It’ll be a while before I’m playing again (recuperating after 10th spine surgery) but you’ve given me something to look forward too. I just happened upon your channel after getting into bluegrass lately, been playing electric guitar for a while (still need to get an acoustic ;) Thanks for your teaching.
Good stuff brother! Love it and I’m a pro musician. Always learning always searching for new licks! Thanks! Love the way you play through all the lucks first. It’s all I need and don’t have to suffer through endless talking and slow walking. (Ooo that’s a song lyric there!)
Thanks Jonathan! I think I’m using a Tortex Flex 1.14mm in this video but I also have a BlueChip TD-40 that I like. Those are my default bluegrass lead picks currently
I wouldn’t say ANY, but a lot. I’m actually gonna do a lesson in the furniture on how to use all of these licks in a tune like “Roll In My Sweet Baby’s Arms”
This is really good- and don't get me wrong, but it would be better if you could explain what's happening here in terms of music theory. I think that would help me to pin down exactly what's happening with the phrasing, the chord tones and the rhythm. I'm certainly not adept with my ears just yet, but I've spent a while developing a knowledge for notes and intervals and so forth and so on. This almost seems like a pedal tone in a way, and that rapidly changes with the chords. I'm not sure how else to describe what I'm hearing.

Can you add these licks to ANY Traditional Bluegrass number such as Blueridge Cabin Home?
