I was stood at the Craner Curves. Arrived at 06:30 in the morning. Ooh that was a cold, wet & grey day. At the time it just felt like the LAST place on Earth where we'd witness what we witnessed ❤️️
There’s something so much more nostalgic about amateur videos from people at trackside. I stood at the Craner Curves for the race and, like everyone watched spellbound as Senna came past on lap 2, in front with a huge gap to second place. One of Senna’s most momentous races of his stella career captured beautifully here with the full tinge of nostalgia right down to the cold mud. Watching this makes me feel it was only last week. Great work 👍🏻
But Senna was one of a few that had traction control that day. Williams also had it, but that car was a boat with it aquaplaning on the floor as they had set the car too low. This is one of the most overhyped races and performances in F1 history to try and elevate Senna to some sort of driving god who was above all else. 😆
Thank you so much for sharing this video. My dream was to see a Senna's race in the track...when i had financial conditions to do it he died...this was the closest i will ever get to that feeling. And this race was special.
I well remember that day and feel it was only months ago. Anyone who saw the rain sunday morning and knew Senna driving style expected him to do somethig special. But I couldn't expected that in a next year Senna would no longer be with us... Amazing footage, very emotional for me.
Wow, I went on Saturday for the qualifying. Overriding memories are of Alesi in the Ferrari driving the wheels off it but not improving his time, Senna looking very smooth and deceptively fast and the Williams looking visibly faster than all of them.
Ver esos Williams detrás de Senna jajaaj por favor Senna en la lluvia era imbatible , para que el mundo vea quien es el mejor , no hay más que decir ni hablar Senna el mejor
Thank you for sharing your video . A real piece of formula one history 30 years ago tomorrow. I was at donnington yesterday Martin brundle was there talking about this race you were at!!! Thank you again
I was working there that weekend, I was Jan Magnussen's mechanic when he drove in the Vauxhall (Opel) Lotus support series. An amazing weekend that I'll never forget 😊
It’s remarkable how much time he opened up over Prost that second lap AFTER moving up all those places on the first. The extra speed at which he took that right hander at the bottom of the Craner curves is noticeable against Prost as well. Senna is twitchy under braking and on exiting, Prost more cautious but obviously slower. Senna really was a phenomenon in the wet. Incredible driver, the best!
Wow amazing i was at this race standing at Red gate corner wow thanks for this video its great to remind myself of the race from a fan point of view. 😊😊😊
In the 80’s we used to have a Football World Cup of stars that had retired, Pelé, Maradona, Beckenbauer and so many other giants of the sport, well we could have a parallel F1 Championship of drivers who have retired, Senna sadly wouldn’t be there, but some, or many would love to participate in their old cars… I for one would love to see it…
A shame that Donnington only ever hosted a single F1 race (owing to finances); the track's layout, undulation, and spectator viewing were very good to excellent, imho... And yh, I was there, too, that day, as a 12-year-old with my dad... I wished I had more memories of it, though - we were sat on the short straight just after the Kramer Curves you see here - I remember seeing Andretti's crash unfold, and Johnny Herbert spinning his Lotus a few times in front of us (every other lap it felt)... But even though I remember very little action besides the very typically British weather that day, its still a personal honour to say i was there, and witnessed (unknowingly at the time) what would go down as being an iconic and classic race, and one of the legendary Ayrton Senna's best ever dominant drives (alongside Monaco 84 and Portugal 85, also in heavy wet weather, not forgetting Brazil 91 also). Little did we know either that he would only have thirteen more months of life ahead before the travesty of his tragic fatality at the well-documented San Marino 94 GP... Ps, fast forward fifteen years, I oh so badly wanted Massa to lift the 08 title - for Ayrton - and on home soil no less, making him the only driver in the history of the sport to have done so... Unquestionably the best F1 driver in living memory imho - you can keep your Schumachers and Hamiltons cause Senna would have won more titles for sure - rest eternally in heavenly peace, Ayrton, Deus.
Seeing this from a spectator perspective is just surreal and really emphasises just how superior Senna was that day. The way he simply pulled away is awesome despite the fact that the Williams cars were far superior. Those spectators could never have anticipated on their way to this race, just what they were about to see! Sad thing is that we will never see the likes of this again. Yes, Schumacher, Hamilton, Vettel, Prost and now Verstappen will go down with greater statistics, but they will still never have the impact and resonnance that Senna had………got to be the the greatest ever!
8:48 - Look how far ahead Senna is! He passes directly in front of the person recording the video at 8:54, and Prost and Hill don't get there for another seven seconds, finally arriving at 9:01!😳😎 11:24 - Senna follows moments later. 12:04 - Senna passing another backmarker.
Is that James Hunt commentating over the loudspeaker? It took me until around 1:40 to finally realize that. He was sadly gone only two months later. I love his voice and miss his commentary.

Not really. In 93 it was actual traction control on Sennas car (and other cars).
That noise is the traction control working
Senna in the wet track and the fans sitting in the mud. Two hardcore classics of the 90s never to be recreated.
I love it when by the second lap the astonished guy asks 7:36 "It's a McLaren?" to which his equally astonished pal answers "Yeaaah..?" Priceless!

My friend, you "witnessed" the best lap in F1 history.
Correct!
This is not a perfect senna´s lap. This is a sobrenatural lap!
