Wonderful, deeply moving "in memorium" music beautifully played by the WPO. It is in the great tradition of lamentations, farewells, and "swansongs" ever created by humans to express our profound sense of sorrow. The beginning English horn line is reminiscent of Sibelius's "Swan of Tuonela" and the ending notes from the harp remind me of the ending of the "Adagietto" in Mahler's 5th Symphony. Thank you, musicians of the WPO, for this soul-searching performance.
So lovely. You have taught me so much about great Polish composers. Performances like this are why I frequent FN's RUclips channel, particularly in these times of horror and sadness. I watch often and have come to recognize so many faces that I fancy I think of them as acquaintances, all highly admired. Brawo Filharmonia Narodowa. Brawo Polska!
Beautiful song, orquestation, totally sensitive and inspiring of that magical bird "the swan" (english horn) that captivated some of the great composers in a magical way, Tchaikovsky, Saint Saens, Sibelius and now this musical jewel of this contemporary composer Arvo Part. A great-deserved tribute to the great Penderecki, I just have in my hands a CD recording that I bought in Warsaw in the 1989, this material consistes of the following works, ST LUKE'S PASSION, THRENODY POLIMORPHY, STRING QUARTET, PSALMS OF DAVID AND DIMENSION OF TIME AND SILENCE , at that time for 150000 z.t . Peace in the grave of who I consider one of the great Polish composers of the 20th century.
Simply stunning!
