The 10gbit upgrade is great value. I have no idea why anyone would think it pushes the cost to the point where you should order a much more expensive laptop with a max chip that doesn’t even come with an Ethernet port.
7:10 Ethernet port. I don't get, it if you need a 10 GBit Ethernet so much that it is a 'deal breaker' for you, why just don't click on that upgrade. costs only $100. This is the cheapest upgrade of all available, and the only one that does not have Apple Tax on it. ..roughly what a typical computer factory would charge for such a thing.
I upgraded from Base M1 Mac Mini to the unbinned 14/20 M4 Pro Mac Mini. What a huge difference in performance! I left all of the other boxes for Ram, SSD, and Ethernet unchecked. For extra storage, I have a Crucial 4TB TB4 external SSD that gets swapped between my Mac Mini and M4 iPad Pro.
07:03 You can as an option configure the Mac mini M4 Pro with 10 Gigabit ethernet. And if you double the RAM (going from 24 to 48GB) to make it more like a "mini Mac Studio", then… it is just $100 less than the current Mac Studio M2 Max, which is slower, as you've shown - BUT… for power users, since the price difference is so thin, I'd just wait for the Mac Studio M4 Max. Otherwise, the "base" Mac mini M4 Pro (no options) is a great deal.
The ram speed itself is what he’s referring too. * fyi Doubling up the m4 ram, 10g nic makes it actually a few hundred more than the m2 studio. But the m4 mini pro sounds phenomenal nonetheless
Agreed. The quick screenshot he shows of the Mac Store is actually of a MacBook Pro (notice the bit about Display options). Macbooks are great, but they're not appropriate for an office setting with an external display, so he shouldn't really even be referencing that. Seriously, if 10Gb is such a big deal, spend the extra $100 on the computer you need, don't jump over to a completely different line with an internal display you will never use and less connectability. When compared to the Mac Studio, the Mini is just better, as he's seeing all around. So again, just get the 10Gb on the Mini. I don't understand why this is so complicated.
@@fluxcapacitor my bad . You can get the studio in refurb store for $1700 so that price was logged in m head. You’re correct , as that’s apples-apples comparison

Dude, you mentioned throttling, showed us or made us hear loud fans kicking in, and went on to conclude: "other than throttling". By how much does thermal throttling affect performance on a day-to-day use?. I'm not trying to be an a-hole, but genuinely curious!!
That’s a great question, and it’s my fault because i did actually talk about whether or not it’ll be an issue for day to day usage but then decided to cut that part out cuz i thought that might bore people. But basically I've been using this Mac mini for the past 3 weeks or so and l've used it to edit this video, 2 shorts, made the thumbnail for this video, a little bit of after effects, and also browsing, watching videos and stuff like that, and I never heard the fan. So assuming the fan only gets loud when the system is starting to get too hot/throttle, then for everything I’ve done on it so far it didn’t throttle since I didn’t hear the fan. The cinebench test was an extreme scenario (100% cpu usage). So as long as your normal workflow isn’t pushing this Mac to its limits you should be fine. Hope this helps :)
@@imSpixel A lot of people are going to be pushing any computer they have to their limits, so that's really important. It's a big deal to me, and a big deal to many many people. If you have a chance, I'd explore that a bit more deeply and share your findings. Thanks!
The Ryzen 1950x Threadripper is quite fast but is a 2017 chip that can not be upgraded to run Windows 11. I have one. You are correct a PC can not be built for less than a Macmini and be competitively fast. Also the AMD chips do not decode H264 10 bit 4.2.2, only Apple and Intel have those decoders.
Hey. So from your video I understand that the Mac Studio is better for video editing in 4k . More ram, no fans noise. Interesting to see in realtime editing the difference. And what is your opinion about Mac mini m4 base model for editing 4k video. Thanks
@ I have a m1 mini and it works fine with 4k 4.2.0 but for 4.2.2 wiht color grading I think to buy a mini m4 base model. I work just in premiere pro and for me it’s very important to understand if make sense to upgrade to m4 or to M1 Max
This Mac mini is pretty good for 4K video editing as well, 90% of this video was filmed on a Sony A7iv (10bit 422 H.264) and it handled everything fairly well. In terms of realtime editing, previewing the timeline and stuff, it’s great but not perfect, lags a little initially when there are over 3 or 4 layers with color grading, but that’s more or less the same as my Mac Studio. And I edited in full resolution in premiere not 1/2 or 1/4. In terms of the fan, I've been using this Mac mini for the past 3 weeks or so and l've used it to edit this video, 2 shorts, made the thumbnail for this video, and also used a little bit of after effects, and I never heard the fan. So its really not an issue as long as your not pushing it to its limits. And about the base model I can’t say much since I haven’t used it myself
