Hi Lisa. Beginner here and slowly working my way through the first three lessons. I love your pacing and the breaks in your vids so I can jump back and review a section (again and again!) Thanks!

Loved using the thumb on the first down strum. I came across this idea a few months ago but because it wasn't done at this speed, I very quickly gave up. But I think I will be much more confident now to try it again. I am so pleased I have begun the course again.

I hear you. I am constantly working on improving. The biggest tip I can offer is keep it fun. Take breaks. Creativity and focus tend to wax and wane, and you just need to go with the flow.

Your a hoot Lisa, love your style. Your going slow enough for us beginners, but not so slow that it becomes boreing. Thank for being here.

A great song and a tutorial! I appreciate that this is only the third song, very simple and easy to follow but not childish. It is a real, proper song that a beginner can actually keep in their "repertoire" (unlike old mac Donald and similar). I really loved your first song (Simple gifts) although I'm not religious but that song is meaningful and enjoyed it.
I'm not a native English speaker and I like learning traditional/classic English songs.
Also, finally a tutorial with a simple strumming pattern. It is something new and it adds an extra element to the song but it is actually "doable" for a complete beginner! I learnt something new but I absolutely didn't get frustrated!
Looking forward to learning from you!

I am glad you are enjoying these songs. I have hunted (and continue to hunt) for ideal teaching songs. Of course ideal for one person, might not be for the next. Thanks for communicating with me the progress you are making.

I’m still practicing the first 3 songs, feel like I’m moving like a snail. I work 3-4days a week, 12 hour days in the medical field, at an urgent care clinic. It can be stressful however, playing my Ukulele helps.
I have two cats and when I start playing my ukulele they both come to the living room with me and both fall asleep. Not sure if it’s out of boredom or I just do a good job? Lol thank you so much I almost feel as if you’re in the living room with me being extremely patient and encouraging me not to give up. I’m 60 years old and thought it would be fun to learn something new. Thanks again

The ukulele can be a wonderful stress reliever. My mother-in-law was frequently in the ER. I would bring my ukulele and softly play and hum. Nurses, doctors, staff and patients and family members would thank me. My dog can't stand it when I play my flute, but she loves the ukulele. I think your cats are groovin' on it. Glad I could help on your ukulele journey. Take it at a nice deliberate pace. Get to about 80-85% accurracy, and then gently nudge your brain into something new. You'll have a lifetime to work on C and G7 with down strums. Thanks for leaving a comment.

I debated about doing a third song for this session...another easy song...I have two under my belt....yada yada yada....The thumb/strums were amazing...thanks...that is what I need to understand coordinating what my left and right hands are doing...there is only one strum pattern that is more basic but what a jump to this one...It is very effective for teaching and learning...I have something very tangible to work on when I pick up the uke and feel like a short strum. I am glad I am here.

Hi Lisa. I just found your lessons tonight and I love the way you're teaching. For Christmas I gave myself a beautiful candy apple red electric guitar. I've practiced for 3 months and am really having a hard time reaching the chords. The problem is I'm a sm woman who turned 77 this week and I have very small hands and terrible arthritis. I've had major surgery on my left hand/fingers which is why I just can't reach many guitar chords. Someone mentioned ukulele to me. So I bought a little Soprano ukulele🎻 for my Bday gift to myself from my wife. WOW!!! 🎉 🎆🎇🎆🎊 Best thing I've ever done. I've had it for a week now. I've picked up about 3 beginner songs already and I can actually reach most of the chords I need. it's 2:40 am now and I can't stop playing. I just love it 😍! What's so fun is that I can try different strums to the 4 or 5 chords I know and I'm making music. like I said, I'm addicted. I've downloaded your songs, etc and I'm learning so much. you take the time explaining things and that works so well. Thank you again Lisa, I definitely appreciate you. Susan 🎸🎶 🎼🎶🎷 🎸

Thanks for sharing your ukulele journey. I work with so many students and patrons who have gotten the "addiction" too. One of the best parts about playing ukulele is the community. If you ever want to jam online, I offer a weekly jam on Friday nights, and beginner's jams on the first and second Saturday of the month through my Patreon community. We have so much fun. Live jams are also a hoot!

Excellent lesson again Lisa. Bearing in mind once again I have had a couple of months break but amazed myself how quickly I got into this song (only 2 chords so not that difficult) even with the thumb on the first strum (must file my nails!). I am back in the UK now, so will be joining you tonight. Very much looking forward to the Christmas songs.

Wow! I finally found the teacher I needed. I've been trying to teach myself for a few years. I go at it in spurts now and then but I get frustrated when I can't follow along with the ukulele teachers on RUclips because they tend to assume a lot of things along the way.
I really like the way you teach, Lisa, because a) you go slow and b) you really do know how to break it down into little steps to set us up for success!
I decided to start with your First 10 Songs series because I have taught myself the basics but I thought I'd try one more teacher to see if I could do it. I've been teaching myself by ear how to play melodies of songs but I've always had trouble strumming. I am rather self conscious about singing but I hope once I gain confidence in playing and strumming, I'll be able to sing, too and I'll be confident enough to join in with my guitar playing friends around the campfire, this summer.
As I have been following this series, I have found that I can at least, hum along with the song and sometimes I can sing along, too and strum at the same time. I haven't been able to do that while strumming before. And I like that you don't just try to teach a really complicated strum, right off the bat.
Oh, and I like the strum/chord boxes! I've never seen anyone else do that!
I haven't played it in a few weeks and I just want to keep going lesson after lesson but my fingers are feeling it now! I guess I lost my calluses. Ouch!
