I hope we see more B-1 Battle Droids in Bad Batch Season 3. Perhaps under the command of General Kalani who refused to obey the instant shutdown code and keep fighting the Republic-turned-Empire.
I wich too. I mean, he can be interesting as characters. A super intelligent droid for military purposes who relie only on statistic doesn't seem that interesting BUT he can learn ! So, seeing him in another context with other people than your regular b1 battle droids can be interesting. We already seen a similar situation with R2 D2 learning and gaining in personality by being with anakin so imagine what this kind of droid model would be capable of !
I would love to see stories about the many Seperatist holdouts across the galaxy. There were many droids who refused to accept the shutdown command or just didn’t receive it and kept on with their last given command. There were a few droid factories that were still active and were still producing battle droids even into the galactic rebellion.
I love battle droids, and I often collect action figures of them. Unfortunately, I'm not always pretty good at taking care of them: my dog chewed up 2 of them, and I lost 2 others (i still keep the chewed ones and try to fix them, but honestly they're beyond true repair). I still have my first non lego droid, but he's a little worn from me carrying him everywhere in my pocket. I guess I am kinda a battle droid abuser myself lol
@@makarzavorin I can never really find action figure commando droids, but I do have commandos for the table top game Star Wars Legion. I'll definitely get an action figure commando someday
In the novelization of 'A New Hope' when Luke and the droids enter the cantina and the bartender gets all prejudiced, Luke decides it's not a good time to speak up for 'droid rights'.
There was also another B1 that turned on to the Republic. I know there plenty of B1s that served the Republic, but Bats actually wasn’t reprogrammed by the Republic. He was hit by a deflected blaster bolt and essentially “came to his senses” before deciding to fight alongside Rex and Obi Wan. And both Rex and Obi Wan chose to rescue Bats showing that they wouldn’t leave him behind, even if he was a clanker.
Even as a kid I felt a lot of emotions for both the clones and the droids and the clone wars show only made those feelings stronger 😢 Edit : The droid saying they should’ve left him alone makes me think of veterans and people with ptsd and it makes me extremely sad
You know AI hasn't gained sentience yet and isn't self aware, droids don't have emotions they have programming. I will admit they do appear to have emotions in the star wars universe but it stands to reason in a futuristic scifi setting, that it could just be advanced programming and AI, but still lacking sentience and emotion.
Pretty sure I heard somewhere that the reason B1 Battle Droid's are so chatty is because their circuitry is so overloaded with information so they can perform a variety of roles that the only way for them to cope is by stress-talking.
Actually in the Revenge of the Sith novelization, Viceroy Gunray was the one who transmitted the shutdown code just before Darth Vader showed up to "take care" of them.
To be fair, a nuke would totally kill robots too. It's basically a giant fire bomb and would melt them to death. The Defoliator was, somehow, even scarier since it disintegrates organic flora and fauna and just leaves empty ruins. Addendum: Yeah, the cantina guy (who doesn't own it, actually) is a jerk but it was, apparently, due to a recent influx of Imperial droids sniffing around the bar that he didn't want droids in there. I'm not saying he loved droids (since there's no Legends data on that that I know of) but there were legit reasons that most people just attribute to droid phobia because who's going to go look up extra lore when analyzing a short bit of a movie from the 1970s?
About the Jedi not caring about the testing of the bomb... just look at the Iron Knights in legends. The Jedi master Aqinos trained the species known as the Shard but the Jedi Council, however, was horrified that Aqinos had taught inorganic crystals about the Force, and felt that they could not truly understand the Force... the Council had Aqinos excommunicated
My D6 RPG character, a force-sensitive droid tech, has built a pair of B1/B2 bodyguard droids. Very useful critters! They have minimal fighting ability, but they come in useful in many respects, from decoying to hauling to laying down cover fire or throwing "Glitter Bombs" (smoke grenades, but with pink-and-purple party glitter). My group has capable fighters, and they can now go to town on the bad guys while my character is protected by Opie and Dopie :)
The B1 Battle Droids were believed to have been modeled after the skeletons of their creators, the Neimoidians. Since Neimoidians are known for being cowardly and timid in confrontations, its likely those traits rubbed off on their favorite droids.
If I was in the SW universe any time after the Clone Wars, I'd like to go around old CW battlefields/Separatist bases and salvage old B1s. I'd disarm, repair, and reprogram them as "labor droids" or something. I'm sure there are tons of planets that were CIS-aligned or neutral and wouldn't mind some cheap labor.
That little twilek girl was afraid of to clones because she thought they were droids . So the clones have to take off their helmets to prove their flaws and blood. What they were RT and 3po
You didn't mention how the reprogrammed B1s volunteered to hold off the separatist pursuers in the Citadel. While under Sith control, I don't think we've ever seen a truly willing sacrifice like that.
I know it's the easy and convenient way to blame Palpatine for everything in the Clone Wars, but that's a huge disregard for Plagueis's involvement in the Spearatist crisis and his manipulation decades before he meets our favorite Sith.
Random Video Idea, How about one that talks about the top 10 heroic B1-Battle Droids? Since we payed respects to the fallen, how about paying honor to the brave and selfless ones😊👍
Brilliant video, Generation Tech! Who knew the B1 battle droids had such a tragic backstory? I used to think they were just the universe's most advanced tin cans. Your deep dive into their existence was as enlightening as Yoda on a caffeine high. And the discussion on AI? It had me questioning my toaster's intentions. Keep up the stellar work, and may the Force (and the humor) be with you!
Perhaps the most messed up (but likely true) joke I can make is that Anakin wasn't screaming because he was screaming in pain ENTIRELY because his balls caught fire.
@@Legonios Not really. They had people looking out for them and were generally at least kept out of the way of harm as much as possible. The clones who were in essence 10 year olds, were not.

The main reason I liked the episode about Jack Black's pleasure world was that we got to see the droid's perspective of things. I've loved droids since I saw this strange movie called "Star Wars" back in 1977.
I look at it as The Clones weren't the only "clones" in the war... Despite being machines they were made for the sole purpose to be mass produced and sent off to be cannon fodder
Ive always imagined having a mercenary separatist army of droids in the star wars universe but no now we have to treat them like people. Can i not have personal army that would not betray me?
Imagine if dooku is redeemed and tells the jedi about the inhibitor chips to remove them and then reveals palpatine was manipulating the war so he runs away to the unknown regions with a portion of clones with their chips and a portion of the droids with grevious and maul. Then we end up with clones an droids against the sith.
One of my absolute favorites tidbits from Star Wars is that fully sentient AI exists everywhere and is seen not as a revolutionary accomplishment of technology but as an mildly annoying and unwanted side afect of whatever widely available base program they base all their droids in the Galaxy on. I believe his highlights just how little the Galaxy at large knows their own technology. They can fix it, copy it, and maybe tweak it. But not recreate or explain it.
It's too bad all those deactivated B1s and other CIS battle droids couldn't have been found, recharged, and pit against the Yuuzhan Vong when they arrived. With their obsessive hatred of machines, imagine how many organic lives would have been saved if the droids could have been used as a distraction -- "operation Droid Shield" as it were.
If I remember correctly Lando constructed some really capable droid soldiers that were modeled after the yuuzhan vong not only were they very hard to kill it was also complete blasphemy
@@GenerationTech thanks for reminding me about them! I had totally forgotten. Yeah, they were cool. Still would have been nice to see some old Clone Wars units get a second shot at greatness though.
I would totally be open with advanced AI. We could also integrate with the technology into humans, making us more efficient and having less complications
R2 was only given a squad for a few episodes because if he had kept the squad post cidatel he would be a threat to palpatine's plan by proving that both sides of the war arent so different
I wish we got a story about some guy in the Outer Rim gathering all Separatist droids and creating a colony dedicated to Artificial Intelligence where all droids are equal to humans and nonhumans. Imagine what such a place could accomplish in terms of industry and technology.

this was very moving and thoughtful and a good reminder of how we should treat people. Coming from a ubiquitous plot tool and Shakespearian-esque stock character without any agency.
This was overdue the b-1s were a punchline. Mechanical fodder still they did what they could. I felt for all droids but they’ were the lowest rung. Thanks ,a lot of footage I missed here. Great presentation.
Honestly when I think about it I never thought about the droid side of the war I always thought they were just machines with no brain of their own but seeing it like this is really sad
This is a rather dark explanation. it's correct, but dark in tone, and the dark background in the vid is a perfect compliment to what you're saying. Well done !
Outside of Star Wars, a really good A.I. faction to examine are the "Kaylon" from the television series, "The Orville." I won't say too much as to not spoil anything, but the Kaylon are a sentient race of androids who occupy and control their own planet.
Probably made them more effective. Marching in straight Napoleonic lines towards gunfire doesn't really work in a modern (or long, long time ago...) battlefield. Fear for one's self motivates to find cover, consider tactics.
The only way the story of the Separatist droid army isn't a tale of slavery, genocide, and atrocity is if you choose to believe that they're not truly sentient beings, but merely sophisticated machines that mimic the behavior of sentient beings in the way that contemporary chatbots do. If you start to believe that the droids of the CIS army were real, conscious beings, then the horror of their existence makes even the Republic clone slave army's pale in comparison. Both armies are prime examples a sci-fi trope - the slave army of 'constructed' or 'artificial' beings - that gives us a deep and disturbing insight into modern Human psychology: our seemingly limitless ability to dehumanize that which is different and deny rights, privileges, or any sort of consideration to beings we deem 'inferior' or 'undeserving' or 'soulless'. Essentially, the entire trope just shows how much we suck as a species.
Can consider droids spiritual they can actually escape body from ☠️. How come no scientist tried to see if they uploaded an organics mind. To escape death. Jedi can read your mind so why Anakin think about Downloading people's consciousness to stop those people from truly dying. And Ironic that the Zarkacc has memories of past victims but he'd have to go into the sand
If only there was a crossover into the DOOM Eternal universe, there would be a UAC official named Dr. Samuel Hayden. He may have expanded the scientific advancement from whatever previous finished products of Sith experimentation as the likes of General Grievous.

This would be awesome, and I'm all for it. ^_^
You wont that ship doesn't do anything but plan for another 5 or 6 years till rebels starts
I would love to see stories about the many Seperatist holdouts across the galaxy. There were many droids who refused to accept the shutdown command or just didn’t receive it and kept on with their last given command. There were a few droid factories that were still active and were still producing battle droids even into the galactic rebellion.
@@therealspeedwagon1451 Same here. (Still waiting for when Rebels start using Droids help them and Clone weapons. >_
Life is hard for a B1. You get blasted, bombed, sliced, and chewed up by (comparatively) gigantic dog.
😮 i didnt have only commando droids
B-1 droid can sing really well
Yes, they were commonly mistreated. But it's not as if there was an infinite supply. Dooku did once mention that they are "quite expensive".
Even as a kid I felt a lot of emotions for both the clones and the droids and the clone wars show only made those feelings stronger 😢
Edit : The droid saying they should’ve left him alone makes me think of veterans and people with ptsd and it makes me extremely sad
The tone in his voice makes it worse. Like kicking the vets returning from Vietnam or something. That's actually probably the point... 🤔
It's less about the fear of the technology but rather the abuse and mishandling of it against man from other men.
You saying "Dolphins last" absolutely earned my respect. Those things are absolute psychopaths.
Pretty sure I heard somewhere that the reason B1 Battle Droid's are so chatty is because their circuitry is so overloaded with information so they can perform a variety of roles that the only way for them to cope is by stress-talking.
Personally, I find it critical that people still think that the Republic, and especially the Jedi, are “the good guys.”
They should make a mini series where a battle droid loses his restraining bolt and goes awal
Looked it up. As usual, Jedi Order made me disgusted even more.
They did Clone and B1 droids working against the sith . On Agobar . In rebels
B-1 Droids are my favorite droids in SW, and top 5 characters in the universe. They deserve love D:
The B1 Battle Droids were believed to have been modeled after the skeletons of their creators, the Neimoidians. Since Neimoidians are known for being cowardly and timid in confrontations, its likely those traits rubbed off on their favorite droids.
Anybody else ever think about how we constantly see B-1s trying to surrender to clones or Jedi and they're universally murdered while surrendering?
This is why I like rebuilt and repurposed B1 Battle Droids like R0-GR, and "B1" from Resistance.
The way I always look at it is that the primary victims of the clone wars, have always been the clones and the droids.
Agreed.
The people were bigger victims
@@Legonios Not really. They had people looking out for them and were generally at least kept out of the way of harm as much as possible. The clones who were in essence 10 year olds, were not.
@@Legonios Most of the people weren't really harmed. Only times that happened were when outer-rim planets were invaded, and even then they didn't really kill anyone.
@@Taskmasterxyz Clones at least were born and made for that, 99% of them were ok with fighting for the greater good, civilians would have their entire planet under a blockade, be bombarded with no protection and kept prisoners
The main reason I liked the episode about Jack Black's pleasure world was that we got to see the droid's perspective of things. I've loved droids since I saw this strange movie called "Star Wars" back in 1977.
The irony is that in the end the clones where nothing more then fleshly droids. Good soldiers follow orders.
the real tragedy of the b-1 battle droid is the clone wars droid voice becoming the standard voice for the b-1 across star wars
If you are such a terrible leader that your army constantly betrays you, why do you deserve an army?
Imagine if dooku is redeemed and tells the jedi about the inhibitor chips to remove them and then reveals palpatine was manipulating the war so he runs away to the unknown regions with a portion of clones with their chips and a portion of the droids with grevious and maul. Then we end up with clones an droids against the sith.
I listened to Aftermath on Audible, fell absolutely in love with Mr Bones
Yeah how could you not love his love for violence ☺️
@@GenerationTech the narration also helped
Ok now that I feel terrible about all the droids dieing, can you make a video about hilarious droid deaths?
Most Star Wars Fans: "Woo space wizards swinging light sticks!"
Me an intellectual: "Those poor metal heads are more human than we'll ever be... 😔"
Wow. Im a big fan of the Droids/CIS since StarWars 1. And this is one of the best videos I’ve seen in Months!
Big thx
Thats tough clanka
RIP ROGER GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
Can't droids be Prepared
One of my absolute favorites tidbits from Star Wars is that fully sentient AI exists everywhere and is seen not as a revolutionary accomplishment of technology but as an mildly annoying and unwanted side afect of whatever widely available base program they base all their droids in the Galaxy on.
I believe his highlights just how little the Galaxy at large knows their own technology. They can fix it, copy it, and maybe tweak it. But not recreate or explain it.
I LOVE Battle droids, but Starwars droids often live such tragic lives.
I couldn’t hold it in me, this made me cry. Long for the days when stories gave me the ability to imagine and empathise
My favorite B-1 is RO-GR from the lego star wars show freemaker adventures hes hilarious
Never knew the full story of Bones kind of sad
I thought I felt sorry for them and droids in general before this, but after this video....damn
What about the poor poor Vulture Droids? Who will spare a thought for their sad plight???
The nighttime setting is chill af. More please
i feel bad for those droids
I really like the comic where a b1 brain gets damaged so his program change and he deserts the battle to find freedom.
Nice to see these toasters getting some love
11:18 That happens in one episode of Star War the Rebels.17:08 Like this one. and one episode of the Bad Batch also.. sort of.
If there is a crossover between Star Wars and Transformers we'd might see a serious argument...
I really liked these guys
this was very moving and thoughtful and a good reminder of how we should treat people. Coming from a ubiquitous plot tool and Shakespearian-esque stock character without any agency.
I see even the GenTech gang been playing that B1 Keane cover on repeat. 🥺 Roger. Roger.
Shout-out to all the droids who fought during and after the clone war...
Well done !
Roger, Roger
Bro Alan is the literal definition of good person
You're crack'in me up Allen !!! 🤣🤣🤣
That droid episode of mando was the best! Doc Brown’s a Dooku truther!
Outside of Star Wars, a really good A.I. faction to examine are the "Kaylon" from the television series, "The Orville." I won't say too much as to not spoil anything, but the Kaylon are a sentient race of androids who occupy and control their own planet.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, giving the droids emotions is an unnecessary and cruel thing to do.
Probably made them more effective. Marching in straight Napoleonic lines towards gunfire doesn't really work in a modern (or long, long time ago...) battlefield. Fear for one's self motivates to find cover, consider tactics.
Fantastic way to represent a potential real world issue in the next few decades. A whole lot of heart put into the writing and narration. Well done!
I feel like grievous should have sympathized with his droids, cuz he mostly is one
