When I lived in LA I probably went to see Scott & band (several versions) play at La Ve Lee in Studio City at least 40+ times 2002-2005 and there were often 10-20-30 people there. I felt bad for how little $$ he probably walked out with many nights but I felt great for me; never got tired of seeing him play and honestly, he never in all that time had a bad night. Maybe 2-3 bad tunes. One the absolute best players out there, and very friendly as a person. Total monster of a player.
He doesn't like videos for sure but he should be proud. ferocius, brutal, sensitive, complex, bigest tone on earth along mike landau. Scott is just a player like no other. a life changer in terms of music approach
Okay, so there's also this other version of Scott's "Devil Boy" on RUclips. It was part of some German TV broadcast (maybe a Rockpalast episode?), probably earlier than this. It was pretty high in terms of production value. Great sound. Anyway, you can look it up. The person who posted it somehow felt compelled to throw in a comparison to SRV and Beck in the title of the posting. Whatever. In any case, it is a fantastic video, with the amazing "Captain" Kirk Covington on drums AND vocals (former Tribal Tech alum) and John Humphrey playing bass. (That looks like John in this video, but I can't tell because of the lighting.) Anyhoo, if someone put a gun to my head, I'd say I "prefer" that version. But Scott is such a transcendent player, and such a pro. Both performances are so superb in their own way that at some point you're really just splitting hairs. I really consider Henderson the best guitarist on earth, when you put his whole career in perspective and consider all of his talents. He (along with Gary Willis) is one of the best jazz fusion composers since Zawinul, in my humble opinion. And NO ONE (not SRV, not Beck) has been able to fuse those two styles of playing (blistering jazz fusion/jazz and blues) as effectively.
It is a bit heartbreaking to see Mr Henderson playing to 10 people in some dive. He is a genuine legend, and deserves to play to 10,000. I am just starting my journey as a blues guitarist into fusion, and Scott with 1 or 2 others are my sources of inspiration and instruction.
One question still bothers me: why it is so difficult to be a true artist, why it is so difficult to understand ART?? Why a player like Scott, who plays stratospheric phrases like we hear on this video, must be on the very far side of music industry???

Genius of the blues.
Scott is a Legend.
Amazing improv from a great player.
John, man, I keep coming back to this video over and over.
Nobody has ever played the blues like this:
Genius of harmony.
Genius.
Totally brilliant and electrifying.
scott and frank gambale are two of the best guitarist alive
This shit is totally insane. I don't think anyone else has taken the electric guitar to this level of musicality. Utterly astounding.

He goes way out there, then plays the greatest blues sounds you ever heard-huge sound.
