    Ross (Martin Freeman) & Klaue (Andy Sirkis) were the only major white actors in the film, and both were part of the Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit films. Andy played Gollum in both trilogies, Martin was the young Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit. As a result, there was a joke on set by everybody that Martin and Andy were the Tolkien White Guys.

    In general, the king IS the Black Panther. T'Challa became Black Panther before he became king because his father relinquished the role as he aged, and became more embroiled in politics.

  • @crystalrose_pa
    @crystalrose_pa 2 года назад +85

    29:40 He definitely could have done that, but the fact that he didn't shows M'Baku's integrity. He's honorable and only wants to earn the throne in a fair way which is why he challenged T'Challa in the official ceremony.

  • @drakeredwingofficial
    @drakeredwingofficial 2 года назад +197

    Some answers to your questions:
    -They stripped T'challa of his powers during the duels at the waterfalls so that it was an equal playing field. With the Heart-Shaped Herb in his system, it gives him supernatural strength, instinct and speed.
    -This movie takes place not too long after Captain America: Civil War, hence the flashbacks to T'challa's father's death.
    -Ulysses Klaue is the guy from Age of Ultron we met in Johannesburg, who had his arm chopped off by Ultron. He later turned a mining tool into a prosthetic arm with a sonic gun (as, in the comics, he was able to manipulate sound with a little satellite dish in place of his left hand).
    Some thoughts:
    Black Panther is still my favorite standalone movie in the MCU, though it is closely followed by an upcoming movie that you'll get to eventually (that I don't want to spoil anything about). Everything about it, but especially the juxtaposition of T'challa and Killmonger, stands out to me. Killmonger is one of the most understandable villains in the MCU, and in a way, people can empathize with his story and his motives, while also condemning his methods. T'challa, played by the late great Chadwick Boseman, is a standout in this and in every movie/project he was part of before his passing. The man changed the game for superheroes in my opinion, and paved the way for more badass films with unique cultural spins like it.

      Where in Africa though. It is a very big place with dozens of countries and hundreds of distinct cultures. The American and British actors did a shoddy job of their accents, especially Forest Whittaker. The closest to a legit African accent of any kind was by Danai Gurira whose parents are Zimbabweans who moved to the US. John Kani (who plays King T'Chaka) is South African so so his accent in an actual African accent. I would have liked to have seen more real African actors cast as Wakandans.

      Respectfully, I'd like to argue against what you said about the terms of the king and Black Panther being one in the same. When Killmonger talks about exercising his blood right as a descendant of Wakandan royalty, he specifically mentions how the challenge against T'Challa is for both mantles of king of Wakanda and for the Black Panther, insinuating that they're not the same title with interchangeable names. Another piece of evidence that argues against your claim is how T'Challa's father, T'Chaka, was still considered to be king of Wakanda during "Captain America: Civil War", but T'Challa was still only referred to as the Black Panther, which he details as a mantle passed that's been passed down from warrior to warrior for generations. Again I can see where the confusion is in regards to both mantles and how they're always mentioned together and rarely mentioned separately. I remember having to do a deep dive through RUclips and Google to figure out whether or not being king of Wakanda meant that you'd automatically be referred to as a Black Panther. But alas, they are two different titles that T'Challa has earned. Hope to see what happens later in the MCU!

    It may not have been his final performance, but this movie and it's message, especially that "more connects us" speech at the end, serve as a fantastic end note to Chadwick's life. From what little I know of him, Chadwick was absolutely the incarnation of Black Panther's message here, he seems to have been all about equality, empathy, kindness, and elevating others. Was it intentional that you recorded and uploaded this around the 2-year anniversary of his death?

European and American museums are full of stollen history and getting to see that call out on such a large scale was sick. Now that I'm an adult I'm sure that if I was able to see him again i'd learn so much wisdom and gain his blessing. Rest in Peace Great Grandad.

    @Alex Hefner, granted, you’re hilarious, but thinking up jokes may be distracting you from the film...You weren’t sure if the protagonist was good or bad, despite his killing his lover in cold blood. You were confused as to why the snow king didn’t kill the king, when T’Chala allowed him to tap out, thus saving face. As a reactor, it’s more important to understand what’s going on then to be funny. Case in point, not remembering how Bucky ended up in Wakanda. I think you need to find a balance...Perhaps more observations, less “gooch” 😏

    1. MBJ improvised the “hey auntie” in the throne room
    2. MBJ is a huge anime nerd and if you look closely his outfit resembles that of Vegeta from Dragonball
    3. MBJ is the 2nd actor to play Johnny Storm/Human Torch in a Fantastic 4 movie prior to joining the MCU, the first being Chris Evans
    4. Since Martin Freeman and Andy Serkis were both in the Lord of the Rings franchise and the only white members of the cast, the people on set would often refer to them as the Tolkien White Guys

    I really want more movies where a black cast isn't just telling another slave/Jim Crow/hood story. Some exist, like Raising Dion, but most don't. Also, the Dora Milaje are said to be based on the Mino of the Dahomey tribe in Africa. While there is a movie coming out about them, the truth is that the story of them was a lot more tragic, than the movie is assumed to imply. Against the French, they were almost wiped out while only killing 6 French soldiers. The bayonets reached out so much farther than the swords the Mino were using. Another also said that their job did involve kidnapping people for slavery, which was very common in the world at the time. There are many interesting stories out there, though. Warrior queens like Nzinga Ndambe and Amina, a Congolese king who helped free many Brazilian slaves, to Mensa Musa being the richest man in history. Most aren't really explored.

From his intro, he poisoned a museum curator because her ancestors took items from another culture. Then he takes a mask of another culture - not even for education's sake but because he was just "feeling it". Not only did he kill someone, he did the same exact thing he spoke against.
