  • Lancaster is located 70 miles (110 km) north (via I-5) of downtown Los Angeles in the Antelope Valley. The area became known as the Antelope Valley because of the immense herds of antelopes. Approximately 60,000 antelopes roamed the Antelope Valley until the herds were reduced by severe winters in the late 1800s and by hunters.
The population of Lancaster has grown from 37,000 at the time of its incorporation in 1977 to over 171,105 as of 2023. The area is known as the Antelope Valley, was originally home to the Paiute Indians.
    Things to do in Lancaster:
    - See the Antelope Valley California poppy reserve
    - Hike the trails at Prime Desert Woodland Preserve
    - Explore the Museum of Art & History
    - Climb Saddleback Butte
    - Catch a show at Lancaster Performing Arts Center
    - Go to The Western Hotel Museum
    - Visit the Antelope Valley Indian Museum State Historic Park
    - The Aerospace Walk of Honor
    - Walk around Joe Davies Heritage Airpark
    - Visit Sgt. Steve Owen Memorial Park
    - and many more...

The AV is a commuter town. You either work in aerospace or automotive, or you commute to edwards airforce base or down below. There isn't anything amazing out here. And it was cheap 10+ years ago, but you can't afford houses out here anymore. Aside from the cost of living being substantially lower, it has gone up so much that unless you are making 30+ an hour as single person, its still a waste of time.

I've lived here since 1956 and there's pros and cons wherever you go. It also has undergone areas of the city which could be considered growing pains. Crime is up as with all cities of our size it's a very Patriotic city we are close to Edwards AF base and Lockheed is close by. We love our Veterans. 🇺🇲👍

I have lived in the AV since 1998. Lived in 6 other states too. Every place has its positives and negatives.
    Positives of the AV
    1. Traffic is never really bad here. You can get where you want to go very easy here and there is always a place to park. Anyone complaining about traffic here is clueless.
    2. Plenty of decent places to eat.
    3. The nights are always nice. No mosquitoes. Temp drops to reasonable level.
    4. No humidity, no snow, no rain - I like snow and rain so that kinda sucks for me but it's certainly safer. Humidity sucks, I don't miss that.
    5. Solar works well, satellite TV and radio work well.
    6. You are 1.5 hours from LA, 3 hours from Vegas, 3 hours from San Diego, 1-2 hours from quite a few beaches.
    7. People are pretty nice here. I have only had a couple of run ins with idiots in 20 years. It's rare. If it's not rare then you live in the wrong part of town or go to shitty places. I don't.
    8. Decent medical care is available.
    9. It's NEVER cold here, NEVER. Its light jacket weather at the worst. I only use a hoodie and a leather coat. I no longer own an actual winter coat. Sure, you see idiots in parkas here but you also see idiots with flip flops, shorts and a winter coat on here because Californians are just confused and silly looking people.
    10. I travel this city all hours of the day and night and I never felt unsafe - ALL hours - but I'm not in alleys or shitty places either.
    11. There are a lot of nice quiet neighborhoods in the AV.
    12. If you have a nice yard with nice plants in a nice neighborhood, you can live very nice here. I do.
    Negatives of the AV
    1. The scenery is ugly. It's a very large kitty litter box, cats love it. The hills are brown. No trees. You see a lot of Antelope Valley Christmas Trees - that's a tumbleweed with plastic bags, trash and used condoms stuck to it. When you go up on a hill and look down on the AV it's a brown shitty place with humans, there is really nothing nice to see.
    2. Sunrise and sunset are boring. Without clouds, sunrise and sunset is nothing to look at. It literally looks the same every day.
    3. Dust, dust, dust - everywhere
    4. When it rains it stinks here, it literally smells like wet dog due to no plants and all dust. Other green places smell very nice after a rain. Not here. It smells like shit after a rain. Your patio will be covered with the dust and filth from your roof also.
    5. The sun will disintegrate plastic and wood - stone and metal work better here. Everything fades quickly and gets brittle. If you like it, keep it outta the sun.
    6. There are a few homeless people but they never seem to bother me or get in my way so I don't care - I'm not a hater - live and let live
    7. Crime is about the same as any other place I ever lived - per capita. There are about 300,000 people in Palmcaster so there are gonna be a few scumbags and there is gonna be some domestic violence. Anyone who says they lived in a city this big anywhere in the US that has no crime is completely full of shit. LA crime rates per capita are far greater than the AV. I had a sheriff tell me the AV was worse than LA but he used stupid math, if you look at human concentration per square mile versus crime rates the AV is MUCH lower than LA per capita.
    8. Shitty California drivers are everywhere here. Californians don't know what the phrase PASSING LANE means so every dork and their mother is holding up traffic by loitering in the passing lane, many of these idiots let their cars drive them with cruise control so it's like a mule train of morons. It's really not a freeway, you are always trapped by idiots.
    9. Californians have no sense of GTF outta the way. These people were not raised right and were not slapped enough as children, so they tend to stop in doorways and block entryways to check their phones, they block aisles in stores with their enormous fat asses and carts, they hold up lines writing checks or finding their credit card AFTER they wait in line for an hour playing with themselves, they block the passing lane on the freeway while they nork along with cruise control on, Californians are ALWAYS in the way. You can tell the people from outta state here in Cali, they tend to GTF outta the way like normal human beings. Californians are always in the way.
    10. The bars suck here. Most of them are horrible. You can't really pub crawl or go clubbing here because if you can even find 3 bars that are worth going in they are at least 5 miles apart and you probably cant find 3. In NY, NJ, Albuquerque, San Antonio, etc you can literally walk to at least 6 -10 great bars in square mile, not here. Also, these people drink crap, bud lite and bottom shelf. You can't find a decent Scotch or Bourbon selection. Just the cheap shit. Even the mixed drinks are unimaginative piss. Back east they had tons of great drinks.
    11. Socal sucks for water. The lakes are shitty filthy little ponds packed with nasty humans. The things they call rivers are just streams, dry most of the time except when they get their annual 1/4 inch of rain. You have to drive about 3 hours minimum to find any decent fresh water. Kernville is nice but that's a haul.

Have lived in the general AV my entire nearly 29 years of existence and can say this comment is essentially SPOT on. Winters can get a bit rough, maybe -20F at their worst. That being said, people HAVE frozen to death in the recent years, but overall with a good jacket and a beanie you're pretty well set.
We also are the town where a couple years ago, some dude trying to escape the cops in the middle of the night climbed onto the roof of our Winco, and fell into one of the pillars. Broke a leg and died of heat exhaustion because it was summer, nobody noticed til the pillar started smelling and leaking fluids INSIDE the Winco. So that's a thing.

Your point about cities with a population of 300k always having lots of crime is incorrect. I can point you to a city mere 2-2.5 hours away called Irvine. 309k residents, safest city in the country (for a large city), literally 1080x less likely to experience violent crime in Irvine than Palmcaster. You said there’s NO city that can do that right? 😉

    • @jcsinca3387
      @jcsinca3387 2 месяца назад

@@RayQ101 You took it out of context and you misquoted me. I did not say lots of crime and I did not say ALL cities, I said most of them with over 300K people have crime. Both of those FACTS are true so I would suggest you learn some MATH. MOST of the cities in AMERICA that have over 300K population have CRIME. Thats what I said and that is a FACT. Obviously, you have never been anywhere. And you are the liar if you are saying Irvine has NO CIME because even Irvine has CRIME so you are WRONG. I have lived in 8 states and have been to 27 of them. I have also lived in Europe for 7 years. The FACTS I stated are FACTS everywhere I have been. You pick ONE city with low crime rate in a state -CA- that has HUNDREDS of cities and 10% of the entire American population living in it and think because you have one example of a city with low crime that changes those FACTS I stated? Get a clue. MOST CITIES in CA with a population over 300K have crime and that is true ALL OVER AMERICA. When I was in North Dakota none of the cities had 100K and now some do, and guess what, they had crime then and they have crime now. All of the clueless people whine about Palmdale and Lancaster when in fact those cities are just normal. I'm not saying they are great, but they most certainly are not even close to the worst, they are normal. So stop whining about Palmcaster. If you like Irvine so much go live there and deal with their congested BS.

Been here my whole life, and its a love/hate relationship. Theres almost 0 traffic but sometimes its a 35 min drive across town just because of the distance. Also there is a lot of street racing that leads to crazy drivers on the freeway. The homelessness and crime have increased wildly in the last 15 years, but there are a lot of safe places to live in the Valley

This is based on the opinion of someone who has lived here for one year and I have to say that Lancaster is a lovely place to live. I haven't seen much crime going around my area as well as i have seen many great sightings that i really think people should experience. I started living here to attend avc but to also have a better house for my family. Wure it does get hot but that shouldn't ruin the fun there are plenty od things to do here for instance enjoy the moment with your family or friends. Play sports, organize hangouts, or even just relax in a small walk. Im just saying based on my personal experience Lancaster is a very nice place to live and for others who complain about there being nothing to do then make something happen organize events or even volunteer with certain programs.

"LOW AIR QUALITY"???? How about you go to another country where "thinking green" is the last thing they think about. Lancaster's air quality is amazing BECAUSE there's large areas of literally NOTHING and plants. in fact, if you think Lancaster has "low air quality" it's because Lancaster experiences desert like qualities.
"Low cost of living" yea ok, if you consider it being less than the cost of living to live in Los Angeles city sure. The cost of living in Lancaster is medium at best but no means "terrible" but it's not "low."

No Mother Nature losing its crap with floods, tsunamis, hurricanes and tornadoes. My 1 bed in a quiet neighborhood is under $1.2k/mo……. Unheard of in LA county. People are nice here with the occasional street cancer and freeloader U graduate. It’s good for those who want to build because land in AV can get cheap. Been here since November, so not very long. Never had any issues with weirdos, though you'll see them around. Like LA and basically everywhere that isn't a densely populated coastal metro area, you basically NEED a car to live, which will sort of limit your opportunities for interaction with the locale. I don't think it's particularly cheap. I'm only saving about $100/month versus living in the valley, but mileage may vary. I don't love it to be honest. The planning here is horrendous, and although I like my apartment, it's in the immediate vicinity of fast food, pawn shops, liquor stores and auto mechanics, so suffice it really lacks any kind of urban fabric you might get in say, Santa Clarita. I find there is really very little charm to it, and the topography is painfully bland. Although sometimes, when driving through less developed parts, it's sort of beautiful. There's a train that goes to LA but I've never taken it. Seems fun though. If you're looking something potentially more calm than city living, it's not terrible, though I'd look west of the 14 to avoid the more crime-impacted parts of town.

Lack of nightlight for sure. There are some spots but everything closes early. And the more east you go the more homeless, the more west you go, the more racist. But every city is going to have its thing. The lack of traffic though, is my favorite thing about this place

I stay out here and man it's the most boring high crime rate car accidents everyday dope central place there is. Lancaster is basically for old retired people and i mean no disrespect by that and the cost of living is hella high while they offer part time jobs, it's rare if you get a full time cuz the city is over populated or you might just get lucky. People say they're hiring then when you apply, then they say if you meet our requirements we'll give you a call. Some people actually tryna work but wouldn't recommend moving out here unless you like high crime and like to be bored. Back then Lancaster and Palmdale wasn't so bad but now & days. It's going to 💩
