  • Major progress on the homestead transformation. We rented Dirt Perfects Caterpillar 304 mini excavator to reshape and grade the slope on a failing ditch. Then we end up with his Kubota Skid Loader and his harley power rake to finish it all off. The project turned out great and we are set up for the next major step on the youtube yacht project. Hope you enjoy!

    Hey Capt. So here's my 2 cents on the live stream idea. It sounds great and I'm sure people would tune in. This might be a little surprising coming from a viewer but I personally wouldn't do it. Doing youtube is great and all but it's already pretty invasive on your life. Going live would make it even more so. In doing my project, I've scaled back on taking video since I felt it was getting in the way of just enjoying the time with the family and creating those memories. No matter what anyone says, when the camera is rolling, you act/do things different. i think you're doing really well with the way you're doing things now and personally wouldn't invest more time into this. Not sure if any of this makes sense but there you go. Feel free to email me if you ever want to chat more. See ya buddy!

    To be honest im not the biggest fan of live stream just because the video quality isnt as good, always laggy video feeds etc. Granted i dont know if they ever had it hardwired fiber while live. Id say run the power and cable because you can, then relax and give it a second thought. Worse comes to worse you'll have power and internet at another spot on your property which everyone enjoys.

  • @jaquigreenlees
    @jaquigreenlees 4 года назад +3

    A way to test the livestream is to do what Indiana Diesel does when he is live, use your smart phone while going over the days plan live and you can see comments somewhat to respond to them. He usually only does 5 to 10 minutes of livestream. Use the community section to post when you will be live a day before so people can try to catch it if they want to see it.
    Running power out, good idea to set up a construction power station, charge batteries for tools that use them, cameras etc.
    Running cable or fibre-optic line, unless you plan on putting them into the RUclips Yacht, would be wasted money.

  • @ConstructionMachineryChannel
    @ConstructionMachineryChannel 4 года назад +5

    I think you could use the live stream to promote a new video. For example, do a live stream where you explain what you are doing (land clearing for example) and then stream yourself setting up and getting started, but don't record the complete land clearing. '
    End the live stream telling viewers that the complete video will be published the following day.
    Sometimes I don't watch live streams if I missed them live. This way the viewer can catch the short live stream and then get ready for the full followup video.

    Livestreams are great for MLMers who are building followers who will happily stimulate additional product sales through their live stream energy (more begets more). That’s when it’s working….otherwise it smacks of cult leaders addressing their acolytes. Separately, I find the people that host livestreams are more structured and focused on delivering a message with intent or else they come off as an indulgent hot mess. Lastly, if you have something like a nesting animal that people will pop in and voyeur at any time of day, it can serve as an attraction tool to grow a channel…I mean who else has baby hummingbirds (or eagles)?.
    If I were you, I would run what you brung….people like to hear you talk about what you are doing in the moment (your 30-45 minute videos) while you sometimes think out loud or even let a bit of goofiness (autism/turrets/whatever) leak out into your moments. Whatever….so longs as it’s real, and honest, and just you being you. Keep your focus on your projects while peppering in content on general maintenance, repairs, etc….dreaming with reality! Boom baby

    Hey Cap! I think that an occasional live stream here and there would certainly enhance the overall experience if your channel. I may have missed it but are you saying that there isn’t currently power going to the Yacht site? I think that having power, WIFI, etc. is something that needs to be at the RUclips Yacht Site. I wouldn’t overdo it with the live streams but I think that with the proper content, they would be enjoyable to watch. As you also said, having some user interaction would be very cool.
    One final thing, you mentioned, not in this video, but previously, that RUclips is no longer sending notifications of new videos. I know that I am getting notified from many of the other channels I subscribe to, so I am wondering why not yours? I did notice that I am not getting any notifications on Dirt Perfect either. Very strange. Do the other channels have a way of sending out notifications? Not sure why I get notified from some, and not from others. I got a nickle. I don't know how many channels you follow, but Nick over at Welker Farms does live streams sometimes during harvest, planting or spraying crops and he usually gets a lot of viewers, but they have a really big channel now. So it would depend on what you are working on or with how interactive you can be, he is in Montana and except for some power poles and the odd well head, there is nothing to hit with a machine out their fields. I would also suggest you and DP check them out just for the drone footage Nick gets while farming. Not that either of you are bad at getting drone shots, I don't want to sound mean, just thought you might get some ideas from him.
    Running power out to the barn would be a good idea if for no other reason that you could break up the cost by doing it in sections. I know you could dig the trenches yourself but you might save yourself a headache if part way through trenching DP needs the machine you are using and you might not get a chance to finish until later.

    Cap’n you asked a fair question... you know, your fan base goes far and wide. Most of the time, we deal with Virtual Mike... Real Time Mike is rarely available... except in the odd live stream. Just think about the wealth of knowledge and advice you could be subjected to if Real Time Mike had fans in the middle of his work.
    With that thought in mind.... what is it going to take to filter all the BS from the helpful hints? Figure that out and you have your answer. As for me, I’d enjoy the opportunity to provide a few of my many free services to your success! (Or, more likely, create a failure!)
    The roadside looks fantastic! It’s definitely an upgrade.
    FYI... I left a Neighbor Donnie story on the video where you were making the gate.

      Sassafras Valley when this cabin is all done I’m giving you and Donnie a free night so I can get the real experience. How is he on heavy equipment? Either way, it will be productive or good for RUclips.

      Captain Kleeman ... thanks but, I think I’ll ask for a separate night... don’t know if I can keep a straight face with Neighbor Donnie around all night!!!

    Livestream could be cool if you could possibly talk your pretty wife into being the narrator while you are actually doing the work. It would be a way to get her more involved with the RUclips series?

    Capt. I thing it would be a good idea that way we can see your progress on the property and having an electric on a job is always a plus charging cordless batteries light so you can see after dark all the wonderful things that electricity can do for you I so I agree go ahead and do it

    Your idea for live streams is a great one! If that doesn't work out, at least you have power out there for tools while building. Sassafras has a point as well.....I'm sure you can figure out a way to deal with that though.....you know, like not listening to our "advice"....thats always the smart move anyway. Haha.

    I think that would be a great idea. To be able to see the progress as it goes then maybe be do a recap video after a couple of weeks of all the progress that was done. That way you could answer any questions then. Then if there was any concerns people could help with comments if you need help. And if you have the Mrs. on board then you understand that you will be live and showing people all the things. I am sure you have thought about this before you asked. I like to see the work as it is being done. Thanks for the great videos and keep them coming

    Livestream of the build would be cool.
    Born & raised upstream from you, always looked forward to the towboat videos. Many a summer nights fell asleep to the drone of a tug pushing up the river towards 6 mile island.
    Keep up the great work.
    I know what the other idea is, you’ll just have to wait until the next video to find out.

      Les Ransom oh where at? You’re right about the that, they have a soothing sound when they push by. Unfortunately we had a drone vs tree incident and won’t be having any towboat videos for a while.

    Live streams are nice if you can interact and reply to comments along the way. If you can’t do that, then edited are better because you can time laps and such to make it move along smoother for us. A long live stream would be too long for many to keep their attention.

    You know you’re going to run power and fiber optic out there eventually so in my opinion (2¢ Canadian but I’ll have to give you a nickel since we don’t have pennies any longer) it wouldn’t hurt to run it sooner than later as long as you definitely know where you want to locate the meter.
    Being able to livestream would be cool but not worth running the fiber optic just for that only.

    Another awesome video as always and ditch look great capt. You and Wifey could talk about maybe doing some test run live Q and A shows or some other content see how those go and then discuss making the investment of putting electric and fiber out there. That also would be good content for a mini series of you putting power and fiber out there
