same, he could tell me stories about any band I actively hate, although Im only indifferent to counting crows despite everyone knowing this song because of radio.
@@Peasant_in_a_tree I’m more of a pistols and Ramones fan… he looked like a monkey jumping up and down while trying to keep his jacket on and then tries to keep his jacket off, complete with cringy fringe! Don’t tell me that’s not funny!!! 😂😜😉
I have it on cassette and it sits half way into my deck in my truck. When nothing is on the radio I push it in. I've listened to that album so much that I know the order of the songs before they start. It's such a good album. Every song is good.
Every time I listen to Mr. Jones..I always remember when I first heard it when I was in San Francisco..up late with my sister watching music videos… I turn 18 out there and I was just getting into listening to rock music… I instantly fell in love with the song. Still love it to this I day. I LOVE August and Everything After…I love EVERY single track on that album. Ages later I still enjoy it.❤❤❤❤
Man I’ve been dying for a video about Counting Crows such an amazing band that is really under appreciated for the quality of songs and albums they have.
I really enjoyed counting crows back in the 90s and I still have a few of their songs on rotation in my play list. I think they have made good music over the years.👍
Loved the Crows back in the day - August and Everything After was my goto for road trips. Mr Jones was so catchy, but Murder of One is still my favorite.
my parents loved counting crows so i heard their stuffall the time as a little kid. i remember back then i thought 'Mr Jones' was noticeably goofy and weird, i also thought the narrator was just kind of in love with mr jones.
That album is so awesome. I just moved to the Bay area right after that album dropped. That was a very special and exciting time in my life and that album and third eye blinds first album was the soundtrack to it. Awesome times.
I didn't buy it til like 2011 or something, I heard a song for the first time in a bar, I think it was track 6 or 7, if it was a single it wasn't as big in Canada as Mr Jones, but I realised I loved it and bought the album for fun
They had a run of three great albums, though Recovering the Satellites was the standout. This Desert Life had big shoes to fill and did a decent enough job, but Satellites was their masterpiece, pushing radio-friendly rock as far as it could go and showing that Duritz is one of the finest lyrical storytellers of his generation.
My second favourite album of all time next to the Joshua Tree! This video is coming out at a perfect time for me since im seeing them for the first time live in less than a week from now! I’m so excited and this adds to the hype!
Thanks for the video. I met Marty Jones in St John, Virgin Islands years ago and always wondered if he was the real Mr Jones. You told the story word for word. He was working in the solar business last I heard.
So I saw the Crows on the final night of that ridiculous 18 month tour they did in support of August... It was a make-up date in Toronto at concert club (Warehouse or Guvernment, can't recall). Anyway, Duritz was soooooo burned out at that point, he absolutely didn't wanna be there and everyone could tell. One of only two shows I ever walked out of in over 700 concerts, it was so bad. Adam was butchering his own songs as some kind of protest, and it was hard to watch. Was worried about him for a while after that, but so glad they came through it and are still doing great shows today.
I thought August and Everything After was a great album. Omaha came out when I was living there, that was a bit surreal. It's unfortunate to hear that Adam struggled with fame so early, especially with self-consciousness about his appearance. Imagine finally being recognized for your talent only to have it overshadowed by people critizing your looks.
The same thing happened to Christopher Cross. He had a great voice and put out some amazing songs, but once MTV came along and people wanted to see the real face behind those songs… I think you can figure out the rest.
@waverlyking6045 Rick Beato just posted an interview with Christopher Cross today. I'm curious to see if he talks about that part of the music business or not.
Love this band! I'd heard somewhere around the release of this album that not only was "Mr. Jones" not supposed to be a single, but that the band didn't want singles, period. (Imagine that in this day and age, or then!) I'm guessing that the band wanted to gain fans the old-fashioned, word-of-mouth way:"Dude! You've gotta' hear these guys! They're killer!". Any band that doesn't want media help, especially when so many are DYING for such a break.....that's to be respected. To me, at least.
I’m a massive CC fan and my wife and I saw them a few years ago in Australia, they didn’t play Mr Jones and my wife to the very day is pissed hahaha. I always bring it up just to mess with her.
I’m actually creeped out about that song in 93 we heard it and I was served with a Elder Jones I am meeting another Used to sing Elder Jones and I found out the guy lived in Eugene. That’s where survive mission that’s why I think it’s creepy.
I think you should do something with Midnight Oil if ya have i never seen it but i always thought they were a band the was never as big as the should've been! In my opinion anyways!
Honest question: When you say 7 million copies states side, and 10 million world wide, does that include the 7 million sold in America? Or is it 10 million additional sales? Rock on!
Never really been a big fan of Counting Crows, but, it's nice finally having this mystery solved. Lmao, now we can put to rest, the ridiculous rumors about Mr. Jones being his penis!!! 😂😂😂😂
@@genghis_connie It IS wild, especially because they sounded so unique, meaning that no other bands of that time\genre were sounding like Van Morrison.

Hmmm...yeah, I can see that resemblance. Add the same fake dreads, bit of face-fuzz, and there ya go. Otherwise, I'm not down with Duritz and his band. I had that yawp of his jammed in every orifice when that album came out, and it was no surprise when they turned out to be fueled by payola (as mentioned in several vids). Look into the "1990s Indie Promoter" scandal/legal probe, and you'll find them staring back at you. Sorry to bust your fan bubbles, gang...but they were an Industry Plant, plain and simple. Gotta watch that...
Counting Crows are a great band! I really enjoy their earlier albums! They're in my top 10 growing up years bands! It's probably nostalgia that has them so high in my opinion. But I don't care! Also any band and I mean ANY, Hell Aqua (Barbie Girl) is better than anything Kurt Cobain wrote! He couldn't even play guitar worth a damn!

August And Everything After is a gorgeous album, 5 stars, and i’m not even huge into counting crows like that
100% agree.
Absolutely, love it. Too bad they resent their biggest hit and don't play it anymore.
You should all check out Recovering The Satellites, it's also an amazing record. Angels of the Silences is incendiary.
Agreed. Also a front-runner in 90’s bands’ usage of singing “yeah” on an album.

I really enjoyed counting crows back in the 90s and I still have a few of their songs on rotation in my play list. I think they have made good music over the years.👍
Absolutely love Counting Crows, Adam Duritz is such a great songwriter......and I noticed a few years back his twin is Adam Richman.

"The Rain King" is mine.

Although I'm mostly into old heavy stuff August is one of my favorite chill, mellow albums and it still gets plenty of rotations in my house.
Absolutely every song on this album is a hit. Normally there are always a few songs that are considered skip-able on any given album... not this one.

The person you refer to as Dave Bryson is actually Dan Vickrey.
I wondered why a pic of Adam and Dan was showing when the narration was referring to Bryson and Duritz starting Counting Crows. Very odd.
