Futurama: How does it present an awful version of the future (or our current reality?)
When you think of the future, do you picture a better world? If you just thought "yes," maybe you were born in 1950. Otherwise, chances are you're imagining a techy dystopia not unlike the one we see in Futurama. Come learn how Futurama embodies our worst dreads about the future in this Wisecrack Edition on Futurama: Why the Future Will be Awful.

THERE'S SO MUCH OUTSTANDING TECHNOLOGY AVAILABLE there but I can't use it cause I need experience for that. Only issue is in order to get that experience, I need a job. And in order to get a job......I need experience. So basically, I gotta work for free for rich assholes for about 2 years (in my relevant field which makes things tougher) to build experience and then *MAYBE* they'll give me a one time contract. Meanwhile guys who have connections and are less qualified than me are working in NIH as we speak *BOTCHING COVID TESTS* . It's a corrupt inescapable fucked up system.

The shade of your collar is only relevant to get you focused on meaningless internal stratification between you and other members of the working class so as to hold all of you back. You are all being exploited for a precious and irreplaceable commodity: your lifetime. The more you throw it in for free the better the deal for those who do own the place. Take it from me, I'm one of them.
Your education: I contributed nothing to it, yet you poured in what, 3 years, 4? Even paid for it? Your experience, exposure whatever? I want you on a discount or free of charge.
You see, my productivity is not really knowable because I have no real idea what I'm doing, but it's better when you're cheaper, this much I do know.

And the more time moves forward, the more expendable human labour becomes by being replaced by machines that can work more efficiently AND don't need basic requirements like pension, salary and health insurance or even breaks to function (Though they do need maintenance). My focus is to use the job market as a stepping stone. To generate enough income to start my own sustainable business in the future. I'm young. I have ideas. I have time, patience, work ethic. Actually, if you look at history, things are getting consistently better. There are setbacks of course, but most of the time it's only our brain tricks us into thinking that everything is getting worse, or that there's no escape. This illusion is of course also supported by the media, because it prevents us from even trying to change things.

I do agree with you I think some of the achievements we've made as people have been down played in order to put forward a narrative that the world is constantly getting worse all the time. In some parts of the world things are getting worse but in other parts of the world things are getting better. I do think that what futurama is presenting is possible but at the same time I believe that future tech will make life better even for those in the working class.
I think those who are in a position to abuse their power will have more ability to so due to future tech. I also believe that the working class will also see improvements to their lifestyles such as improved healthcare and general education but even though they're healthier and smarter they're still working class so they will still be exploited

@@mangalisadlamini6121 Yh it’s basically going to be lots of mini improvements that don’t really change the fundamentals of economics (atleast until robots do all the work allegedly)
Think about what working class meant in 1900
Think about that compared to a peasant in in the 1400s
Compare that to bing a subject of a god king in 12th Century BCE Mesopotamia
Compare that with being an hunter gatherer barely finding enough food
And now compare that with being basically a smart primate in Africa being hunted by big cats
We’ve gotten better but life isn’t perfect, I doubt it ever will
But there’s a narrative things are worse than ever to push whatever political ideology one has. I personally find it amusing that both extremes Arlen back to the 50s and 60s as the golden age
The conservatives complain about moral decline and the progressive complain about labor decline
When by almost every metric the vast majority of us live better lives today and almost certainly baring a royal fuck up from our species will live a better life in the 2060s
Changes will need to occur no doubt but we should stop with this BS were living in a dystopia shit.

There will be no working class in the future, because robots will do everything. It could happen as soon as next decade, and I highly doubt it will take much longer. The progress in AI research is insane, even month-by-moth there's significant change.
The only question is what will happen to the people. Ideally we'll all be rich by today's standards. But it could go the other way, the ruling elite could decide that the other 99% of the population is now useless and a threat, so they instruct the fully automated military to kill everyone. The scary thing is that I don't see a middle ground, only the two extremes are stable. And looking at American politics, I'm not optimistic.

    • @mangalisadlamini6121
      @mangalisadlamini6121 3 года назад +1

@@andrasbiro3007 I do think that's a possibility. If the elite of of today's society were to gain a monopoly on super advanced AI tech and robotics they could probably take over the world at the detriment of the lower classes. wide spread poverty and suffering would become a reality.
I think as robots get more advance I think we should step further away from capitalism and head towards socialism or even give communism a second try. i believe this would be the best way to prevent the capitalist elite form leveraging their wealth to gain a monopoly on super advance robotics.

In order to meet the amount of work provided, I literally have to break regulations.

Weird as it sounds, I always thought Futurama was kind of optimistic. Despite all the problems that persist, humanity apparently solved at least enough of them to keep on living and expand throughout much of the universe. Not only that, but the human race has successfully integrated into a massive, interstellar community, full of various intelligent aliens and artificial lifeforms, all of which have equal citizenship on Earth, implying a human race that has generally grown impressively tolerant of even extreme diversity. And honestly, I was always a little skeptical of how much the whole "assigned a job through a career chip" thing was set in stone. Fry works several dozen jobs throughout the series, implying that the career chips don't necessarily lock anyone into a single career path forever. I always just figured he stayed a delivery boy most of the time because he was a lazy moron with no ambition (prove me wrong). It was optimistic in the same way the Star Trek was, implying that humans as we are now, have the ability to carry on into the future.
