I'm the lyricist and singer on this, Cynthia Morrow. The Beepers was made up of Arthur B. Rubinstein, Brian Banks, Anthony Marinelli, and me. We also did the music for Blue Thunder.
You were awesome! I just found the extended "Wargames" score on ITunes. One of the greatest scores of the 1980's! I'm sorry for some of the disgusting negative comments. I assure you, most of us don't feel that way.
great song, I've sung it in my head and aloud for years. Back years ago when WarGames came out.. I remember watching it diligently on HBO and yes specifically this song. It's one of those triggers that takes you back. I had no idea that it existed in its entirety lol. It was an impromptu thought to find it! ❤
I'm so glad you like this. We loved making it. I was always disappointed that we didn't enter "Edge of the World" for Academy consideration. My person favorite, though, is "History Lesson", which I really enjoyed writing and singing as a bit of evolutionary fun. Brain and Anthony suggested I sing "Video Fever" through the computer, which turned out pretty well.
Cynthia, this track has followed me since it stood out and struck me as a child endlessly watching WarGames. Got a real haunting quality to it but portrays the video arcade atmosphere so well. Brilliant.
The Beepers was made up of Arthur B. Rubinstein (composer), Cynthia Morrow (Lyricist, singer, keyboards, viola) Brian Banks and Anthony Marinelli (Synclavier 2, keyboards). We first did Blue Thunder, then War Games together. I (Cynthia) wrote the lyrics and sang Video Fever through the Synclavier 2 Synthesizer to get that sound. Brian and Anthony played it.
That is so awesome Cynthia. This song always captures my imagination! Still remember seeing it in the theatre when warhames came out and m Broderick running to school with this song playing
¿Algún gunter que haya venido aquí por Ready Player One? v: When lees el libro antes de ir al cine, y te das cuenta de lo genial que es, hasta el punto de buscar cada detalle en internet como hubiera hecho Wade.
38 yrs going on 39 yrs in 2022 ,Love this tune as in the 1983 Cold war comedy thriller Wargames starring Matthew Broderick and Alexander Sheedy, Barry Corbin and Dabney Coleman 🎼🎵🎶❤️🎥🤣The video games arcade scene comes to mind 🤣 With The Beepers playing Video fever ❤️
Thank you so much. Hope you enjoy the books. I don;t know where you live, but I'm doing a book reading of 2 of my newest books this Sunday, Oct. !3th, at McDonald's Book Exchange in Redmond, WA, 4pm. I'd love to meet you!
Hey! Thanks for the great song! It's a great pleasure to see here such good vocalist. I think some people don't like it, because you just need to get used to such music, like to opera or black metal. But I'm writing to ask you about The Beepers Wikipedia article. It's rather bad. Could you just review it or even add basic info? Many people want to know more and there's not much info :( Or, if you could write basic stuff (discography if any, years active, member changes if any, other bands that musicans played into), I would add it by myself.
Vividly remember this scene at the beginning of War Games . . . one of my favorite movies . . . cool little tune! So very very very 80s!! This is The Beeps . . . if I'm not mistaken . . .
Arthur B. Rubinstein has the original tracks and actually did a remix for the newest DVD and CD which was released for the 25th anniversary of the film.
Video Fever - The Beepers Was it just the other day? You were an achiever, such a busy beaver Now we hear you've gone astray And you're living in the shade of a video arcade And it's just a little to the left And it's just a little to the right And it's just unreal how alive you feel Vaporizing everything in sight And it's just a little to the left And it's just a little to the right Just a few beeps more 'til you beat your score And you're gonna if it takes all night And you never get lonely anymore Never feel blue, numb now, Video Fever's gone and put the bite... on you We don't see you on the street People ask about you - life is great without you Do you ever stop to eat? Do you comb your hair? Do you really care? And it's just a little to the left And it's just a little to the right And it's just unreal how alive you feel Vaporizing everything in sight And it's just a little to the left And it's just a little to the right Just a few beeps more 'til you beat your score And you're gonna if it takes all night And you never get worried anymore Never feel blue, but now--- (numb now)--- Video Fever's gone and put the bite... on you
Wargames and Blue Thunder were both highly successful Blockbuster films in 1983, both directed by John Badham, both with fantastic soundtracks! You should be very proud of your contributions to both films. Cythinia, Your voice is wondeful. I had Video Fever playing in my head a lot as a teenager..lol.. PS: I have always wondered, Where did the name "The Beepers" originate and come from?? - Tony K.
i looked for this for a really really long time like 3 years ago. now i watched the movie again, and was like "hey, why not look again, it might be there (the internet)" and to my surprise, it is!
I loved this film thanks to the soundtrack too! And before knowing The Beepers, I had already listened Marinell's covers of Herb Alpert's CD "Whipped Cream and Other Delight": wonderful!
Anyone feel like Wargames suddenly got popular out of nowhere? I just saw it at the beginning of this summer and watched it a bunch since then due to how comfy the movie is.
Also I don't mean it hasn't always had a following because it has, I remember it being on TV alot and other movies referencing it, but I just mean this year it seems to have resurfaced in terms of popularity, probably because it's 2023 and it came out in 83, so 40th anniversary
Anyone know where I can find the vocal version of 'David's concern' or 'falkens maze' not sure of the name, but you only hear the instrumental in the movie. Track 06 'history lesson' on the OST
If you like such direction in music, you might want to check The Epoxies. Of course it's not the same, but it's worth trying. Or Roxy Epoxy and The Rebounds (solo project of voc) if you want good lyrics. BTW I like lyrics of that song - very balanced as for my taste. You know what's about, yet there's some openness, could make you think, could be a good discussion starter.
Dear God this is bad! I never even knew this song existed until I watched WarGames on high def and heard this horrible warbling in the background. Was this actually thought of as being a popular song? Terrible.
While there is hundreds of 80's songs better than this, I'd still rather listen to this over modern pop and mumble rap, this is coming from a millenial too.
@@drcmorrow4449 Bad sounds? Hey now, I'm a classic gamer! That was the Golden Age. Anyway it's a good song, it's everything it is supposed to be and that's the way things ought to be!

This was a part of my 80's New Wave soundtrack upbringing as a young kid.
Thanks much.
Cynthia you did a great job:)
Well I think the music is just Dandy, and I would like to buy you a beer.
It really warms my heart to know that people like this song and our performance.

I forever associate this song to David going in the arcade to play Galaga 🕹️ 😅

WarGames is a damn masterpiece. Four star flick.

I know that movie from way back, but Ready Player One brought me here as well.

Thank you Gobo. For 32 years I assumed this was a Missing Persons song
Really wished they used this during the arcade scene in 'Stranger Things 2'.
Oh man, that would've been SO cool. I would've flipped out!!
Thanks! I even messaged their facebook page after the original trailer came out suggesting it.
That's from the sand burial chapter with Ted Danson and Leslie Nielse, correct?
Yep !!! Count me in,I'm still watching war games too. A classic eighties vibe taken from a great movie.🇬🇧🇬🇧👍😃👍 June twenty two
Still a classic. 32 years later. Cool.
You embodied the 80's in this song. This song should be in season 5 of Stranger Things

My favorite part in Ready Player One is where Parzival roleplays David Lightman in one of James Halliday's favorite movies, WarGames.
I wish the movie for RPO had been better.

This song is referenced in the novel Ready Player One
Dude, everything that happened in the 80s is referenced in Ready Player One.
People slagging this off have obv' missed the point!...... It's the 80's ffs!! And still sounds more modern/hip than most of today's stuff tbf
Gotta love a Synclavier and a great voice.
This song gets stuck in the head very easily.
Just looked this song up whilst reading ready player one, as it gets a mention. Great stuff
Same here. Let's go boys.

Every time I hear this song, I think of two things . . . Galaga and Running to Class.
great movie atmosphere in the song I'll always remember it
I miss the 80's!!!! Where is the flex capacitor?
What an amazing and foreign concept, making up brand new pop music for your movie instead of just playing Eye of the Tiger all the time.
WARGAMES
Awesome lyrics... I always ran around singing this song as a kid after my mom took me to see WarGames.
I loved this film thanks to the soundtrack too! And before knowing The Beepers, I had already listened Marinell's covers of Herb Alpert's CD "Whipped Cream and Other Delight": wonderful!
VINTAGE !!!
Great to hear this song again, you did a great job on it. I saw this movie back in 1983 when it came out. I ordered your books too.
Me too!
did Matthew Broderick ever release his high score in Galaga
No. He handed it off to Howie... : )
