It is great that we are connecting over this music BUT I want to hear this live and we can't right now. If we (Nashville, Philadelphia everywhere) don't go live until 2021, I will feel that I missed all this Beethoven. 😢
Great video. Sad story at the end but it made Beethoven more human, to know things didn't always go perfect. We love Beethoven because of his pain (that we all have), but more so because of his triumph.
The first movement of this symphony is hard to wrap my head around - not so much because of the long intro, which is easy enough to separate from the Vivace; but because - the exposition seems to lack an obvious second theme - because the development does evolve a strong melodic theme, which is then reused - and because the coda, as you say, is effectively a new development section making use of this strong development theme (which occurs at 12:30 at this video), with no second recapitulation at the end. I keep seeing descriptions of the Vivace as having two themes. I can only hear one strong theme in the exposition, (commencing 9:37 at this video), and then a collection of bits of melody that don't particularly sound like they are intended as a theme (commencing 10:22 at this video? Though I never can tell if this is just transitional material to the development.) I therefore find it very hard to identify where exactly the exposition ends, and also where the recapitulation begins and ends. I also keep misidentifying a large part of the development as being actually a continuation of the exposition.
These talks on Beethoven's symphonies deserve far more attention. Thank you so much for making them for us!
So glad you enjoyed them!

Very engaging for even a non-player like myself. Thank you for elaborating on the piece of music that makes life better for me!
Merci beaucoup for these talks.
Great video!
