This was the first first fps game I ever played, even before I played Doom! I didn't know I had this game until several weeks or months after I bought my Mac (it was a Mac that had been a demo computer in the store). It was hidden away deep in the folder structure so I was quite surprised when I found a full game in such a weird place! I found it late one night so I sat in the dark in my teen boy room and started playing. It was a bit spooky... :)
I wonder if it was the demo machine I first had a quick go of Marathon on!? I had already played Doom, but saw this in 1995 when I was a teenager and thought it looked great, but couldn't figure out why I couldn't find it on PC! 😄
Scuba Steve amazing game spent hours on it most underrated fps of all time not to mention macs were the best for being able to edit game best map editors ever i remember warcraft 2 sound editor hahahaha holy shit i never laughed so damn hard
it seems dated now but it was cutting edge at the time. Great atmosphere and it wasnt just about shooting things. Puzzles and stories were integrated too which was rare in an FPS.
Played on MacOS as a kid in the early 90s. Revisiting the old games I can remember, I can definitely see how my passion for ambient and electronic music was formed.
@@aaadj2744 uh good job on the research. SS came out 23rd september 1994, with Marathon in december that year and System Shock still was alot more advanced.
You should try the Aleph One source port of the Marathon series. It comes with a lot more options that might resolve your gripes with the game (there's options to change the interface into something a little more modern).
I'm prepairing a script in spanish reviewing and telling the story of the Marathon trilogy. In our region is not known, other than it's spiritual successor, Halo.
Marathon was one of my favorit games, till now. The applications was also well like Courier 11, Evil, and the best of them Tempus Irae. The last one got the best textures and environment, better than the originals!
Was trying to figure out why someone was so hyped for the remake of this game I still don't really get it but I guess people have a bit of nostalgia for this game
who's here to study for the remake?
Remake is a pvp extraction shooter.
@@DissipatedTire yet knowing Bungie and how their games work, a LOT of lore behind the scenes. Gonna be fun to poke around that.

sounds spooky indeed. There's nothing quite like the atmosphere of the very first level.
I loved this game when I was a kid
GOOD

hello to everyone here for the Marathon hype!
This music evokes such feelings. This was it man!

i played this game when i was 5 yrs old man thank you for sharing
This game stuck out to me as a kid by being pretty much the only non-kiddy one I had. Way more atmospheric and creepy/violent.

Dude, this game, compared to Doom, is terrifying.
Eerie music make this game has creepy feel
Doom is a macho fantasy. Marathon is more like a survival game.
A System Shock before System Shock
@@aaadj2744 Not quite, it's not that deep.

In this game, there are heard/unseen Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies/Hanna-Barbera sound effects.
Looks like it's coming back, ya'll! :)
If the game screen is too small & the maps are to narrow try marathon 2 & marathon infinity, they have full screen and much more open maps
The atmosphere in this game is so special

That source port is how I discovered this gem of a game, always been a fan of Halo but wondered what Bungie did before
This, doom, duke nukem, dark forces 2, and then eventually quake. Best times
Man this game was scary
This game used to scare me with the music in entire game.....

Dónde puedo verlo?
Best childhood game ever :)
I remember playing this at school on the old Macintosh Performa 575.
One of the best game ever. The music sounds atmospheric !!

it's now re-released but on the aleph one engine!
Guess what it’s back it’s coming to PS5 and PC
Awesome
And xbox
have you tried it with Aleph One?
Definitely gotta play it on aleph one. Now i see why it has such a stretched quality but it looks good
It was made by the same company who made Halo
Why did you waste ammunition firing into thin air?
man.. this game and the 2nd scared me when i was little lol weve come a long ways since installing games with 4 floppies lmao
Can you revisit previous levels or take alternate paths in this one or is it a fully linear, level-based game?
You can in marathon infinity, the 3rd in the series
Was trying to figure out why someone was so hyped for the remake of this game I still don't really get it but I guess people have a bit of nostalgia for this game
are you emulating that mac os ? if yes how
Who’s here from 2023?
apple mascot
Apples answer to doom. Fail.
game was so shit. but it was Mac's only game lol
