Chris, you have my admiration. You have a sharp mind a great work ethic, and lots of skill in what you do. In particular, this “Venture into quicksand” illustrates that. Obviously you’ve turned that into success. Kudos!
One of your best and possibly the best utube video I've witnessed . Your monologue of the " quick condition " in silted sand while pond is being drained by siphoning , which is contributing to the quick condition , is perfect . Whew !
@Geo Thomas Lol you've gotta be a pretty arrogant operator if you never experiance the pucker factor, either that or you dont care about equipment. Wouldnt want you on my crew!
I have often wondered... Chris is so good at fixing pond dams better than they were.. I think if I had a pond to drain, especially when it's not really needed for anything profound, rather than siphons, I would have him just tear a channel in the dam. drain it completely, let it set several weeks then go in and dredge out the sludge. then he could repair the dam. And all that good silty soil could be spread on a field.
@@mirage4014 I spent my early yrs in Sydney but after getting married to a military guy we moved around a few times. I've lived in 4 states of Australia so far, now living in Qld.
No, the shortest I lived in an area was just over 2 yrs and the longest (including where I grew up) was a bit less than 12yrs. The funny thing is I moved more before I met my husband and after we separated than I did while we were together (which was 19yrs). Most moves were around the same state though (NSW). I've now been in Qld for almost 12yrs.
that sounds so boring to watch him dig for an hour but i cant seem not to stand around and watch someone operate a machine as they dig for an hour or two !! LOL I wonder why we are so amazed when big toys play in the dirt and mud ????? HAHA I would also like to just watch an hour long unedited video of this dig process...
I will admit,..this one had my full attention,...working on quick sand is something that I don't think I have the nerves for. I'm glad though, that you do Chris. It does make for interesting video to watch.
I own a couple Deere excavators and it is so nice to switch between buckets Iike your digging to you cleanup it’s a dream two bolts on quick coupler it’s awesome
Chris, of all the years I have watched YT videos your channel has been my favorite to watch. One day all have a small excavator or backhoe for me and my 6 year old to run. Bsafe in all of your projects.
Man, those mats have paid themselves off, many, many times. 😁 Actually, you should make a video on the mats, like what they're made of, how to take care of them, what to look for when buying them .. stuff like that. i mean, they sure have saved your ass plenty of times, they're worth a little scrutiny.
Man awesome videos I've watched you for about 4 years now and I love it. Love your Volvo's there tough machines. I tell you man you need a Rotobec grapple saw or just any grapple saw that'll hook up to your machines, would make it alot easier for you and you would probably enjoy having one.
Lol Lets dig I dont think that Volvo would let ya run. IT starts sinking and you start running that bucket would catch up and say NAHH were a team bro..blub blub :)
Have you thought about using a larger bucket for jobs like this to move more material at a time? This looks like a good project I can't wait to see! Love your vids!
I know you get concerned but at least you have a plan when you start. Moving the stream over is a great idea. Do the rock check dams work if they are maintained correctly? I have complete faith in your abilities. Where you have an advantage is your years of experience where others might fail.
That looks like a fairly new Volvo digger, what's up with the absence of the "Rototilt" attachment? Makes every job so much easier! Great video by the way! Keep it up!
As you remove sand and dirt from the water your ecavator is vibrating making the material below you flow into the voids you made. Thus your excavator starts going down.
When I was in the FD in Virginia they were building a bridge and a operator was walking a track hoe on pads. He slipped off the pad on the cab side and the machine went over. When we got there the cab was crushed in and he was pinned in the cab in the mud under the water. He didn't survive. Love your videos Be Safe!
When I was a lineman, we were setting poles on islands near Cumberland islands so they would have electricity. As long as the tide was up we could work and set poles and run wire. We had to put what we called bog shoes on the poles so they didn’t sink. When the tide was out we would have to crawl . If we stood up we would sink. One guy sunk so bad we used a boat and rope to pull him out. I must admit the sand gnats or no see ens was the worst part of the job
As a child of the seventies, I thought quicksand would be a much larger part of my adult life.

He did that so that he could run out if something goes wrong and the excavator starts sinking.

Oh, you didn't see that guy standing over there with a beer.
It's raining.
Exactly
Balls of steel. One hell of an operator .
seen a lot of excavator operator, you are really good with that machine.
we get maybe 1 really good for 10 average operator usually. keep on digging
That is the most gentle I have ever seen an excavator be with mats! Good on ya!
Great video Chris. I’m really interested in this project, and I’m not sure why!? I think it might be the pucker factor!! Lol
Keep up the great work!!

I find this very relaxing your videos

Might need some of them yeller arm floaties on those jobs. I agree with leaving the door open for the when it hits the fan acrobatic bail out mode.

Always enjoyable... thanks for uploading. PS the roof also has an escape hatch --if, you leave the window down....

Great to watch. You know how to work that machine bud. Amazing.
it still amazes me that the mats can hold all that weight. nice job stay safe brother.

At least you had a fresh toothpick to chew on! 😉 nice work my friend can definitely see your an experienced operator! 👍🏻

I would say I would wear the brown pants. but the pucker factor so tight it wouldn’t matter anyway.
I think he likes the challenge have you looked at his earlier videos when he is clearing out Beaver dams?
Just a quick comment. Why not get a mini drag line with a 5 cu yd, bucket and a 60' boom. That would be ideal for all the pond and mud work you do.
2:36 nope! Screw that.
That could become an emergency in a hurry.
Hope you have GREAT Insurance.

Do you ever work with dry dirt? Yeah, I know 😉
Thats like rolling over pudding.
Question. Couldn't baffles be placed upstream to slow down the amount of silt getting into these ponds ?
