@@kelanjames3488 yea I actually had some bruised it’s been two and half months and they still haven’t healed properly, I avoid the bigger guys and I never get on my back
@@kvnboudreaux oh really? Yeah mine are super painful over the last two weeks. Hopefully I'll get better and not be able to be put on my back either lol
I had three blue belts explain to me this tip to better position myself prior to getting smashed...would have liked to know that sometime sooner than a year into bjj!
that's a good fundamental. I use it all the time, especially the 'cool dude' head sweep & biceps repost. the head sweep clears out some choke attempts before they get bad too.
One of my favorite bottom side guard tips is to just bridge a teeny teeny bit prior to turning the hips out, not a huge bridge. It’s such a simple thing but it’s made a world of difference. I’ve been trying to frame the anterior pelvis with that arm, kind of using the structure of my humerus to create space but looking forward to trying to block that arm instead, seems like a great defense.
Thanks will try, I get smashed no matter what position, I’m usually the smallest being one of the only women in class and all other guys are bigger & have trained for 1 yr or more, I need all help I can get, been training for about 5 mths thx again
Oh yeah sometimes I love that variation once they already have the full on cross face where I just sneak in my finger tips and gently move their arm with all their body weight behind back into a more convenient defensible position for me...works great with my infant 🤣
I am very good at this top position but Theres a Guy that use this tip you teached and i cant pass anymore.... Can you pleae teach a counter to It? Greetings from rio de janeiro and Sorry my bad English
This is especially helpful to us smaller guys
I need more smaller guy vs big guy techniques
I was just thinking this, my ribs are getting tired of getting smashed by guys twice my size that just throw it all against me
@@kvnboudreaux I just started me ribs are fuuuucked lol

I've been doing it non-stop lately and it works fantastic.

I really needed this, especially if he passes my hip! Will be trying it this am..
Such a great tip, wish I’d seen this before my competition, will try it out at practice for sure!

Thanks, Professor!
Thanks for this tip. Ive been bench pressing people at class to prevent side control and don't want to do that anymore. Will push the bicep now!
Im surprised you dont get caught in an arm triangle more often pushing your arms out so hard like that
Side control is the bane of my existence, every tip I can absorb is much appreciated thank you
Same here! LOL
Dude I'm 165 5 11 and I struggle with bottom side. Thank you brother. I never focus on the bicep at all and always get smashed
Woah my professor just went over this with me in my private lesson yesterday!!!
Goose head grip! Love this!
Thanks. I need this especially with much bigger and stronger guys
thanks chew and ad roc
Thanks for the detail !

Needed this yesterday. Definitely gonna use this
Thanks. Gonna try this defense.
Drilled this yesterday, not easy. Gotta keep drilling 👍🏿
Drillers are killers.
***OSS*** 🥋
Yea, I'm always focused on pushing their knee back, but this makes sense.
Love how just seeing little concepts sometimes click
As always, the devil is in the details! Thank you for this tip sir. Absolutely needed this
Thank you! Now I have to try to reprogram my head to do this instead..
Thanks! This helped a lot.
thanks chewy!
Good tip
The iron squirrel!
Yep this absolutely works my coach is constantly preaching about blocking the bicep and getting that underhook lol
Will try
Becomes a swim battle

Look up Emily Kwok and Brandon Mullins. Both have good info for small people too
Hang in there, it will get better. One day you will be doing the smashing!
Do you ever use the other arm to get cross bicep control allowing you to come up on your elbow? Or do you find this one to be higher percentage?
Give ‘em the ol’ iron squirrel
Niceeee

Joe lauzon calls it iron squirrel
I broke my wrist by framing against the hip like that in that exact context….bicep only from now on lol
I always grab the bicep but get stuck on the next steps
you are jacked like Gordon Ryan
Gordan Ryan says never let top side get arm behind the neck. so there ya go
It’s called blocking the cross face
Crap. I was told this before and forgot. Been framing the hip and it works ok because I’m on the bigger side. This is better
How about vs a bigger dude I roll with nothing but huge wide dudes and I have trouble escaping lol
Adam
Pushing against the hip with the hand is always wrong
And feet
