I remember reading at the time that Marathon on a capable Mac could run at 640*480 resolution. In 1994 this was an unthinkable resolution for a FPS, Doom was initially 320*200 only.
Marathon, Marathon 2: Durandal and Marathon Infinity were all remastered and released for free by Bungie for Linux, PC, and Mac. alephone.lhowon.org/ Great video. As someone who was a Mac only gamer at that time, and suffering from the long standing failures of gaming for the Mac, the Pippen certainly was an exciting idea at that time. Far too expensive, but still exciting. Poor Gil Amelio. Once he was out and Jobs was in, all the Mac clone efforts were shut down.
Yeah Apple tried back then. They didn’t succeed but at least they attempted it. I mean I’m typing this on an iPhone but I wish Apple got a little more creative with their hardware and projects lately. Would be fun to see them release a proper “console” to compete today. A series SoC in a nice looking box with a legit controller. Let legit devs supply real “non mobile” games and Apple can bring the OS and media streaming section
I really like the calm tone these videos have, also, Marathon is massively underrated. btw, does super marathon include 1 and 2? i though it had 2 and infinity.
@@VideoGameEsoterica You ever play a flat shaded 3d Boogie/Body Boarding game on your old mac? Been trying to find this game for years, I must have found some shareware back in the day and noone preserved it. mike Stewart's supposedly the first body surfing game but years later
Bro.. 🤦♂️You had so many titles you could have gone with instead of "Pippen Playlist Series." It could have been called, "Pippen Ain't Easy." "Big Pippen." Bro.. it's not too late!!!

Yeah you can run it in VGA on the Pippin which is pretty impressive for the time
I wish i had one, to call it "Scottie".
Lol I’ve made that joke on a few posts and forums now too. It’s just too good!
Thanks for giving us an idea on how the actual gaming experience is on the Pippen. The Pippen is an interesting footnote in gaming history.
Glad you enjoyed it!

There is also a homebrew port for the dreamcast btw
Yeah I’ve heard of it. Still need to check it out
there used to be a PSP port that was half finished, too bad nobody made a proper portable port.
Would have been fun had it been finished
@@VideoGameEsoterica Still could be Bunch of us are still doing dreamcast dev homebrew including me i have the source code to the port

It was almost “Scotty Pippin” but I thought that would confuse people 😂
