  • Great Western Gala - Yorkshire Dales Model Railway
    More intruders in the Dales this week, as four Great Western Railway locomotives venture north - making for quite a long video!
    This week I’ve been weathering my Hornby Grange, which I’ll include in a future layout update, whilst making some more trees - a never ending task! I’ve also laid some extra track in the storage yard.
    Locomotives featured include:
    Hornby 6029 King Class ‘King Edward VIII’ 4-6-0
    Hornby 6825 Grange Class ‘Llanvair Grange’ 4-6-0
    Bachmann 6639 56xx Class 0-6-2T
    Bachmann 3711 57xx Class Pannier Tank 0-6-0T
    As always, thanks very much for watching.

    There is something about a curved station that I really like because it’s different and not seen a lot. Ponden looks super in them camera shots. The pannier at 2:40 would have to be my favourite view passing that signal box. Lovely video to watch. Clint

    • @MouldyRaspberry
      @MouldyRaspberry  4 года назад

      Thanks Clint. Agreed, it provides some great shots of the trains slowing round the curve. I found the idea constructing one really daunting, but after figuring out the trusty foamboard and plaster technique they’re arguably easy than the straight platforms! Have a good weekend mate.

    • @Bearpit222
      @Bearpit222 4 года назад +1

      This layout is really a movie stage .... made for filming train videos. I agree the curved platform is so much in place and different in an eye pleasing way .... it blends with the extensive scenery. I have never seen a layout with so much uncluttered rural space ...... it has a harmonious balance and ratio to see so much countryside in videos which is why it's a rare build .... restraining the urge to cram more in pays off.

    Once again a stunning video. I really love the way you integrate real sounds in it, and also how the different "cuts" are joint flawlessly together into a whole. It reminds me of many documentary videos I have seen about the BR in Wales and Cornwall. Also, the fact I'm a huge GWR fan makes it even more interresting to me... By the way, the kits (platform, cable rolls & advertising billboards) should leave early next week (I was unable to do it earlier as my back has caused me problems and I was unable to go to the DPD centre to deliver the package). It should take about two to five days to arrive then, and trackig info will be available (I'll send it by mail). Again congrats on the wonderfull layout and thanks for the inspiration it gives me to build my own 1940's GWR one once I have my new workshop & layout room built this spring in my garden (with a layout room about 5.50 m by 3.50 m where I plan to build a layout in U shape with lower level staging and upper level visible section with two stations and connecting helixes (all in single track line of course), loosely based on the GWR in Devon (between Exeter and Plymouth).

    They'd look more at home if they weren't so grimy. But what's not to love about God's Wonderful Railway? Resolven Grange, new in my collection, is weathered yet she's nowhere near as grimy as Llanvair Grange. Lightly weathered engines are more welcome on the Cat Valley Steam Railway. Anything grimier than that for me is a no-go.

    Is the King even on the rails, or was that some DCC black magic?
    Also how do your engines take that left curving point so effortlessly? Mine won't even take a Y crossing without acting up.

      It’s off the rails - Analogue black magic baby! I relaid that section when I rebuilt the station, so I tested it and tested it and adjusted it until I was SURE they’d run fine. They can be a nightmare can’t they!

    top marks for annoying the purists. with gwr engines in the dales and a grange heading an express with the wrong head code ( brilliant double header ). however as great western engines were often revolutionary in design and produced to a high standard I think their quite at home on this layout.

    • @MouldyRaspberry
      @MouldyRaspberry  4 года назад +1

      I don’t even have a good excuse for not having correct head codes anymore, I’ve got the headlamps I just forget to change them when filming! Glad you liked it, I think they look at home as well.

    Cracking low level shots Lewis - best way to view a model. And yes - I too was wondering 'has he gone DCC?' Nope, analogue magic- nice one! Oh, has the farmer got a military Land Rover or are the army on 'manurevers'? As ever, thanks for sharing. Teresa Findhorn Light

    Subject for a new video ..... the making of Brexit Halt. Have you considered street signs .... there aren't many streets in the layout but it could be an opportunity for humor. Leading away from Brexit Halt could be Farage Lane.

    • @MouldyRaspberry
      @MouldyRaspberry  4 года назад

      Ha! Some street signs are a great idea, you could have some great names. You’re right though other than a few lanes there aren’t too many streets.

    Very pleasant watch Lewis.
    The 56xx on the coal train was very reminiscent of the welsh coal traffic they were used on along side the 42/72xx 2-8-0/2-8-2 tanks
    The grange and king double header was also nice to see. All you were missing was a castle and a manor or hall. Any plans on getting these classes or not really?
    As always lovely layout mate.
    Ross

    • @MouldyRaspberry
      @MouldyRaspberry  4 года назад +1

      Thanks Ross. I like the 42xx/72xx, certainly tempted to get one at some point, although I know the early releases has a few quality issues. I was torn between the grange and a manor/hall, but the grange seems to be a bit more high spec than the Bachmann Hall though, with the tender pick ups etc. I’m sure I will do at some point, you can’t beat a Castle! Would you recommend?
      Thanks again 😀

      Mouldy Raspberry
      Depending on the tooling I would recommend the castle I have the Barry J freeman pack ‘A date with the dutchy’ and that sped of castle is brilliant. So I would say it’s worth spending the extra money on a newer castle as it’s a better tooling.
      I also have the older tooling one and it’s not a very smooth runner but I could be possibly down to requiring a service.
      Hope this helps,
      Ross

      Thanks Daniel, appreciate it. I’d say, make sure you do your research, take your time with the baseboards to make sure they don’t warp and hold up well, avoid sharp track curves (go for the widest you can get away with), and just have fun with it! Best of luck 😀

    For the sake of videos you could add temporary scenes such as a ball on the track and a group of distressed looking children standing peering over the platform edge waiting anxiously for station assistant Mouldy to retrieve it. Just a one off placement for one amusing video with a few trains passing on the other track and one stopping with screeching brakes on the line where the ball lies. You built a stage ... use it to make films.

    Like the shiny but weathered look on the Grange. How much was she, if you don't mind me asking? Some interesting different shots too. Recently I've been trying out a mixed train - a passenger coach or two and a small freight train on the back. Really like the idea, it was used a lot on branchlines to save having two trains. Might be an idea for you.

      I think I paid about £7 for it! I traded in my West Country for it. I think they go for about £115 in online, it was £130 on my local model shop though.
      Yeah I’m sure they were very common, especially a short passenger train with a couple of vans of a milk wagon tacked on. Good suggestion!
