@@Ntwadumela89 he's much stronger than Beerus, so that puts him closer to Whis than any of the cast.
Frieza is the one villian in the series i think is beyond redemption, He's been so twisted by his greed and need for domination that he'll always be a threat
His recent shift in focus to being more amicable to Goku and co is literally only because being around them makes him stronger- if he had nothing to gain from the interaction and was able, he'd just kill them
Frieza” I don’t care how many times you come back it only affords me the opportunity to end your life in ever more brutal and creative ways”.
Made my day! I remember suggesting Frieza in a comment on a past video, a year ago. Such a treat.
Freeza not Frieza.
Finally yaboi gets covered with the respect he deserves. Toriyama truly delivered a masterpiece with this character.
One of the best Anime Pure Evil villains ever
Dude, this guys voice is incredible i could listen to him describe in detail the full process of paint drying and never get bored
I’m so happy you finally did the GOAT!
RIP to the GOAT: Akira Toriyama. His legacy will live on forever. Been a fan ever since i watched the first episode of OG DB on tv when i was 9. Thanks For this vile
The timing! Me and my co-worker just started talking about Frieza 😂
THE MOST EVIL 😈 SCARY IS FRIEZA.
Freeza not Frieza.
@@BrandonScott-mi5pz Freeza not Frieza.
You were spitting truths. A great ode to one of the vilest evils.
One aspect of Freeza's personality that I enjoy an what makes him so terrifying to me is his ability to be benevolently cruel. To be ironically pleasant as he speaks to you deciding whether to end you fast or slow is probably the best thing about a villain I can think of. Some of the best villains are like that. Him being polite to a degree masks his malicious nature and before you know it: death beam to the heart. It's brilliant!
You're wholeheartedly correct...
Frieza might be the first evil you've covered that could legitimately surpass Sheev Palpatine and Morgoth, in terms of power, scope, ambition, and overall vice. That's saying something!
That being said, it would be interesting to see an analysis of a more low-key evil, focused solely on a singular individual, like Cinderella's Lady Tremain. Which do you think is worse: a widespread, all-encompassing apathetic evil, or one that intentionally affects one specific person?
Full agreed. I hope that in the next tier list he is put at the top of S tier where he belongs.
I consider Frieza, Palpatine, and Morgoth to be the most evil fictional characters in history.
Frieza’s empire is probably far larger than Palpetine’s given that Palpetine ruled over a good chunk of one galaxy, meanwhile Frieza had around 70% of the universe under him. That should encompass multiple galaxies, meaning Frieza has probably ruled over more people than Palpetine and for a longer time if I’m not wrong.

Love your deep sound of your voice as always. As a Japanese, I grew up reading, watching Dr. Slump so I miss Toriyama sensei very much. Could you analyze Char Aznable(From the first "Mobile Suit Gundam" to "Char's Counter attack") next?
That would be a good episode.
I agree we need a breakdown of “The Red Comet”
Great job! This is a really well made video on Frieza. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for this. Akira meant so much to me growing up, and it's a shame I didn't realize it more while he was living. He's changed and inspired my life more than I can say in a RUclips comment. Thank you Akira and Kentaro.
Finally. A DragonBall villian is being analyzed. Thank you Vile Eye
Rest in peace Toriyama, Frieza is one of those villains who you can’t help but love. He could possibly be the most iconic Anime/Manga villain.
I always love these analyses !!
This is amazing, I would love to see more analyzing evil episodes with other dragon ball villains. Specifically Cell.
I know that it isn't canon, but in Xenoverse 2, Frieza actively trained the future warrior, after being beaten by him. Showing that he has at least some respect for those stronger than him
Freeza not Frieza.

Love the logo work for the poster. Took me right back to high school waiting for vhs releases.
Really wasn’t expecting to see this. Pleasantly surprising.
So glad you mentioned his real estate speculator inspiration-not that I expected otherwise. It's just always been my favorite little detail about him.
