This lens is permanently attached to my x-pro1 with a homemade HP5 simulation. It’s like going out in the old film days with one lens, one film. Makes you work a little harder for the picture.
I've owned the 18mm f2 twice. Didn't use it much the first time. Wish I'd kept it later on, so bought it again. I use it more on my XE3 than my XT4. In lower light and contrast situations, you have to try to manual focus or set it up for zone focus (as you described).
Loved the content man. I have the OG fuji X-Pro1 with the 35mm (which is the 50mm equivalent). I have shot that lens for years, and I'm looking for something a little wider for taking landscape photos. So this 18mm I feel like is the sweet spot.
Running the Fujifilm: T-X3, X-A1 with Fujinon XF F2 18mm R pancake prime, XF 35mm F2 R WR prime, and the XF 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR (standard vacation lens). I use the EF-X8 flash for that sometimes extra needed light, and for macro photography I use the CEX-16 and CEX-10 Macro rings. The 18mm is one of my all time favourites, next to the 35mm. Still looking for the optimal 70 to 90mm lens.
I think it is cheap-ish if second-hand, not if new (given how plastic-y it feels and sounds, despite its good glass). But, at only 116g of weight, it's amazing as a spare lens in the bag. I carry it in my bag when I'm using my 33mm f1.4 Fuji lens.
I love the 18mm 1.4 and I'm wondering how crazy it might be to switch over to the 18mm f2. I just love the compact form factor! What do you think about this lens for fashion/portrait photography?
that's a pretty unique switch! haha but it's so small and lightweight, I really think it's the best looking lens on the x-pro3. For fashion specifically it could work well - I mean everything I shoot is f/8 anyway, but the focal length isn't necessarily flattering for most portrait sessions when it comes to my style.
If you love the focal length I think it's worth owning both, the pop from the 18/1.4 is very good for fashion/portrait, you don't have the same level of critical sharpness with the f2. But if you do love the focal length, the f2 is a great compromise to carry with you for more casual events where you don't want to be seen having a big camera.
Love the 18mm for close-range portraits and stuff like this. Edge-sharpness is not that good, but this doesn't matter that much for reportage-style photography. I'm shooting this lens with the X-Pro1 and X-T1. The X70 with 18.5mm lens is a great performer as well. Good review!
I still have to give love to the Xpro1, its the "5d mkII" of Fuji and just keeps hanging in there. I will couple that with a 27mm f2.8 lens. Lately, I have shot with a 7artisan 25mm f1.8, but to shoot manual I have to switch the xpro1 into evf since the xpro1 doesn't have the hybrid focus system like the xpro2
Hey what happened to the Xpro-3>? Seriously man. I don't believe you truly buried it. You might be a moustached Tony Hawk hack (love, love) - But no...
it still works! I haven't done anything to be honest, I'm just pretending it never happened. The sub monitor is completely gone, and I don't use the flippy screen anymore - so I simply shoot tethered 100% of the time.

I like your take on how you can use this lens. Different from others. Not easy to differentiate yourself these days. Nicely done ✅

Sweet, glad you liked the content Budi! Hope you enjoy the new lens as much as I have :)

One of my favourite lenses!
Top lense

Is it true the flippy screen breaks a lot on the x-pro 3?
my subpanel monitor died, but the flip out LCD hasn't failed

Good review!
let's not forget how pretty it looks on these x-pro bodies!
I love this lens. No idea why it gets so much hate. I mostly use it on my xe2s, but I also use it on my xt30.
I feel like the weight and feel in the hand with the xe2s must be perfect with this lens! Great choice.
so soft.. small but cheap,,, get the 16mm 2.8
nice review and spot on
I just bought a x pro1 body and this 18mm F2 will be his companion.
What an ergonomically perfect pair you got there.
Nothing is cheap anymore, but some things are less expensive.

Good analogy! Going strong, I love it. Thanks for chiming in, Andy.
Nice video, thanks. Just bought an x-e1 and am looking for a small lens to compliment it for street work. Guess I found it 😊…
great choice! she's a beaut
it's-a me mario!
We go way back.
fuji xe4 + kipon iberit 35mm f2.4 (manual focus)
I shot a xe 3 with a 35mm f1.4 prime
hard to beat a 35 prime! thanks for commenting, have a great day :)
XT2, XS10, XPRO2
If only the lens was good. Try the new 27mm
but that's a totally different focal length!
I done C1 for over 3 years, they are overpriced.....going back to LR and liking it better dude,
Nutella overdose 🤣
