I have never understood why there cannot be legal recordings of stage productions. The only one I have ever seen was “Barnum,” starring Michael Crawford. What a blessing for those who love theatre but have neither the means nor opportunity to attend, if legal films could be made and distributed. In the case of this depiction of Les Miz, just imagine if it could have been filmed with proper lighting.

1:55:30 I watched this for the first time with this video of the show and might I just say that this made my jaw literally drop to the floor. The kid who played Gavroche was terrifyingly believable. The stage choice with none of the audience being able to see the kid and just hearing those cries and quivers from a poor little kid is as painful as it gets. Not being able to see Gavroche is arguably the best choice I’ve seen, I looked at other productions and most others have been acted out but it being this way leaves it to the interpretation from the audience on how he did it. Whoever played Gavroche did such a fantastic job on painting the picture for the audience though because wow I shiver everytime I think about it

I would agree, except the version i saw was him standing proudly on top of the barricade, holding the ammo. Suddenly, BANG - and he collapses. Silence Al around as he slowly falls off the barricade. The rest is how it was in this rendition

41:48 Why did they cut some lines out of Cosset's song? There were lines which said, "There is a room that's full of toys, There are a hundred girls and boys, Nobody shouts or talks too loud, Not in my Castle on a Cloud". Little Cosset doesn't have a big role, it's a shame to reduce her role even further by removing those lines from the song. Literally saving just a minute from the run-time of the musical. I don't understand their decision.

My first exposure to Les Miserables was the film starring Hugh Jackman and Russel Crowe, which I watched in 2019 at a friend's suggestion, and I thought it was incredible. Watching a stage production, however -- and after having seen a breakdown of why the music in the film is actually pretty bad -- the difference is night and bloody day! I will certainly be coming back to this whenever I want to watch Les Mis again.

Add to that that JOJ was alternating with AB in the staged concert. I don't get why, if you have the BEST JVJ ever, you release the BluRay with "the other guy" (which is an above average JVJ, but not even in the top 5). It looks that CM won't ever gift us with a properly filmed production with JOJ leading, and we will have to give thanks that he was at least in the 25th Anniversary live CD. The fact that JOJ wasn't the first (and only) choice for the 25th Anniversary concert is beyond my comprehension.

I have fallen in love with his voice since hearing his portrayal of Phantom and to my mind he's top 3 portraying him, and when I discovered this I was over the moon cos if he's that good at Phantom, JVJ must be a treat too and it is.. It's insane to me that he doesn't get more recognition for how well he portrays these roles and sings, not just sings.. there's few soloist's that can do both well and he does them phenomenally.. definitely DVD / BlueRay worthy... Having only seen the 10th anniversary concert before this, I had thought that Les Misérables always performed in front of fixed microphones. An odd concept, however good the music was. Seeing it performed with a stage and moving/acting performers makes it a whole other experience haha

Even with his back to the audience in Red & Black, Enjolras is right where one of the spotlights comes in… at around 1:10:40 Grantaire is RIGHT NEXT to him but he’s still never fully in the light. “No one loves the light like the blind man”
