I remember the real Henry Hill used to call and go in to the Howard Stern show a lot and whenever he did some other mob guy that knew him from the old days would call the show and threaten him. And this was years after all that business happened 😆

    • @lucydog3376
      @lucydog3376 2 года назад

They were pretty empty threats. I think the guy just wanted to hurl abuse at him but if they really wanted to kill him they had every opportunity to do it, he was a pretty easy guy to find. They were pretty serious about killing him for a few years after he ratted but after a while they just gave up, everyone he got in trouble were dead or back out or never getting out and nobody left really cared enough to bother to hit him. Mikey Franzese was even in prison with Henry and their was an active contract on him for any mob member to kill him on sight but Mikey didn't care enough to do it, he actually made friend with Henry instead.

    • @Abcdefg-tf7cu

Prison for a mobster was like an involuntary vacation. Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia was described as one of the most hellish prisons in the U.S. (and inspired the horror game The Suffering). When Al Capone was convicted of tax evasion he was sentenced there, but his room was dolled up to the nines. It had furniture, rugs, and a fancy radio. Regular cells had nothing but a bed, four concrete walls and a little hole in the ceiling for light.
Edit: I'd recommend the film Find Me Guilty, with Vin Diesel

Another great crime drama film to check out that features both Ray liotta & Robert DeNiro, along with Sylvester Stallone, Kathy Moriarty, Robert Patrick, Annabella Sciorra, Michael Rapaport, Janeane Garofalo, Noah Emmerich and Harvey Keitel is the 1997 film called COP LAND...(directed by James Mangold - the director of Logan, The Wolverine, Walk The Line, Girl Interrupted, Ford v Ferrari and the upcoming Indiana Jones 5 movie)....I recommend watching the director's cut instead of the theatrical version of COP LAND, it is slightly longer and has several extra character moments which were cut out of the theatrical version due to making the film run a little shorter. The director's cut is a much better improvement over the great theatrical version. The director's cut takes a great film and makes it even greater.
Y'all would be pleasantly surprised by that film. It is very underrated (and it is also one of my most personal faves)....

First time I saw it I also came away kind of in shock. I didn't know if I liked it or not. But every time I rewatch it I keep liking it more. Its rewatch value is 100%.
My favorite scene is the Copacabana scene, walking in the back, through the kitchen, into the main floor all in one take. Beautiful scene!
Also love the introduction of all the guys with their nicknames scene and the "am I a clown to amuse you?" scene that followed.
    Also the prison dinner scene.

Is he alive? Geez, you don't watch until the end? They tell you what happened to each of them (to the time the film was made). The reason this is a classic is BECAUSE it was real. It shows how seducing the whole idea of being in a gangster "family" to a kid in an unhappy home. Then it shows how gradually over the years he begins to see just how warped that seductive life is.

In real life, the Tommy character (who was actually quite tall in reality) allegedly tried to rape Karen, and Karen was having an affair with Paulie and told him, and Paulie sold Tommy out to the other mobsters (Batts belonged to a different mob family than Paulie).
The Lufthansa heist was in the news a few years ago as it was alleged that a mob boss was involved and that was part of the reason the money wasn't fairly split, but there wasn't enough evidence.
Jimmy was even more of an asshole in real life- the stories of him include chopping up his wife's annoying ex with an axe, and locking children in refrigerators when shaking down their parents.
Despite this omissions, Henry Hill said that the movie was "90-95% accurate" and true to what happened- although, he isn't the most reliable narrator (eg. he implies he never personally killed anyone in the movie, but he is actually suspected of killing two or three people in real life).
Sociopaths and psychopaths are different. Sociopaths are usually the product of a bad upbringing (Socio-) and are more emotional and volatile; psychopaths are usually born (Psycho-) and are more cold and calculating. Tommy and Jimmy actually represent a good example of the typical differences (there are other definitions of both terms, but those are the original).
Pesci won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for this movie- he also gave one of the shortest acceptance speeches in Academy history ("This is a great privilege; thank you") because he honestly didn't believe he was going to win and hadn't prepared anything.

I think the structure of the movie is interesting. As a kid he 'always wanted to be a gangster'. The next part of the movie shows us why, he's living an exciting and lucrative life. The foundation of it all, the desire for money and power, corrupts things. We see this in the last part of the movie as he ignores Paulie's instructions and gets deep into drug dealing. That triggers his downfall. And the icing on the cake is he rats out his supposed 'friends'. These same friends would have killed him without a second thought if they could have, and he rats them out just as easily. His kid's eye perspective on what it meant to be gangster was just as clueless as you'd expect a kid's understanding of it to be. In the end he winds up a 'schnook' basically meaning he realizes somehow, someway despite all he did to avoid it, he's become his dad.

@@jjkcharlie I didn't like it and I love almost all of Deniro's movies. I just thought he overacted the part. Mitchum I think did a much better job, hell I thought Deniro's character should have been in a padded cell. Mitchum's character was just pure evil. I guess if something seems real to me it has more authenticity.

Great movie...gotta watch a movie that’s as good as his one. Donnie Brasco is a lesser watched mob movie but just as good. This his movie is very stylized where as Brasco shows more of the life of a regular mob guy. Gotta watch it

One fact I didn't see anyone mention, Tommy's mother is played by Martin Scorcese's mother.

This film about gangsters and shylocks
Begins with a trunk where a guy knocks.
    He's stabbed and then shot
    Then gets buried to rot
Just for saying, "Now go get your shinebox!"

Love that you got to watch this Em and get both your’s and Matt’s thoughts. This is the top of a top 3 now top 4 coz of The Irishman, 2nd and 3rd being Casino and Donnie Brasco for their true to life depiction of events.
Fun facts about this, the clown scene was improv from Pesci which Scorsese loved and kept in.
Both Pauli and Jimmy were even more psychotic in real life according to hill and the film somewhat softened them up. Tommy especially who at one point in real life shot a civilian in the street just to test out a new gun. And IRL was tall almost 7feet not short like Pesci.
And Paulie was a psycho too and not just as portrayed as a fatherly figure. Henry Hill distinctly recalled one time where as a kid he was waiting in a car for him and Paulie walked into a bar and severely beat a bar maid with a bat for ratting on him to his wife about Paulie cheating with her.
Also my favourite character was Jimmy 2times, 2times ;)

This movie ends with entering the witness protection program. I suggest a light-hearted comedy about criminal activity that STARTS with entering the witness protection program. Steve Martin and Rick Moranis in My Blue Heaven.
