- Hair dye and color products don't have to be toxic like in the past. There are many natural herbal based hair product companies nowadays to choose from and Cara Brotman mentions a few of them, plus demonstrating using one on herself. Cara has hair that naturally turns blonde easily so it doesn't require much, so she just leaves it in for less than half the recommended time. Some of the brands she recommends are Herbatint, Naturtint and Logona. And I love that you keep yourself so busy, handwashing the floor, cleaning, weeding, etc. I air dry my hair too... so you remind me of me when it comes to keeping busy. Thank you, Cara. Just a warning for darker haired women: I also used to be white-blonde as a child and now have dark blond hair with blonde highlights. I used the "golden blond" color of Harbatint to touch up my roots. it came out really badly: instead of a golden tone it came out swamp brown with a rusty red. So I'm going to the salon to get it fixed first thing tomorrow!

LOVE this product! No chemical smell whatsoever! Ultra gentle and great grey coverage! Love it so much I bought the shampoo and conditioner off Amazon. And most of all, my hair didn't fall out after coloring my hair!

I used to use both Herbatint and Naturtint. Both still contain ingredients like propylene glycol, so I quit. I use plain henna instead, and it also covers up my gray and my hair feels incredible since I switched. Very soft, glossy and thick

I use pure henna on myself as well as my daughter's hair, it makes it so soft and shiny.
TennisBlossom it feels dry at first, for the first few days, and it smells like dirt. It coats your hair shaft, rather than penetrating it, so it protects it against breakage. I wash my hair once a week but condition it every night, and I don't get any build up. I mix equal parts of dark brown, light brown and burgundy together. I heard black henna is supposed to be toxic, or cause skin reactions

one little hack to protect your scalp and make Hair dye less damaging to your Hair is coconut oil
i massage coconut oil in to my scalp and cover at least 4 inches of my hair
preferable let i sit for 2 hrs ,then apply your color right over it
it prevents your hair from drying out due to coloring it and also creates a barrier between your scalp and the dye
works like a charm

Paula's Life the company is called All-nutrient. But a little side note. All color has some type of chemical in them, even hennas. That's how the color stick to the hair. You want something that is mostly plant-based. That's what I use. Plant-based products. ❤ Hope this helps

Hi Cara, I have been using Herbatint for several years. They have a application kit with the tools in it so you don't have to use a spoon. When timing is done get in shower and rinse dye off and use the conditioner NOT the shampoo which will wash some dye off. Shampoo a day or so later.

Lemons & Lemon juice is all my mother used to use when she was younger. Just putting it out there if someone blond can use this! I'm dark brown and I have done lemons/juice too. It makes nice light brown streaks.
You can buy a refillable ketchup or condiments bottle at the dollar store to use as an applicator. Thanks Cara, for these great natural vegan hair coloring!

Omg! I almost just started moving because I only have a tub, but the sink would be a great place to get my hair cleaner
A tail comb and color applicator brush would have made it easier to apply. But job well done with a plastic spoon!!! Cara, you rock!!

Aloha Cara, here on Kauai that’s the thing to do dry hair naturally in the sun and trade winds. May I just suggest as a hairdresser (30 +yrs) you don’t need to shampoo hair color out. Conditioner is more than enough to get the color residue of the hair, well with water of course and friction with the hsnds. Lol

Also when you’re just retouching your roots you can mix only half of the bottles and save the rest for the next time! 👍
