- Mom had to make a choice, stay with her eaglets and take the chance Shadow would return again without food for the eaglets or let Shadow take over brooding while she goes to look for food.
You can see the anguish as she rises, looking at the eaglets, looking at the nest with no food for them to eat. Shadow flies in with no food, Jackie is reluctant to leave but she has mouths to feed.
After studying the nest, Shadow takes over brooding. Mom retruns with prey and a short stand off takes place. She wants to feed the eaglets, Shadow doesn't want to get up. Mom wins out and finally gets to feed!
Shadow is young and inexperienced in this phase of raising eaglets. Life doesn't come with an instruction manual and some things have to be learned by watching. I have faith he will catch on and be a great provider given time.
So far, brooding seems to be Shadow's favorite part of fatherhood. 😏
I loved how she remained very patient as she waited for her Mate to get up off her babies so she could feed them. And I’m also always fascinated at how gentle a powerful bird of prey like this can be with their offspring.
It was Shadow’s first season as a dad. He has been alert, diligent, willing and persevering. His efforts are now apparent in what is set to be an outstanding 2020 season. Thank you so much Knarley.

Shadow was a juvie not that long ago, so of course he is going to be inexperienced. I too have faith that he will become an awesome father, with the help of Mom Jackie! We gotta trust the eagles 😃👍❤

Unfortunately, Shadow still hasn't come to the nest with food. Jackie has 3 kids to train and 2 to feed. Hopefully Shadow will get the message.

@@moka9144 Yes, I saw that and cheered. My husband asked me what I was yelling about, LOL. Shadow brought 2 fish this mornin', the 2nd was a biggie. Now waiting for him to start feeding the lil ones. He does watch closely when Jackie does it.
@@TrekkerPat Lol, Pat. Shadow is so eager to learn everything and strives to do everything right. He will certainly also feed soon and I bet he'll want to stuff them to burst and the lil ones will have food all over their faces, LOL.

Peggy Defibaugh baby #1 was the same way on hatching day. #2 is just resting after a long ordeal (hatching is a lot of work) Birds have the remaining yolk sack that will nourish him or her for several hours (at least) it absorbs into the abdomen. I used to have an aviary 😉

It was a UFO, unidentified food object. No way to tell what it was, it had already been eaten on. I would think fish or bird but I'm not sure.
