Will a mom driving to school with the kids or to the shops be flooring the car everywhere? A CVT does exactly what it says on the box. Under normal driving conditions it is silky smooth, fuel efficient, has a wide spread of ratios and is quiet when cruising. Is it a performance car? No. I have driven the Polo with the 1 litre petrol and DSG and it's an amazing package, but I don't want to own it once the maintenance plan runs out...

If I wanted performance I would take any one of my Audi RS 5 V8, Porsche Caymen S or Toyota GR Yaris out for a drive. But when we got to town, a dodgy area or shopping for stranegly shaped articles ( eg a pot plant ) we always take the Honda Fit. All four of the aforementioned have both features and flaws.
As to resale - I just recently traded in my Honda Jazz Sport for the Fit. I negotiated a trade in which was only R19k less than I paid for it so the total overall running costs are negligible. Furthermore the servicing costs are low & I wouldn't touch a daily runabout/workhorse with a small capacity engine which has a turbo. Same goes for a hybrid if you plan to keep it for more than 8 years and need to replace the batteries.
The Honda makes no claims to being a performance car. Check your average speed over a full urban journey and you will be lucky to have recorded an average travelling speed of higher the 55kph; which renders three of my cars almost immediately pointless in the city.
I have owned a number of VWs over the years and they were all characterised by above average running costs and very poor service from the franchised dealerships.
A CVT gearbox is fine for urban driving where most privately owned cars operate and is less likely to fail than a DSG; known in the trade as a 'Damn Stupid Gearbox' with an alarming record of requiring replacement/refurbishment above 100,000 ks . Good luck to anyone prepared to drive a 1,0 litre turbo charged car. It's working at 100% 24/7, is not particularly frugal if you have a heavy right food and is a R40k repair job if it fails.
Not much mention was made of the versatility of the FIT; where it leaves the Polo for dead.
This review missed the point. The Fit is more of an MPV than a hatch so does not really merit comparison. As such it is highly likely to deliver 300,000 ks of service which few VW products manage without major surgery.
For those complaining about the prices of all new cars - look no further than the government. The total tax component on a new car is 42% of its ticket price (source : Toyota). And the only benefit (sic) you are getting from buying a 'local' car is that all taxpayers subsidise the local motor industry's export programme and contribute towards skewing the price of vehicles locally.

Matt Watson of carwow reviewed the eHEV hybrid which would be the model of choice. it's actually an excellent car, superb Japanese build quality, super comfortable and practical, ridiculously fuel efficient. Very odd to hear of rattles in a Japanese built Honda. We were so impressed with the hybrid, we ordered one and take delivery this month, Luxe spec. As we in NZ get a clean car rebate, it brings the price down to almost that of the non hybrid, a no brainer really. And in terms of the Polo, didn't even consider it, trust Honda way over anything from vw.

Very well said! In S.A this car is very expensive and also VS the polo an odd value proposition. Honda in S.A making a few mistakes tbh.

I'm confused by this review. For starters, the engine is basically a carry over from the previous model. The way the presenter complains, you'll swear the last model was some high powered machine, and this new one went backwards in terms of its available power. Not to mention, the engine's power output is class-competitive when you compare it to the engines in rivals like Mazda 2, Kia Rio/Sonet, Nissan Magnite, Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Venue etc. The hybrid model is the one to get if you want increased performance. And I don't know why it was relevant to mention having viewers who can afford a Ranger Rover... no one buying a Range Rover is even going to blow their nose on a Honda of any kind, let alone a Fit. As for the CVT, everyone knows they are used by manufacturers for fuel economy. Using a torque converter auto will reduce economy, and DCT's are notoriously jerky and lack longevity. I've driven the previous gen FIt and find the performance perfectly acceptable. 0-100 in under 9 seconds with this same engine/CVT combination is frankly very good, and a lot quicker than many rivals which have 10-14 second acceleration times. As for passing, perhaps the presenter is not very knowledgeable about CVTs, but to get max acceleration from one, you have to rapidly pump the accelerator pedal twice fully (the foot equivalent of using your finger to double click on a computer), and hold after the second pump. That tells the software that you want maximum acceleration, because even if you mash the accelerator all the way down once, it will still try to balance giving you acceleration but also fuel economy. Every CVT I've driven is programmed that way, going as far back to a 2001 Mitsubishi Lancer which I used to own.

Such an amazing video buddy. It's like u spoke directly to me ....there isn't an alternative for below R400k other than a VW (brand new) . Quality build and a dam good revving engine mating to a proper dsg gearbox. I wont even look at a Korean product so let's not go there. Thanks man.

I enjoyed the video and do find it strange that you clearly state that you not only know your viewers / audience but you even know what sort of cars they drive and or choose to buy. With that being said why bother reviewing a car that you know they would not bother with? You even mentioned in the beginning of your review that its mostly the elder members of your family that have or had Honda Jazzes. Stop wasting your time and go review cars your viewers want to see you in and if I'm being honest go put yourself in car you yourself want to be in. Otherwise keep up the good work

In Europe the Honda Jazz is only available in hybrid, fuel consumption in my Honda jazz Crosstar hybrid 122 hp 2024 is 3.4 /4.6 l. 100 km.mention the 10 ! Build-in airbags.this is uniek in this class.this jazz is more roomy than my brothers new Toyota Yaris Cross hybrid 2024 with the 3 cil.engin.the Toyota is more loud noise in the cabin.they have both an E-cvt ,no belt cvt.when driving using the electro motors in 80% of the driving.i prefer the Honda Jazz hybrid for normal day drive.

There has not been much improvement from my car till the current model so there is absolutely no reason whatsoever for it to cost as much as it does. Absolutely shocking behavior from honda

Smaller, cheaper to make, lighter (about 10kg more than the manual when an auto would be like plus 50kg. Smoother. Better fuel economy. Often faster than the auto equivalent too.
From a cost/engineering standpoint it just makes Sense. Especially considering most buyers for these vehicles will never know the difference.

A CVT can be frustrating at full throttle, but in normal operating range it's fine. From an engineering point of view, it's the perfect gearbox on paper. A normal auto has significant losses with the torque converter, this robs the small non turbo engine of power and increases fuel consumption. However, I understand that it is not for everyone.
