For those watching this without context: Vish brought up a conversation he'd had with Zain recently before this set started where Zain informs him his name is actually pronounced "Zaan" (the Pakistani pronunciation), and that we've been saying the anglicized version this whole time. He says that he's fine with either pronunciation at this point, but that he does prefer the correct way. Please be respectful in the comments :)
shine 2022 was absolutely legendary, axe overcoming his slump as a solo pika main, zain ending axe's 9 year win streak on marth, jmook showing that a solo sheik main can beat hbox and puff, and ofc zain beating jmook after sheiks giving him problems in recent tourneys. melee is sick!!! :D

We always have the "dual Sheik mains" since long time but never solo. - Isai with Falcon and Sheik - Captain Jack with Sheik and Dr.Mario - KDJ with Sheik and Fox - M2K with Sheik and Marth (and maybe Fox) - Plup with Sheik and Fox - Leffen with Sheik and Fox - Recipherus was a solo main Sheik but he only won the GO tournaments back on the 2002-2003 time looool
@@jogbearcool8594 Amsah have the same Recipherus treatment , since he did not win in North America (cuz all super majors are there) he only won like "European Majors".
@@jogbearcool8594 The tourney that Amsah won has no Top 10 players, it had Armada, but at that point, Armada was not #1 in his region, it also had Captain Jack who was also not #1, Amsah is the only player who was maybe Top 10, and only one Top 10 player in a tourney should not count as a major
75 years after the release of melee and it is still amazing how much of a difference there is between the top few and the rest of the pack. It is unreal how good these two are right now.
It's crazy that Zain considers Puff a comfort matchup. It was so cool to see Zain gradually get closer to beating Hbox until winning Shine 2018, then have so many heartbreaker game 5 losses to him until finally turning the corner at Genesis 7.
I'm glad they clarified it's pronounced like 'Zan' at the end. I had no idea and thought my ears were hearing them wrong. Aside from that, it looked like Zain felt so much pressure that he was going for so many risk off the ledge options. I loved to see it thought. This was beautiful Melee!
the marth sheik grand finals matchup between zain and jmook in particular brings me back to the excitement i felt when i first started watching melee during the peak of mango v armada and mango v leffen ... shit is exhilarating. the mind games are incredible, and the pacing is insane. love to see it in 2022 for the greatest game of all time
The 3 people that beat Zain : - Hungrybox kill his momentum on SmashCon , have Hbox not clutch that set , we would see an amazing Zain run to take the tourney - Jmook double eliminated him on GOML and doing a reverse 3-0 on both sets. Have Zain not got reverse 3-0 twice , he would have won it - Axe was always Zain´s bracket demon. With a record of 8-0 and Axe not losing to a Marth since 2013 , so almost a decade not losing to Marth In just this Top 8 , Zain pretty much got all the people that beat him and he claim it back. Slug and Amsa are next on his list !!!!
@@fupalover The problem on those two are their attendance currently. Leffen is taking a break of travelling after the intense Guilty gear Strive grind he did to get EVO Top 3 , and iBDW is recovering from injury. Maybe later on the year we willl have it
At 13:07, Jmook's SDI on the second dair was almost good enough to land on stage. If you go frame by frame it looks like it was just pixels away. Probably wouldn't have changed the outcome of the game but I thought I'd mention it since it was hella impressive.
This tourney was STACKED, it makes me (and I imagine all of you beautiful people out there too) so excited for the future of melee. Can’t wait for the day where a tourney has everyone here plus Plup, Leffen, N0ne, IBDW, aMSa, and I’m sure I’m missing others
@@beauhendershot7911 lol yeah, no doubt. I'm hoping for a Wizzy/Jmook set because we NEED to see that set and a Plup/Leffen set because it's such a travesty they haven't played in over 3 years! Super hoping Big House delivers.
Probably, yeah!! It's unfortunate how hard it is to judge for older players, since in the early days it really was just a single breakout out of unknown-ness and then permanence near/at the top of the scene. We know when the Gods started playing and their first come-ups, but it's really hard to say the delta in skill for them over those first few months
Did you see how this man got bodied and then beat axe? This man might have always been good, but the speed at which he is beating players like axe and hbox, particularly hard matchups to get good at considering the scarcity of players at the top, is incredibly impressive!
And thus, the 2022 Summer of Smash has come to an end and wow, it went out with a bang. Every Top 8/12 has been so exciting and Shine was no exception. It really does seem like anyone can come out of the woodwork with enough practice and make a surprising upset or two. Here's to the rest of 2022 as well as wherever Melee goes in the years to come. Long live this game.
I think JMook is the player with the highest jump in placement and rank in melee history (for now) which is rare. Zain was also in that category kind of. Cus most players grind and slowly go up rank. While Jmook jumped ranks. So seeing Jmook consistently placing high after that one break out tourney is crazy rare.
Holy moly what an unbelievable set!! I don't know if I've ever seen either of them play so aggressive before. Zain was doing some pretty wild offstage stuff that I felt was maybe too risky but what do I know, it worked for him. Incredible Melee
so epic im literally preparing to watch. i cleaned my glasses. I have no clue who wins....i lean towards zain for championship mentality vibes....but i want jmook to win for the epicness. either way......this is a melee set im beyond hype to watch. so fucking epic.
If I can offer some constructive criticism: I really dig the hype man, but there needs to be a mic to capture the crowd noise to back him up and make it feel more impactful and have like a WWE vibe. Edit: Also, I wish the players would bring more heat when they walk onstage, but I get why most of them don't, it takes special personality to really sell that. Mekk got it tho.
I'm pretty sure Zain can turn around down smash for a chance to kill off the top after the downthrow at 8:52 (there were some other opportunities as well on dreamland)
