A Full Day on the Line - Part 2 - Yorkshire Dales Model Railway

- It’s been a BIG week for the layout.
I’ve had Richard from New Junction over filming and a video for his channel, as well as a visit from Hornby Magazine. The layout will be featuring in the February issue, available in early January.
A Full Day on the Line - Part 2
LNER B1 61032 heads north with a four coach local stopping train. 9F 92211 hauls a heavy mixed freight south. A sign of things to come, Class 27 D5403 heads a local fitted freight in the opposite direction, depositing a box van at Ponden Station and passing Buckdale without needing to stop.
Midland 4F 44044 reverses into Buckdale’s second platform to allow K1 62064 to pass with a much faster non stop service, before continuing on to Pondon. As evening draws in Q6 63443 passes with a coal train whilst 4F 44044 prepares to head off.
I was going to have a crack at some night time shots, but I think this needs a little more thought!
As always, thanks for watching.
I feel like I have just spent the day at a heritage railway sitting in the sun watching the trains go by
That’s the life Alan! 😀
Best sound I have ever heard from model railroad. Congrats!!!
Thanks Doug!
Once again thumbs up! 17 minutes gone in no time, very pleasant well filmed journey through excellent scenery, can't wait for more 😎
Thanks Chris, glad you liked it 😀
Dziękuję za wspaniałą podróż po przepięknej krainie. Wszystko jest nie tylko piękne, ale żywe i prawdziwe. Wielkie Dzięki ! 🚂👍🚂 (h).
Dziękuję bardzo, to bardzo miłe z twojej strony!
I remember as a child camping in the Yorkshire dales in the 1960s & 70s. Your scenery makes me feel I'm right there in one of your fields watching the trains go by. What an excellent layout!
Thanks very much Alan!
Excellent show gentleman. You have a good scenery, great actors, a nice and simple scenario and, most of it, you are a good director. I mean it.
My favorite is the local stop train, with the 0-6-0 that makes all her stunts by herself. Nice suspense when she backed up with her three coaches into a dead-end track to let an express overtake her, and good to see here later waiting to be overtaken by an express freight.
I have also loved the 2-10-0 with the “yes I'm hauling a dozen of freight cars” part. Good idea also with the diesel, it gives a little “sci-fi” twist in your show.
So, I'm really in ! Thanks for the good work !
Well thank you very much Olivier, appreciate it! Two of my favourites as well, I really like the crimson coaches with the black engine. The 2-10-0 doesn’t look right hailing any less than that now!! Thanks again 👍🏻
It's a fabulous layout and your videos do it proud.
Thanks Frank 👍🏻
Just brilliant another great day in the Dale’s 😀👍
Thanks Michael 👍🏻
Old steam trains and lovely scenery. The good old days.
Thanks Jerry!
Great news..you are getting the recognition you deserve Mr Raspberry!!!
Surely you must now consider putting your quite remarkable talents into an exhibition layout. I don't buy magazines as a rule but I have just reserved a copy of the February Hornby Magazine. Cheers, Bob
Thank very much Bob, appreciate it. I’m sure I’ll get round to one at some point. It would be nice to try something a bit smaller but go all out on the details. Cheers, Lewis.
Well done video once again very good indeed, Its just a smashing smashing layout and just as wonderful to watch thank you Lewis.
Thanks Tony!
I never get tired of watching your videos of this layout, looks like the real thing.Cheers
Thanks very much David 👍🏻
Thanks for posting this is the model railway I always wanted to build but never completed it due to circumstances changing. Superb miniature construction and running with exceptional detail.
Thanks Paul!
Wonderful video. Visuals and sounds are the best. Thanks for sharing. Dave
Thanks very much Dave!
Beautiful scenery. Handsome Train. Thumbs up vido . Thanks,
Thanks Austin 👍🏻
Wonderful & outstanding video. Perfect sound synchronization and focusing. Enjoyed this very much again. Thanks !! And bravo that your 'Yorkshire Dales RW' makes it to the readers of Hornby Mag. Hope they render it in its full splendor. Success & greetings, Filip
Thanks very much Filip, always appreciate it. I’m really looking forward to seeing how the photos come out as well. Have a great weekend 👍🏻
The first thing to say, Lewis is congratulations. You deserve to be featured in a magazine; along with Peter, you both have the most evocative, and aesthetically pleasing layouts on RUclips, and you both, deserve to be shared with a wider audience. As to the video, you have surpassed yourself. It pains me to say this, but even the dreaded diesel looked the part!! As always, Henry.
Thank you Henry. That’s high praise indeed. I’m looking forward to seeing how the photos come out!
Thoroughly enjoy watching these videos - they are up there with the very best that RUclips has to offer. Well deserving of the feature in Hornby Magazine so will be keeping a look out for that. A real sense of being around the Yorkshire Dales so keep up the excellent work.
Thanks very much, that’s high praise - appreciate it 😀
One word..stunning. Great work mate
Thanks matey 👍🏻
Fabulous . All i was missing was some sandwiches and a bottle of pop! A Summer Saturday would be fun to watch if you ever get the urge.
Thank you. That’s the life Garry!
Really enjoyed those two sessions. Fantastic news on the Hornby magazine spread, thoroughly deserved and can’t wait to see it in print. Paul
Thanks Paul. Me too, I can’t wait to see how the photos turn out!
Hi Lewis,
Still can't get enough of your fantastic video's.
The sound that you put your videos really makes it more realistic, your layout is absolutely Brilliant, it's always a joy to watch.
Lewis there's one we thing, well I think it could add a we bit more realism, is add people passengers to your coaches. I just find that's what we all do when it comes to model railway, even myself miss this part out.
But now I have mentioned it I'll be adding passengers to my coaches.
It's one part we all leave bare.
I hope this might help in away.
Lewis I wish you and your family A Merry Christmas, hope Santa will be good to you.
Many thanks your good friend Brian 👍
Hi Brian. Thank you, always appreciate your comments 😀. You know what, that’s a great suggestion. I’ve got some super cheap figures off amazon coming tomorrow! I think they will all be pretty brightly coloured and not great quality but after a repaint (or maybe just a black wash) they’ll be fine inside the carriages. It’s definitely something that is overlooked.
Have a great Christmas yourself, all the best mate.
Again, an outstanding sequence! Felt like I was there.
Thank you 👍🏻
Absolutely wonderful video again and terrific modeling great running session surprised to see a diesel but great too When I was at the Nec quite a lot of modellers I talked too were very impressed as well were talking about your wonderful layout please keep the Keep them coming Kind regards Martin
Thanks very much Martin. The Class 27 doesn’t get the spotlight too often but it’s really great. That’s nice to know, I was hoping to make it myself - hopefully next year.
Hi that's ok keep in touch especially about Worley would be great to meet you and shake your hand kind regards Martin look out for my next video it will be a cam truck one also the lack of scenics due to still addressing Coalbridge junction station etc
Oh my, what a wonderful sequence of shots. Particularly loved the slow start at 4:16! Can't believe how eighteen minutes passed so quickly, it was that enjoyable. Thank you very much for posting, Ian
Thank you Ian, glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
You have become quite an expert on the sounds for your trains ❤
Thank you 😀
A very entertaining video. Superb attention to detail
Thanks matey, have a great Christmas!
What a scenic place to spend a day out
Thanks Peter. Have a great Christmas and New Year.
Hello again Lewis. I've been looking forward to seeing this video. It is to your usual high standard of everything to like and nothing to dislike. I love all of your locomotives and rolling stock and in particular the lovely weathered 9f with its goods train. All in all a fantastic representation of the real thing that looks so real and believable and a real joy to watch. Chris.
Thanks very much Chris, appreciate it. I love 9F as well, it just looks great with everything!
Spot on Mr Mouldy. Great video and sounds.
Thanks very much John!
Good evening mouldy, thanks a lot for sharing part 2 now. Let`s say: " Great, nearly 18 minutes pleasure"!
Thanks! This has got to be the longest one I’ve posted, usually I try and keep it under 10 minutes! Have a great weekend.
@@MouldyRaspberry Thanks, same for you mouldy!
Very impressive and enjoyable
Thank you 😀
This by far the best video clip to date, your skills on the sound track and camera angles have really made this clip stick out.I liked the inclusion of the diesel fright train and also the shot of the steam engine in the sheds.the mixture of events really does do you justice and congratulation on making the Hornby magazine edition for 2020 .......YOU REALLY DO DESERVE IT...keep the dales events coming....TOP MARKS ALL ROUND .....
Thanks Paul, always appreciate it mate. Glad you enjoyed the video 😀
Another fantastic video the 9f running through the country reminded me of seeing them on the s&she in the 1960 thank you pete
Thanks very much Pete. I thought of that as well!
Hi Lewis, well you have done it again. Great video, great photography, some great new camera angles. Brilliant., and a Merry Christmas to you. Will look forward to more great videos in 2020 Cheers Greg
Thank Greg. Merry Christmas to you as well, have a great one!
Great video my friend awesome layout
Thanks William 👍🏻
Wonderful , congratulations on Hornby magazine inclusion , well deserved .
Thanks very much Philip 👍🏻
Everything about this is phenomenal and beautiful. Gorgeous scenery, and incredible work on the audio and cinematography as well!
Thanks very much 😀
Love it. Some great shots.
Great way to start my day.
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers Eric, appreciate it mate.
Excellent as always thank you Lewis. I can't wait to see it on Richard's channel too. Lovely camera shots of a fantastic layout... I hope you have a licence for those drone shots! ;@)
Thanks Andrew 😀 so am I! We had a lego Millennium Falcon flying over the layout at one point, so wonder if that will make the cut...
Sorry Im late to the party
Really enjoyed this video as usual.
Cheers Paul
Thanks very much Paul 👍🏻
You back again in the morning.
🌄🚂
Haha probably!
Thay funny
Thank God it's Friday! Been looking forward to this all week! Love the close ups and new angles, especially the shot through the trees at 10.40 (birds eye view). Sounds magnificent as always and I love the Class 27. I'm warming to diesels. Many thanks Lewis - Teresa @ Findhorn Light (who really must get on with her RUclips presentation - not been so well this year).
Thanks Teresa. I like that views as well, just hard to keep the camera from shaking! Me too - the new Accurascale class 37 is temping me a little bit! Well, I hope you’re feeling better now.
Those kadee couplings make the spacing between the goods wagons look great (and believable!).. very therapeutic viewing as always. Wasn’t aware of your Hornby magazine inclusion, will now have to arrange a copy to be sent out to France 😁👍 have a great weekend
Thanks Andy! Yes I had some huge gaps before, especially between the engines and coaching stock. And of course the wagons as you say! It’s the February edition, available in early Jan. Have a great weekend yourself 😀
Lovely feature Lewis,
My particular favourite was the 9F a splendid sight! The B1 also looked very nice now it’s weathered. Again it’s the same old repetition from me.
Fantastic layout with great attention to detail, a great atmosphere within the video and all you needed was steam and it could’ve been real.
Keep up the great work. Hope you’re well and happy modelling.
Regards, Ross.
Thanks very much Ross. I think the guys at Hornby Mag are adding some steam effects to the photos, so it will be cool to see how they turn out. Thanks again matey, have a great weekend.
Wow, that was an old-timer about 3 minutes in. Broken record time- another great view of one of the nicest layouts out there. Absolutely brilliant.
Thanks very much Anthony, always appreciate it.
This is what the hobby is all about! Top quality scenery, top quality rolling stock, top quality video, top quality video editing and scene structure, top quality sound bites blended in perfectly but........... no passengers in the carriages and some locos are driverless? Closeups are great on quality scenes but they show everything. Please populate or the line will perish with no paying customers. Looking forward to more entertaining videos - Clyde - MagnorailOz (now subscribed)
Thanks very much Clyde, appreciate it! The layouts still a work in progress so not everything is finished and detailed just yet 👍🏻 funnily enough all my coaches were populated the day before yesterday! Hopefully if Santa thinks I’ve been good this year I’ll get some much needed loco crew in my stocking
Another awesome video. Some great running shots as always. Such great atmosphere and the sounds just enhance it. I can get used to a weekly video from you, Clint
Thanks very much Clint👍🏻
Once again you hit the mark, I loved the long freight (as I think it is more interesting than coaches) and the sounds were spot on with the locos. However I would like to see more small tank engines.
Thank you! As far as small tank engines go I’ve I’ve only got the radial and the pannier. Bachmann have a new midland 1P coming out that looks very nice though. I’d certainly like to get a few more.
Yes I agree, maybe a Hattons 14xx. They’re very detailed for only 74£
I really enjoy the shots that are framed heavier on the scenery, with the train passing in the background
Thank Evan. So do I!
stunning diorama detail 👌 with some truly fantastic runs ❤.. i love your little railways ❤
Thank you Mike. Always appreciate you watching and commenting. Congrats on 200k subs! 😀
@@MouldyRaspberry ❤
great sounds great layout
Thanks John!
Another very enjoyable video Even enjoyed the diesel sequence. I did grow up with them so have a fondness for both. My Feb issue of Hornby magazine is sure going to be a good one. Great to see your layout will soon be in print.
Thank you, so do I. Yes I’m looking forward to seeing how the photos come out!
It's about time your layout was featured in a magazine, will be getting that issue Lewis, great video, love watching them all.
Thanks very much Dave, appreciate it.
Yet another great video.
I’m on holiday in Las Vegas USA. Still watching your videos though. They are much easier on the pocketbook than gambling!!
I love the close up shots in this video, very effective. Keep up the good work and
Cheers from a Canadian on holiday
Bob
Hope you’re having a great time out there Bob, and not loosing too much money! Then again you might return to Canada a very rich man! Thanks very much as always 😀
incredible models might get myself a 4F before Xmas
Thanks. They’re really great and run super smooth I’d definitely recommend one.
Superbbbbbbb
Work.....
Thanks 😀
Is it my imagination or is this getting more realistic every time I see it?
Ha it could be! Thanks very much 👍🏻
@@MouldyRaspberry J B is spot on Lewis, you are certainly taking things to the next level in realism in every way, shape & form. No wonder you have had some special visitors! Again, keep up the fantastic work matey, we all very much appreciate seeing your efforts. Kind regards, Greg
have a good day in work 🌅
Thank you 😀
FANTASTIC. I love the way you managed to get the sound in sync, trying to do that myself and it's more difficult than people could imagine. You have pulled it off brilliantly mate. Well done 🙂
Thanks Iain. Yep you’re right, it can be quite fiddly. After editing however many videos I’ve got much quicker at doing them now. Thanks again mate 😀
@@MouldyRaspberry If only sound decoders were as good!
Great to hear you've had Hornby round! I'll certainly be buying that issue. Nice shots too, I'm looking forward to the night ones. I've still got a little more gardening to do on my miniature railway, but it should feature on my Christmas running video next weekend. I've put the station Christmas lights up too!
Thanks matey 😀 I could do with making a few Christmas trees for mine actually, that’s a cool idea. I’ll be looking forward to your video then!
@@MouldyRaspberry do you have a link to the hornby review ?
The magazine goes on sale in early January 😀
@@MouldyRaspberry thank you
Superb!
Thanks Jeff!
That was wonderful, fantastic layout and you edited in those sounds perfectly!
Thanks 😀
Outstanding superb
Thank you 👍🏻
And yet another stunning video Mr R, but that's what we've all come to expect now from YDMR. Well done on the recognition from Hornby, it's thoroughly deserved. I mentioned on one of your earlier videos that I found your channel when you only had about 50 subscribers so I feel like I've been here from the beginning. On a side note though, I've noticed a flaw on the YDMR, is the correct name PONDON, or PONDEN, the signal box has "DON" but the station name board has "DEN".
Thanks Mike. You’re one of the originals, so thanks for sticking with it! I think you’re only the second person so spot that in two years! At some point I’ll need to make some new signs as when I’ve been spraying the ballast to glue it in place the paper for for a bit wet and faded.
Superb...
Thanks Peter 👍🏻
Ha... you have one of those tractors started by firing a cartridge. I remember those being used in West Wales. Hell of a bang
Well I never knew that! I’ll have to see if I can’t a video on here of one starting.
@@MouldyRaspberry I think they came without starter motors and perhaps not even a battery...
A other great evocative video.
Thanks 😀
love the stinky oily stained diesel :) fitted into the environment perfectly
Thanks matey, glad you liked it 👍🏻
Cracking as always, you must have a few hours in that layout by now 👌
Thanks Ian, I suspect so!
When life returns to whatever it will be I think a charter over the S&C should be named after you "The Mouldy Raspberry" hauled by something in crimson lake livery. Or perhaps York to Scarborough.
Sounds like a reasonable proposition to me! I’d love to be on board!
At 4:16 as 61032 pulls out, well it might be serendipidy, but your sounds syncronised with the motion work, DCC doesnt get close to that, and very nice to hear steam noises whilst the engine is waiting. There are times in your videos when you might think it real. Your use of sound and filming expertees is brilliant. Shame about the diesel though, my love has always been steam, but then I ran a very large power station......so I am biased. By golly I miss the old trains, slam doors, corridors and compartments, halcyon days.....
Thanks very much Steve. I agree, unless you are willing to pay big bucks, it doesn’t come close. I never experienced any of that (other than on preserved lines) but I totally agree - there is something immensely satisfying about those slam doors!
Glad to hear you’ll be on the Hornby magazine. I’m going to start collecting as many steam locomotive sound track CDs etc. as I can. I haven’t found any with a clear clickety clack sound on it yet like in your video. Surely one of them will have that sound. I got an LP recently of Riccarton junction. It’s called “Railway to Riccarton. It has some tracks of trains going through Steele Road Station on the Waverley line which is what my layout is based on.
That’s a good idea, I’m sure some of them will have some sound! Most of my sounds come from people RUclips videos that they let me use, you could always try that. Thanks again mate.
Mouldy Raspberry
Thanks. Was it videos of real trains? I suppose the sound of them could be recorded and the sound track put onto your layout video? I’ll have a look out for some, then ask to use the sound.
If you can get to a preserved line there is a great little recorder made by Taking productions called Micro-Speak. It records in mp3 and you can connect it to your PC with a USB cable.
cedarcam
Thanks, that could be really useful.
Hey there. Fantastic day out spotting there thanks, lol.
Do you love to make us fellow modelers jealous, rubbing all this detail in our faces, haha!
Nice touch adding the dirty diesel to the mix. Do you by any chance have a Class 08 / Class 11 to rumble down the line next time?
It would be very interesting to hear your sounds compared to the one I've ridden in several times now down our line.
Top Job as always, certainly deserves the attention of the likes of Hornby Mag , well done! (◕‿◕)
Thanks very much! That was not my intention I promise! 😀. I did have a very old 08 from when I was a kid but have since traded it in as it didn’t work very well at all. The Class 27 is the only diesel I own! Thanks again mate 👍🏻
Ah....another entertaining day! I loved the rack focus, early on, between the bumpers and the loco, nice! I could be wrong, but was that the first time a diesel was introduced? Oh.... I think it’s time to let some “ passengers “ on those beautiful coaches. Maybe a task for 2020. Not a criticism, just a wish. Okay, great as always. See ya next time.
Thanks Norman. I think it’s featured once or twice, but not very often. I completely agree, they look very empty in those shots across the viaduct. If I can get the roofs off them, I’ll definitely add some. Thanks again 😀
This channel is in my top two . Im in to n scale but trains are trains i follow paul creedy too. Between you and Paul's you's have the best video's i have a dapol class22 weathered and a fowler 060 the only English one's i have i think . I need more but 100 +is a lot but would like more more trains but i don't have a layout yet just a circle but i don't have time . So i keep on buying trains and stuff on ebay . I think I'm a train collector
Thanks very much Paul. I’m the same, I follow lots of O gauge and N gauge, as you say trains are trains and the techniques are very similar. Hopefully you’ll have some time in the future to build a layout, but in the meantime nothing wrong with a bit of collecting!!
Are you planning on adding lights to the trains and scenery? I think that would just perfect this layout. I like the operations style of these. Keep doing what you’re doing!
Thanks Evan. At some point I’d like to get some carriage lights - I’ve seen you can get strips for DC now. They would look I think.
Mouldy Raspberry Coach lighting would look great. Planning on doing the buildings aswell? Sorry, I’m just a sucker for lights and it would make it feel really quaint 😅
Great video showing the operations on the layout. Was that a diesel I saw there??? The details in your layout are amazing. I still cannot believe that it is DC operated. Job well done with that wiring. As always, thanks for sharing. Ken
Thanks Ken. You don’t see them often but one might pop up every now and then. Wiring is definitely not something I know much about so I wanted to keep it as simple as possible!
Darrenbury Central Hi great layout.
Thanks 😀
Night-time shots are dead easy to achieve. All you need to do is turn the loft lights off. Ta-da! It looks like night-time has fallen upon the railway. That's how Sam gets the look of night-time in his own loft. Take a look at his Diesels in the Dark video. With a snap of his fingers, the lights go out and the loft is in semi darkness. In your case, just be careful you don't go falling through the loft entrance hole; make sure the lights below are left on so you can see where your feet are taking you and your camera.
The set really does looks so life-like.
Just curious, is this railway on the mainline or a branch line? If so, where does it so to?
Another question, do any of the stations have towns? If so, what would they be modelled after?
Thanks. It started as a branch line, but since I extended it to a full look to run longer trains it’s more like a secondary route now perhaps connecting two main lines. I always imagine one direction heading off towards Leeds/Bradford etc and the other direction heading up towards Carlisle. No towns, just roads leading to them but I’d probably base them on places like Haworth.
Another perfect day in God's country...
Agreed, thank you 😀
It’s a pity that the manufacturers don’t put people sitting in the coach 😟. Diesel was the enemy of steam!!
You know Nigel I’ve been meaning to add some figures to the coaches. I’m not sure how I go about getting the roofs off some of them though. That would make a big difference to the shots that are showing through the train.
Who let a diesel into the Yorkshire Dales!?
Some fruitcake!
That looks so good. I also did small n scale layout on my channel.hope u like. Its my first layout
Thanks, I’ll check it out 👍🏻
What scale are you xx
OO gauge, so 4mm scale 👍🏻
Mouldy Raspberry thank u
