This is so great. Not one strength/explosive movement used. No need to use lots of motion to create the required space. You can do it this way until you are over 80 yeas young. This is the best channel on RUclips, period
I knew I was going to learn something new from this guy. Knee-elbow is a classic entry, but his technique to push the head away under cross face, and then the hips, is something I haven't been taught yet. Can't wait to die slower!
By far one of the most realistic explanations of side control you will find. Explaining the idea that if a training partner wants to hold you down tight and not improve their position, then so what.
In the late 90’s, Maestre JJ was the first Brazilian black belt I ever rolled with . Smooth as silk then , smooth as silk now. I got my third degree this past weekend from Sensei Erik Paulson. The journey continues, never give up. Your BJJ can always get better🙏🏻
I’m a huge fan of this. However, I tried the 1st technique on a heavier opponent today and I couldn’t get it to work. I’m 70kg he’s 110kg. He had a strong side control and I wasn’t able to move my head. Any tips?
What specifically did not work? The initial hip movement? The turning in? If you're having trouble moving your head, you may want to deal with the cross face first: ruclips.net/video/2KoltIJL4sA/видео.html
problem is, this isn't really realistic. even white belts will drive your head to the other side with their shoulder not keep you looking to the ceiling where it's easy for you to get out. thats the problem with these escapes they've never actually based in reality with the person on top doing something normal they're always just letting you escape holding you a way they never do in an actual roll
He literally shows what to do with the cross face, and it's viable. They make you look away? Move your head in that direction. You just can't look into them until you get rid of the cross-face. And keep in mind that being on top is the dominant position, there is NO easy "get out of jail free card" that you can use against a strong and talented opponent. It's a matter of patience, accuracy/timing and persistence. Whoever wins that, wins the position.
@@af4396 nah. there is not a single point in the video, not one where the guy on top if heavily cross facing to the point where the head is turning the complete opposite side to the point of the neck breaking. every single demo is with no pressure on the neck whatsoever and him looking directly up and freely able to move the head which is completely unrealistic. even white belts with not even 1 month xp will drive break your neck to the other side and not let you do any of this.
Then youre busy looking for a cheat code for easy escapes. Its about the principle of what youre trying to do. Do you know how many possible positions there are from side control if youre including minor knee placements & hand placements to where their head is to how much they weigh where their center of mass is? Thats not a realistic demonstration to go over every possibility. Just look for key aspects that can translate & pay attention to the variables' strengths & weaknesses. Be real, what youre saying is like looking at an opening for chess & complaining that "someone didnt move the piece where the instructional said they would" THEY HAVE 16 PIECES IT CAN CHANGE THERES HUNDREDS OF COMBINATIONS OF MOVES THEY CAN MAKE. I think I finally got what I was doing wrong. Thank you, Master Jean Jacques Machado.

The 5:00 mark is where I end up, a lot! That small detail to ensure the elbow is on the opponent's body is one I'm going to try. Thanks for the tip!
For every episode all i can say is “wow”. Subtle but effective. A timely lesson for me.
so true, these clips are gold.

Excellent teaching , concepts only a master of jujitsu adept of Grand Master Rickson Gracie could teach . Thank you master Jean Jacques.
JJM é muito mestre. Tenho que voltar a treinar. Meu cabelo tá ficando muito branco.
Great stuff!
Movement is keys. Having the body in the correct position and then adjusting as needed. Love how he doesnt need strength or speed.
I need this…was getting crushed in side-control today
È um tutorial GM JEAN?? OBRIGADO...........OSSSSSS

This very principle of connecting knee-elbow is taught by another maestro John danaher as well.
