So great to see another RV channel! Isn't that 360 camera amazing? Wonderful to find your channel! You have some beautiful country for videos! Blue skies!
@TheFlightLevel. Nice to meet you! Yes the cameras are amazing, I just turn it on and fly! I’m going to try doing a video from my other plane, with the door off. Going to use my Canon camera and zoom, while my buddy flies. Excited to see if I can get some good video, or if I just loose my camera!
Amazing as always. You’re like the Bob Ross of aviation. Such calming narration and always making those “happy little formation loops” look easy. Thanks for sharing!
@Captain Charlie Bravo. Hey, thanks for the kind comments. So far I’ve been enjoying my retirement and I’m so lucky to have such a fun airplane!
@@WheelsInTheSky it looks like it! When I’m done building my 14, maybe I can fly it out your way and have you teach me the ropes.
@@CaptainCharlieBravo Sure, always welcome out here. Burnie in the Grey RV4 is also building a RV14.
What’s your video equipment?
... disregard, now seeing your other videos on subject.
Cool stuff! Huge thanks to Vans for creating these amazing machines! And of course smoke makes everything better - whether it's aerobatics or formation flying! 😁
@aerobatix guy. Yeah, I don’t know what we’d do if there were no Vans RV’s!! Affordable, fun, amazing!
RUclips notification appears. "YES! ... Stop everything ... Chris has posted" Very much appreciate what you share with us.
@David Vels. Thank you very much David, that means a lot to me. This is all too much fun to keep to ourselves. So I enjoy sharing it with other like minded folks. So glad you like it!
I was smiling all through that. Ace.
@sloleydave. Lol, glad to share the joy.
Best RV videos ever! I would love to hear more about you and your fellow pilots as a new RV7A owner.
@Cramer’s Classics. Congratulations on the new plane. The RV’s are such great planes. I was thinking I’d like to start introducing the individuals behind the planes and include our briefings. I’ll mention it to the guys. I’m still pretty new to doing these you tube videos. Thanks
Great video, comments are perfect not to much but just enough. Love the instruction about formation flying. Keep them coming
@trob20101 Thanks. I’ll keep trying!
That is what it's all about.
Fantastic. Thank you.
@Loz Jones. Agreed! So much fun! Thanks.
Awesome..! Thankyou...! Here I was thinking I was an Ace Builder and flyer of an RV4 with a new Formation Endorsement in my Logbook.... and then I clicked your vid.. But Inspirational and then some...! I'm going to bring up your procedures and actions at our next FF briefing..! Cheers..
@DaveTailor. Hi Dave. Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I like to put up a video every once in a while just to share the enjoyment. I’m a pretty average pilot, just trying to enjoy retirement with friends.
That’s pretty cool that you built your plane. A great accomplishment!! Also great that you went and got some formal formation training. So much more fun flying as a group!
Great video. Definitely helps me visualize rejoins and lead/lag positioning. Keep em coming. RV-6a learning formation flying now.
@gordonwhite96. Thanks Gordon. I have fun recording these. It’s always nice to know that others enjoy them to. We have an RV6a in our group. He’s been down working on his ignition, but should be back flying with us real soon.
Another great video, dad!!
@Mikayla Wheeler. Thanks Mikayla!
Thanks for the ride Chris. Beautiful scenery as always and great flying. 👍🏻
@Thomas Green Thank You Thomas.
Damn so much fun
@Skip Getelman. Yes it is! I can finally say “Living The Dream” without being sarcastic!! Lol
Very good camera work and outstanding flying as always Chris. Really get a kick outta watching you guys fly in formation like that. Nice to have mates with similar interests that you can have fun with.
@Vincent Molloy. Thank you Vincent. Yes, it make such a difference having buddies to fly with. Just wouldn’t be the same without them!
These are fantastic videos. I just earned my formation ticket yesterday - my instructor is a Rocket driver and we're both fans. The local formation crowd here (Temora, Australia - opposite terrain to you!) are a mix of civilian aviators, and a bunch of current and former military aviators. Your footage is excellent, and the editing is great. Just subscribed.
@Akromafia. So glad to have some new friends in Australia! Great to hear you have a group to fly with. So much more fun than just flying around single ship!
Thanks for the kind comments and thanks for watching. Glad to have you!
Absolutely wonderful video, I love that tail mounted camera.
@Fred Hassett. Hi Fred, thanks. I haven’t used that tail camera much in the past, so I thought I’d try a whole video with it. It’s a fun camera mount.
You guys look like you're having a blast. Big Elk to see it on camera.
They were big. Could see them clearly from cockpit. But I just didn’t have enough zoom on that little camera.
enjoyed Utah a lot with my PPG; now I can hardly wait to see it with my RV.
@swiftadventurer. Wow, with your RV you’ll be able to see it all. So much diverse scenery from north to south.
There’s some amazing rock formations we’re going to fly by in the morning near Castle Rock, just off I-80, like you’re going to Evanston,WY
Well done video on formation flying. Would love to know what kind of tail mounted camera that was. Impressive
@Ed Hrivnak. Hi Ed, thanks. I was using an Insta 360. I did a video a while back on how to mount it on your wing. I believe there’s a quick shot of my tail mount on that video also. ruclips.net/video/AKKkPPcr9T4/видео.html
Are you guys ex-military pilots? The formation procedures you use and the calls are pretty much what we learned in the T-38 back at Laughlin AFB in 1981. I love back country flying videos, but these other videos you do are SO SO much fun. Thanks a grundle!. PS: except that we had several thousand feet below us when we did our formation work . . . Overhead Pattern? Yea, you guys have to be ex fighter drivers.
@Loane Kirarahu Hi Loane. Glad you enjoyed the videos. We have a lot of fun doing them. Yes, we’re all ex-AF except one navy. Three of us were in fighters, one U2 pilot, one E3 and some heavy drivers. Just enjoying retirement, reliving the old days! I was at Shepard AFB in 1981.
@@WheelsInTheSky My Brother worked the Rapcon at Shepard in 1981. I finished T-37s, and nearly finished T-38s at Laughlin, including all SIM, all exams and ground school, passed the "Contact" check ride, and even had one solo formation T-38 ride, so I was nearly there. It was finally getting to be fun. My very, very favorite part of that experience was extended trail in the T-38. I absolutely loved that, but we didn't do it at 500 feet AGL But I had some back complications which washed me out medically at that time. Had I known then what I know now, I could have dealt with it, but I didn't know then what was going on. So I lost my flight pay and served an AF career without wings.
But I'm building two homebuilts now, a lightweight wood-fabric taildragger, and a 200 hp retract, the GP-4--the closest thing I'm likely to be able to fly to a T-38, and yes I plan on overhead patterns here at 41U. I'm a member of the SLC EAA Chapter 23, and we meet most of the time in Larry's hanger at BTF, very close there to where your Rocket lives. Hope to meet you some time. I'm 69 going on 20, and live in Manti, UT. BTW is your U2 pilot friend surnamed "Whicker?" Because I know a former U2 driver with that name that lives not far from there.
@Ioane Kirarahu. That’s too bad, I know how back issues can be, sometimes you don’t know if you’ll ever be better! I got hit on my motorcycle during 38’s, I was afraid I’d get washed out if I didn’t get better soon enough.
I’ll have to find out where Larry’s hanger is, maybe I’ll join EAA. I looked up the GP4, pretty cool. What kind of backcountry plane are you building?
Thank you Chris, for your answer on the setting of the Insta360, what do you use as a setting for the exposure?
@Gerard FARDEAU. I set 5.7/30fps, Exposure to auto, Exposure value to zero, W/B set to auto and color profile set to vivid. For the sd card, in settings, I used 264, haven’t tried anything else. I had to go check, I set them in the beginning and haven’t look at them since. When I fly my Rocket locally, I just turn on the camera before I get in. Sometimes in my 185 or Husky, I’ll turn on the camera with my iPad using the app. Looks like another nice day here, I think I’ll head to the airport. I’m thinking I might head down to Mexican Mountain!
I’m not an expert at this but if you have any questions that I can help with, just give me a shout.
hello, what setting do you use on your insta360
@Gerald Fardeau. Hi Gerald. Not a lot of choices in 360, but I use 5.7k, because as you edit you lose definition. Initially, I was worried 5.7k would take up too much space on the sd card. But I use a 128 card and it holds more than enough.
We’ll done once again Chris. Other than the aft-facing in cockpit camera, is the primary camera mounted in some manner on the rear fuselage or tail? It seems to be some type of gyroscopic, inertial camera since it can move in a direction different than the plane is rolling. How is that camera controlled? Was that an add you made, or did your plane come with that when purchased? Fabulous work brother.
@Steve DeViney. Hi Steve, thanks, good to hear from you. I built a camera mount that sits on top of my vertical stabilizer. I use a 360 degree camera and just control the camera view in editing. No talent needed!!
Great rejoins! I'll assume the lead RV-4 has an I/O360....does it have fixed or CS prop?
@jcheck6. Thanks, rejoins are always fun! Yes, 180hp and CS. It’s a neat plane.
@jcheck6. my mistake. it’s 230hp
One of these days, you should invite a Glasair 1RG to join you.
@Dan Blumel. Yeah. Hey Dan, you’re in Ogden right? Come on over to 42U, most Saturday mornings between 9 & 10. Or stop by me n Joe’s hanger at SkyPark. we’re on the East side, about the middle in a sixplex, hanger E in the “Toy Box”.
Fantastic video once again!! That white F1, that’s an EVO wing, correct?
@James Riordan. Thanks James! That’s Mike’s, his wing is the same as mine - not EVO. I don’t see many Rockets with the EVO.
Wheels in the Sky ok, thanks! It didn’t quite look right for the sport wing but it’s hard to tell sometimes on videos.
Epic flight and very nicely done. Love the smoke trails with the rear view and seeing the first one coiling up as you were laying the second. You guys have a wonderful playground on your doorstep.
Request. One of your number has a 7 (I think) in a white / yellow colour scheme. As well as my trusty 4 I’m restoring/completing a Brugger Colibri MB2 (single seat, rag and stick, VW power). I’d like to base my colour scheme on his. Assuming he agrees, any chance you’d be able get some shots? Thanks in advance.
@watchfordpilot Thanks, such a good time! Sounds like you’re staying busy. The only plane with yellow that I can think of is Shane’s yellow and white RV8. He sold it the day after he bought his red and white Harmon Rocket. I still have some video of it that I can get to you if that’s the one you’re thinking of.
@@WheelsInTheSky That would be awesome, thanks Chris
@@watchfordpilot I’ve got a pic of Shane’s Yellow and white RV8. If you’ll send me your email, I’ll forward it. Me: chwheeler1@gmail.com
Is one of those other pilots Darren R. by any chance?
@William Allen. Hi William. No, but I was talking to Darren, looking at his Rocket, just before we took off. Have you seen his brothers Rocket- super nice. I’ll have to get a video of their Rockets!
@@WheelsInTheSky Have not seen it but would love to see a Video. If you talk to Darren, tell him Bill in Austin said “Hi”
@@roadrider85 Ok, nice to meet you Bill, I’ll tell him. Hope this is the right Darren, not real sure of his last name! We’ll find out!
I'd like to see a picture of the camera and mounting.
Hi Bruce. I recently did a video on “ How to Mount Cameras on Airplanes “. it was about how to build an airplane selfie stick, but I also quickly showed a picture of the tail mount I made. Let me know if that helps. I may do another video on how I made my other mounts.
@@WheelsInTheSky That must be an amazing gyro stabilized camera to stay on the horizon while you perform a roll. Remote control?
@@brucecruikshank2666 Yes, amazing little camera, does all the work for you. I’m anxious to see how it holds up over time.
Yes , it can be operated with your phone or iPad. But I just turn it on, go fly and turn it off when I get back. Battery will last a good hour or more.
