Mat work takes some pretty solid nerves. One slip and you are part of that pond. At least you have something bigger to get it out with now if it ever happens. Nice vid
Great videos I have watched. Finally got a chance at the age of 60 to run a Cat 345 for a time before breaking kneecap on the tracks as I exited to take a break. Wish I had a chance for more time in the seat. Fun machine; loaded and hauled many of them, but only a short time in.
On vacation last week driving through Wiscosin on the way to Minneapolis I couldn't believe how many miles of mud mats they had for high voltage electric line install they had platforms at every pole and a wood mat road running at least 10 miles. That is just what I could see from the interstate.
The DAPL (Dakota Access Pipeline) rolled through here a year ago and left 4 or 5 stacks of these (the size of houses) with a sign that read "free cull mats". I sent you a message about it. There are still quite a few there
I know this is a dumb question, but how do you determine when to use the mats. I love watching a excellent operator cus there are no wasted motions A medicre operator is wasting to much time getting the bucket where he wants to.
Jim Clark cost and hrs till replacment vary greatly per size and brand of machine. Alot of people run them till destruction or till you run out of adjustment
have you ever see "DuckGirl 89"? I was always impressed by your skills but after I seen her you need to practice your skills. The first time I watched her all I could do was shake my head. Give her a view.
Can see why you need the mud mats from how easily the bucket is going into the sediments. Probably would lose the excavator for days without the mud mats.
Yeah, then you have all the ground around the shore line to repair too. Keeping the Ex in the pond minimises damage to turf and where hes working will all be underwater once the level returns to its peak.
They made same dragline excavators today, they are just duty cycle cranes with the drag line and they do pretty much the same thing, and move around on their crawlers. Liebherr and Sennebogen make their own. They are pretty common site in gravel, coal and sand pits.
It's a kind of artistry and fascinating to watch. When we watch people who are masters at their craft it is real entertainment.
One of the smoothest excavator operators, if not the smoothest , that I've watched on videos! If I had a job to be done, I'd want this man on the job!
Brings back memories of beaver dam busting & swamp draining. Been a while since you've published a video using mats.
Should have made a sand castle with the Volvo.
Very interesting. I no nothing about your work. I was really impressed how you brought the road with you, for your excavator. Very ingenious.
Why use the digging bucket? Do you not use a wider bucket shift way more dirt quicker? Just curious.

Great video, it is amazing how mesmerising it is, could have watched for hours.
You need a big clean out bucket for this job great video.
I could watch you operate all day. Great flow. look like sand and mud.

Are the mats made out of logs tied together? Looks like 1/2 pure sand and 1/2 pure black clay muck.
Looks like that could get really interesting quickly. Great video like always
Is this the same pond you’re dredging again now?
Very nice operation Chris, you are the expert on pond operation 😎👊👌👊👌👊👌👊😲😲😲😲😂😛😜😛😂😛😜😛
Walkin on water. Now turn mud into wine
Nøderak 0
I would make new pots of coffee all nite to watch you working!...what an incredible pleasure it is....thanks for the videos
That looks so soupy wet , that a feather would sink 5 ft lol how are you liking that machine?
Looks more sandy than mud?
Skills to pay the bills....

RUclips Garden where at?
yeah i remember that. that would be a nice gig to get them, im sure after sitting a year they are starting to rot in the pile now
letsdig18 Aren't they pressure treated? In a stack I assume they'd be fine.
Are those 4x4s or 6x6s and how are they bound together? As always, thanks for the video.
8x12" slabs
Wow, Special order stuff I would imagine. I don't suppose you went to Home Depot for those....lol. Thanks. How did you hold them together?
I know this is a dumb question, but how do you determine when to use the mats. I love watching a excellent operator cus there are no wasted motions A medicre operator is wasting to much time getting the bucket where he wants to.
i just stick the bucket in the ground, if it sinks out of sight then i know i need mats
You don't get but one chance to get that right...LOL
Get a dragline.
Saw them and wondered what material is used to make mud mats, and the fabric answer does not seem close to what you use. Help?
they are wooden timbers bolted together
Chris! you always make things look so easy. A great job there on fixing the pond.
There was a freeway job here in Az where they had a 2 foot crust then 30 feet of goop under that had to be overexcavated.
I know there are variables, but on average how often do you need to replace or rebuild the tracks on an excavator and what is the cost?
Jim Clark cost and hrs till replacment vary greatly per size and brand of machine. Alot of people run them till destruction or till you run out of adjustment
Such a pleasure to watch
What the heck are those mats for Chris? Didn't you say that you could walk on water with one of those bad boys? LOL
Was it just me or did the pump sound like it was making a lot of noise? Like it was low on oil or making air in the system.
volvos sing that song
When you dump the bucket and swing, why do pull the bucket in then back out to grab the next bucket?
more control over the machine. with the stick all the way out it takes alot of power to get it to stop swinging..
letsdig18 as I dump, I try to swing back left to get next bucket so in always high and extended. Then it is down to dig. Swing brake don't get used
I'll send some vids!!
Where the heck is all the sand coming from anyway? Dirt around the pond does not look sandy.
washing down in the stormwater from the erroding creek banks
Back to your roots ? Nothing like eastern Carolina sand
I walk on water with only 4 mats 🖐️🙂
The light colored stuff you start out with, is it sand or mud?
Looks like sand in my eyes
Same here, very loose and dry sand that will take no weight what so ever. Can't say I've ever seen anything like it either.
Just walk on out there......guy's got huevos!
Excellent!

I had been wondering why I was not seeing new vids of yours in my feed. I just looked and RUclips had unsubscribed me from your channel. Weird
Lotta goop. Quick machine. Moves the goop fast.
have you ever see "DuckGirl 89"? I was always impressed by your skills but after I seen her you need to practice your skills. The first time I watched her all I could do was shake my head. Give her a view.
Richard Paton but they don't really do the same work it looks like she does a lot on roads and stuff and he does a lot more earth moving
DUCK GIRL 86

cool
You dont have a ditch buket
where is BIGFOOT..
With an old fashioned dragline, the machine could stay on shore, and no mats would be needed.
Fedex him a dragline.. im sure he'd use it

I hear draglines are difficult to operate though
160 right ?
JohnDeere496091 sure isn't the 290
Vasiliy Dronov lol
I would brick myself doing that lol
