- Among chain restaurants, Ruth's Chris Steak House is among the top upscale dining experiences. It started more than 50 years ago with one location in New Orleans, and has since grown to more than 100 restaurants throughout the world. If you've ever dined there, you likely know a few of the signature flourishes: very hot plates, butter on the steaks, cooking steak with a specialty broiler.
But there are likely some things about the chain you don't know, too. Whether they're behind-the-scenes scandals, employee complaints, or little-shared details about the dining experience, here's what Ruth's Chris doesn't want you to know.

What do you order at Ruth's Chris?
Anyone who spends this much for a piece of meat is a fool...PT Barnum was right. This is all about being seen and having people know you were there. Period.
No.
not a thing kinda fond of my arteries
Only ate there once…the service was impeccable! The spinach salad and desert…crème brûlée were my favorites. The rest of the meal was ok. It was nice to experience first class service.
I've eaten at Ruth's Chris many, many times. I worked in mattress sales at a national chain for 7 years and we used Ruth's Chris to do almost every company function that involved food and drink. The funny thing is, although I can definitely afford to go, I've never actually paid for a meal at Ruth's Chris. I'd honestly rather go an Outback or Texas Roadhouse for a steak instead of Ruth's Chris. Even though I know every steak served by Ruth's Chris is Prime cut and the steaks served by other steak houses are probably Choice (at best), I feel like there's such better value for the money spent at the other national chains. If I'm ever wanting a truly special experience (and willing to spend the money for it), I've always been able to find a locally owned restaurant to provide a far better experience for the same money I'd spend at Ruth's Chris. In other words, I just don't think they're worth the money they're charging.
The moral of the story: If you want the meal to really stand out in your memory, find a place that's owned by one of the people working there.
When I asked my waiter if the restaurant ever served steak raw, he replied, “Yeah, but it’s rare.”
I first ate at Ruth Chris at least 20 years ago. It was a birthday gift dinner for me.There was a maitre d, and several waiters , to serve the two of us. He would summon them, to our table to take care of our requests. Not for a moment were we kept waiting for anything. I caught a glimpse at the bill, which was a bit over $100.000 that's not counting the generous tip, the person I was with left. Flash forward to a couple of years prior to the pandemic, being near a Ruth Chris, unexpectedly, I took myself there for lunch. The service was horrible, even though the dining room had no one in there when I arrived, and only filled up shortly after my arrival with just one or two people, who were promptly waited on. I finally went to the host who seated me, to voice my complaint and get a waiter. Now, that I hear, how this restaurant is run differently, I see why things were so different now. I did enjoy my steak, but noted the quality was not the same as before, or maybe it was the way, it was cooked. This is not to say, it wasn't delicious. It was lunch, so the prices were appropriate for the type of establishment, I was in. The fact, when I don't remember prices exactly, means they were appropriate for a place like Ruth Chris , located in a higher priced section, in a major city. I don't really have the desire to eat at Ruth Chris's again in this lifetime. Nothing, I feel can match up to my first ever dining experience there for my birthday.
I had to do a double take when I saw what you listed as how much the bill was. I'm sure you meant $100.00 not $100,000.
@@donmckinney4091 No. He used a period between the first 100 and the last 000. It was everywhere else he went rampant with the commas that probably confused you.
@@watchyourtimeco1 -No it was the way it was listed-$100.000 instead of $100.00 which is why I had to do a double take.
@@donmckinney4091 I kinda knew you understood it. I just saw the proliferation of commas in his post and couldn't resist making a bad joke about them. I guess it's a good thing I'm not a comedian by trade.
@@watchyourtimeco1 -LOL no offense taken I knew you were just joking!
For their incredible reputation, I've eaten there twice--for the price, it was good but far from great. Here in Charlotte there's a non-chain place called Beef & Bottle...it's old school rustic, the steaks are better, and the prices are lower. I wouldn't bother with Ruth's Chris ever again.
@phantomgourmet Nice showing here!
Bendiciones
I go to the ruths chris by me all the time in gym clothes, haha. Going there tonight for the bone in NY. Only a lib would hate the hot plates. come on! That is the experience and reason to go to Ruths!
Love Ruth's Chris
Went on the corporate expense account 1995-2015. Would never spend my money like that.
Yes, the NAME is sort of lame, awkward sounding for such a "high end" steak house. And the prices are very over priced.
It's the typical chain that appeals to people that think they are being fancy or treating themselves so way overpay for the level of quality for what you pay. If you're going high end steak, much better options in any major city in most cases.
*I guess Fabulous didn’t wanna tell this part of Ruth Chris steakhouse in his rap song!!*
...They're steaks come from bulls that die from overdosing on steroids.
I had dinner there once, not worth the inflated prices in my opinion.
We don't have those in Washington.
which Washington? Seattle and Bellevue Washington both have restaurants
@@cleigh8753 really?I've never heard of the place.lol
No Ruth Chris slander shall be tolerated literally my fav restaurant
Oh well
That’s pretty shocking 👌👌
i went to them in boston
they suck!!!!
Ruth Chris Mexico City is great. Orlando not great.
I'm glad I have never been rich enough to be able to afford such conspicuous consumption. I've heard of Ruth's Chris, but never been there. Engineers rarely make that kind of money and usually are too smart to overspend on products just for the attention.
It's not that expensive for an occasional treat. But there are better steakhouse options if your in major city. It is overpriced for the quality.
@@johniii8147 Not in a major city (pop. of my city is about 300K) but I'm close to Nashville, TN and Birmingham, AL. Maybe I should try to get out more? :)
@@robertekis2450 Yes maybe you should get out more. Nashville will be the better option since it's not Alabama and has some great restaurants if you pick well.
Except, almost no small business actually got it. The banks didn’t wanna do the paperwork for millions of small businesses. And so today a lot of small businesses are in debt.
I HAD BEEN TO A RUTH AND CHRIS STEAK HOUSE RESTAURANT TOO AND IT IS VERY GOOD AND AWESOME TOO
Ruth's Chris is overrated and overpriced. There are far better steakhouses almost anywhere.
RCS locations are independent franchises. The food is absolutely amazing. I have enjoyed dining in various locations and have never been disappointed in the meal or the service.
Rather average for supposedly high end steak house. And the franchise thing is exactly the problem. Quality varies wildly and can't compete with truly great steakhouses. People go there because it's a brand they know.
With all due respect it's only takes a few people and it's easy to sign your name on a class action suit nothing to lose a lot to gain
Ruth's Chris Steakhouse's business speaks to its quality. Down vote for trashing an business that is successful and employs your neighbors. Boo!
Oh my goodness, can her whiney voice get any more irritating? I will continue to eat at Ruth' Chris. This negative Nelly pushing some agenda to try and make her an internet star is making me more eager to go, again.
I agree with her on most points having eaten at far better world class stake houses. It's a chain. The really good ones are not.
Agree - not a good choice in the voice
