Although this is not the first time that I’ve flown Hawaiian Airlines A330-200 first class from San Diego (SAN) to Honolulu (HNL), it was the first time that I had the opportunity to try their new lie-flat first class product. It did not disappoint!
The reverse-ops reverse runway 9 takeoff didn't disappoint either...
Anyway, this is footage from Hawaiian Airlines flight number 15 from SAN to HNL, showing what my experience was like from seat 3J. The flight time was 6 hours and 30 minutes, and the aircraft registration was N375HA.

I've watched a couple of other Hawaiian Airlines flights, and their concept of first class food doesn't compare well to any other airline. Of course, this is a U. S. domestic flight, and most other videos are international, and the standards are quite different. At least the seating was first-classish, although it's hard to see how a window seat-er could sneak past an aisle guy in full recline, but I'll take SANspotter's word for it.
It would have been more “Hawaiian” with banana pancakes and coconut syrup. But no Hawaiian breakfast is complete without fried rice.
@@alohafromthe3033 agreed. there are alot of simple things they could've done to make the food better and add value. Since it was first class this airline really should've tried harder.
I’m from Hawai’i. Hawaiian airlines business class product is better than U.S. legacy carriers most of the time. However, I rarely fly Hawaiian on inter-Island routes.
I have lived in Hawaii for 8 and a half years, up until June 2022 I havent left the state since I moved there and I remember the first time stepping off the plane was at SAN at about Midnight, I was so Exited

I recently booked a Hawaiian Airlines A330-200 from SAN to HNL for June 2021. It's possible they may change the aircraft on me before then, but it looks like Hawaiian is at least planning to bring the A330 back to San Diego as of spring 2021.

I already miss the Hawaiian airlines A330 in San Diego. I've flown it to Honolulu from San Diego once. It was so good. It's sad that they've swapped to a smaller aircraft. But I hope the 787 will come to San Diego when it comes out.
I think they've put the '330 back in operation for that route. Don't take my word for it tho

Love it. Flown HA at least 50+ times. However, had some anxiety in my adult life and been grounded for a while. Down here in socal too.
I have flown out of and into San Diego countless times since I too live here. And I've never landed or taken off from runway 9. You're so lucky

I’m off to Hawaii for the very first time in July next year with AA on the A321 from LAX, flying into HNL and then departing back to LAX out of KOA. It was great to see a review of Hawaiian, even if it’s not the 717 that I’ll be using for my inter island flight, though your 717 video is great!

We are flying this route in November 22 and Jan 23 and the plane is listed as a A330 for both flight - guess they brought them back

Actually the switch to the a321 is only for the winter months, the A330 will be back at SAN by the summer!
I think it may have to do with Southwest now flying this route also. There are now 8 direct flights daily from San Diego to Hawaii.
Breaking News: SANSpotter Airlines out of business being 500 Billion Dollars in debt.
The funny thing about that is it would probably happen less than 30 minutes after issuing the press release announcing the launch of the airline. 😅
I flew on an Hawaiian Airlines A321from Sacramento to Honolulu and Honolulu to Sacramento and I actually liked it. It’s a really nice airplane.

The a330 is back in service in San Diego now. I have a first class flight this summer on the A330.
Good thing you filmed the A330! they are switching the aircraft to a A321neo next month *which sucks...* I hope they bring the 787 (if possible)
Yeah, I’m hoping to see the HA 787 here eventually. Probably won’t happen for a while though, since they will need those aircraft for premium international routes.

I just came back from a week in Honolulu. Did the LAX-HNL run (Delta though) and yeah, the weather here was cold and rainy, over there it was sunny and warm.

Thanks for NOT being that guy! There’s always one. Flew home to Maui last week and there was THAT girl. We took off from Denver so I can see wanting to enjoy the views of the Rockies. However, when you’re flying over the pacific and you’re seated on the left hand side of the A/C. The sun is blinding! I had to give up and put on my eyeshades.....couldn’t enjoy my movie. It’s inconsiderate but then again most people are inconsiderate these days. BTW I love your videos Scott🌺

Yeah, the incoming Alaska airlines plane in that clip was when I first noticed that runway 9 was in use. I’m surprised I didn’t yell “holy crap!” while recording. 😂 Anyway, yeah...I hope to see HA 787s at SAN eventually! Might be a while though...

Well, this RUclips channel and my blog is my job - so technically, yes, these are business trips. Since I’m still poor 😅, I don’t stay in each location very long - just a day or two. In this case, I was in Honolulu for two days. 👍🏻👍🏻

Ok I just watched the full t/o vid and is it me or did V2 happen relatively quickly after throttling up? Man I miss the buzz saw sound of the engines! Wished the newer a/c weren’t as quiet. I loved how the engines drowned out the F/A announcement! Music to my ears!

Have you ever considered using some gopro lens distortion filters in your editing software? Not for all the shots, just ones with lines that could/should be straight.
Just curious. :)
I have tinkered with a few, but it crops the image so much that there’s so benefit of shooting that wide. I’m trying to shoot less of the super wide angle stuff anyway...that’s an easier solution. 😎👍🏻

That feeling where your at San deigo and runway 9 is in use then your plane is the only one using 27 in the day
On a day flight, open the darn window. it's daytime for crying out loud! I AM THAT GUY! and I would do it again.
I don't get it SANspotter do HA force you to shut the window shades? I'd find it awful to be on a long daylight flight and not be able to see that beautiful sky
They have to compete with Alaskan and Southwest which uses 737s. The A321 is much newer and has better fuel economy. The only narrow body aircraft that can compete with the A321 is the 737 max and everyone knows what happened to those. The cost of fuel for the current A330 is probably higher per passenger than on A321. While less passengers, Hawaiian must feel that the fuel saving out weighs less passengers. They are also estimating how much of their basic economy class passengers will be using Southwest Airlines.
Fast forward a few years the A330 is still going strong to HNL
I so agree with you about HA! My boys still talk about how amazing that lie flat set flight was on HA.. I am a resident of Kauai and travel to the neighbor islands on HA. When traveling to the mainland we usually fly HA red eye to LAX on the A33O and take Delta back. Gotta get those points.

If I was granted three wishes, #1 would be to travel back in time and fly TWA first class from LAX to HNL. 😄 I imagine that would truly be something special! But these days, the best we have is Hawaiian - which isn’t that bad actually (at least compared to the competition).
